Here is a 1960 Ford Ranchero with a 6 cylinder Ford engine and manual transmission with column shift. I bought this two and a half years ago with the intention of restoring it and driving it as my primary vehicle, but so far I haven't been able to get there from here....  I do drive it regularly around town for Home Depot or Lowe's runs and to go to work in inclement weather, so as you can see it's not a yard queen. It does need almost everything though. Before it can be driven safely on the highway it needs front end work and brake work, and of course it needs a little body work and a paint job. Even though it's a California vehicle and there isn't much in the way of rust, the floors are a different story, and they will need to be replaced as the previous owners put in patch panels here and there. To a New Englander or Mid-Westerner or other Rust-Belt dweller, this is pretty much a rust-free vehicle, but to a Southwesterner, you might say this does have a little rust..  :)   Full floors are readily available on ebay and various aftermarket suppliers, so there is no problem there. One of the previous owners apparently intended to put in a floor shifter, so he cut a hole in the hump area, but that's as far as he got. I taped it with duct tape as a temporary measure in order to drive it and not get dirt up through the hole.  The wheels are 14-inch which is a change from the originally-equipped 13 inch wheels from the factory. The chrome around the bed has been completely re-done and all of the pieces are perfect, so that is one area not needing attention. Interior needs complete restoration, and I bought all new dash knobs and glove box and a few other odds and ends, and they will all be included in the deal.  I also replaced the gas filler neck with the correct flexible filler neck connector made for this ranchero, and I also have a gallon of white paint to go along with the vehicle if you wish to paint it white.  It is a crappy red now, but the original color was a light seafoam green or something like that according to the code. You can see in the photos that there has been a bondo job somewhere in its past, specifically the doors and roof, and the bondo job is obviously bad and I won't try to gloss over it. The damage doesn't seem to be deep, so I think one of the previous owners just didn't have a clue as to what he was doing. Grind it out and start over! The car has been refitted with an alternator, so the old generator and regulator are gone. This motor runs exceptionally well and I have never ever had an issue with it. It starts up every time with no problem, even after sitting a week or two. When I first got the vehicle I immediately changed the oil and filter and all of the hoses and flushed it out, and cleaned up some of the wiring a bit, but that's about all I've done to it. Heater works and does not leak. Wiper motor works but I have to reach down and manually switch the wipers on at the motor since some genius took out the switch assembly. I have it and will include it of course. I have too many projects and at my age I have decided that this won't be one of them anymore.  I also have another 1960 Ranchero listed separately that I bought for a parts car, but it is almost complete and I am willing to let it go very cheap. Depending on how the auctions go, I am willing to do a 2 for 1 deal if you wish and I am primarily looking to clear these vehicles out to make more room. I am also willing to store these for a reasonable amount of time, so there is no immediate hurry to get them shipped out if you need time to work out shipping or pickup details. Shipping and/or pickup is entirely at the buyer's discretion, and I am available to help as needed. Driving this beyond the local area is not a good idea unless you have a huge set of you-know-whats, and even then I wouldn't recommend it.  In-person inspections are welcomed and recommended if possible. Ford Focus ST, Fiesta ST buyers to get free Octane Academy driving school

Thu, 01 Aug 2013

The Ford Focus ST and Fiesta ST have created plenty of excitement in the sport compact segment, and Ford is looking to make sure that owners are driving and enjoying their cars to the best of their abilities. As an added bonus for buying one of these sporty hatchbacks, Ford will provide a complimentary ST Octane Academy session to be held at the Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
Attendees will be responsible for travel and lodging, but Ford will provide the driving school free of charge. Included in this two-day trip, ST owners will get class instruction and driving instruction in prepped Focus ST and Fiesta ST models on the track and autocross course. Some karting action will also be involved as will a tour of Ken Block's Hoonigan Racing headquarters located nearby. If this doesn't sound like enough fun, there is also an optional day of activities that includes some more track time in a Mustang GT and off-road instruction in an F-150 SVT Raptor.
Ford told us that those who have already purchased a Focus ST or Fiesta ST will still be able to attend the performance driving school, but the press release, which is posted below, makes it sound like it applies to original owners only. Ford has yet to announce its schedule for the ST Octane Academy or prices for additional activities or guests.

Mustang pinball game will feature art by Ford GT designer

Fri, 13 Dec 2013

To celebrate 50 years of Mustang, Ford and Stern Pinball are collaborating on a new pinball machine that will feature the muscle car in all its glory, Polygon reports. Even better, Camilo Pardo, the guy who designed the Ford GT, will provide art for the table; Tanner Foust, Top Gear USA host and professional driver, will handle narrating duties; and a Sony Music soundtrack spanning five decades will provide the tunes.
"The Mustang is one of the most iconic, American cars ever made... What better way to celebrate 50 years of Mustang than with the launch of the Ford Mustang pinball game?" says Stern Pinball CEO Gary Stern.
Watch the promotional trailer for the upcoming Mustang pinball machine below, which will have to hold you over until pricing and availability are announced in early 2014.

Google's new Android Autos OS unveiled, will be in cars this year [w/video]

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Connected cars are coming en-masse. We know this much. How, though, remains something of an open question, especially as two of the world's largest tech companies are preparing to battle for control of your car's dashboard. On the one hand, we have Apple and its CarPlay system. And now, we know what Google has been working on with Auto Link.
Its new name is Android Auto, and yes, it's based off the Android architecture that is the primary challenger to Apple's iOS mobile operating system. Announced at Google's I/O conference today, Android Auto functions similarly to CarPlay - owners will need to plug their smartphones into their cars to access the full breadth of capability.
In Android Auto's case, that means a wealth of voice controls to limit distracted driving. Google's marquee apps will be available when the interface arrives in production models later this year, including Google Play Music, Google Maps and voice-activated texting and text playback. Meanwhile, developers will be able to begin designing custom apps for the new system via an upcoming software development kit.
