Here is a 1960 Ford Ranchero with a 6 cylinder Ford engine and manual transmission with column shift. I bought this two and a half years ago with the intention of restoring it and driving it as my primary vehicle, but so far I haven't been able to get there from here.... I do drive it regularly around town for Home Depot or Lowe's runs and to go to work in inclement weather, so as you can see it's not a yard queen. It does need almost everything though. Before it can be driven safely on the highway it needs front end work and brake work, and of course it needs a little body work and a paint job. Even though it's a California vehicle and there isn't much in the way of rust, the floors are a different story, and they will need to be replaced as the previous owners put in patch panels here and there. To a New Englander or Mid-Westerner or other Rust-Belt dweller, this is pretty much a rust-free vehicle, but to a Southwesterner, you might say this does have a little rust.. :) Full floors are readily available on ebay and various aftermarket suppliers, so there is no problem there. One of the previous owners apparently intended to put in a floor shifter, so he cut a hole in the hump area, but that's as far as he got. I taped it with duct tape as a temporary measure in order to drive it and not get dirt up through the hole. The wheels are 14-inch which is a change from the originally-equipped 13 inch wheels from the factory. The chrome around the bed has been completely re-done and all of the pieces are perfect, so that is one area not needing attention. Interior needs complete restoration, and I bought all new dash knobs and glove box and a few other odds and ends, and they will all be included in the deal. I also replaced the gas filler neck with the correct flexible filler neck connector made for this ranchero, and I also have a gallon of white paint to go along with the vehicle if you wish to paint it white. It is a crappy red now, but the original color was a light seafoam green or something like that according to the code. You can see in the photos that there has been a bondo job somewhere in its past, specifically the doors and roof, and the bondo job is obviously bad and I won't try to gloss over it. The damage doesn't seem to be deep, so I think one of the previous owners just didn't have a clue as to what he was doing. Grind it out and start over! The car has been refitted with an alternator, so the old generator and regulator are gone. This motor runs exceptionally well and I have never ever had an issue with it. It starts up every time with no problem, even after sitting a week or two. When I first got the vehicle I immediately changed the oil and filter and all of the hoses and flushed it out, and cleaned up some of the wiring a bit, but that's about all I've done to it. Heater works and does not leak. Wiper motor works but I have to reach down and manually switch the wipers on at the motor since some genius took out the switch assembly. I have it and will include it of course. I have too many projects and at my age I have decided that this won't be one of them anymore. I also have another 1960 Ranchero listed separately that I bought for a parts car, but it is almost complete and I am willing to let it go very cheap. Depending on how the auctions go, I am willing to do a 2 for 1 deal if you wish and I am primarily looking to clear these vehicles out to make more room. I am also willing to store these for a reasonable amount of time, so there is no immediate hurry to get them shipped out if you need time to work out shipping or pickup details. Shipping and/or pickup is entirely at the buyer's discretion, and I am available to help as needed. Driving this beyond the local area is not a good idea unless you have a huge set of you-know-whats, and even then I wouldn't recommend it. In-person inspections are welcomed and recommended if possible. Questions?? Please ask!

China's auto sales continue to drop
Sat, Sep 12 2015The days of unending growth of carmakers in China look to be over, and some analysts are even forecasting a net drop in volume this year, The Detroit News reports. After falling numbers in June and July, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers tallied total sales, including trucks and buses, in August to 1.7 million, down 3 percent from 2014. There were some tiny specs of good news in China, but there's no turnaround in sight. Total vehicle sales from January to August are actually still up but only 2.6 percent. Like the rest of the world, SUVs are booming with numbers up 45.6 percent from the previous year. Honda managed a very impressive 50.7 percent gain on the strength of the CR-V and Vezel (the HR-V here), according to The Detroit News. Also, the country's domestic automakers, which generally offer less expensive products, posted a 2.5 percent growth in sales. The news continues to look bad for Detroit's automakers, though. Volume from General Motors dropped 4.8 percent in August, and Ford fell 3 percent in August. Both of them have invested significant amounts there in the past years. The vehicle industry in China grew last year, but there was burgeoning evidence of weakness. At the end of 2014, dealers there pushed back against huge inventories pushed by automakers. Even before the big drops began in June, GM saw the writing on the wall and started cutting prices. BMW responded to the slump by cutting back production to deal with the changing demand. Volkswagen Golf, Ford F-150 named 2015 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year
Mon, Jan 12 2015Congratulations, Volkswagen Golf/GTI and Ford F-150. You've just been named the 2015 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year, kicking off the first press day of the Detroit Auto Show. The Golf faced some seriously stiff competition from its runners-up, the Ford Mustang and Hyundai Genesis. But the Golf has been a highly awarded vehicle since its launch, including recently being named Motor Trend's Car of the Year. As for the Truck/Utility award, it wasn't immediately clear that the aluminum-bodied Ford F-150 would win the North American honor, topping the Chevrolet Colorado and Lincoln MKC. The Chevy, after all, has been widely praised since arriving this fall, including taking home MT's Truck of the Year award. In 2014, Chevrolet had a sweep of the NACTOY awards, with the Corvette Stingray and Silverado taking top honors. Here's a look at the 2015 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year voting breakdown. As you can see, it wasn't exactly neck and neck. Car of the Year Volkswagen Golf/GTI – 256 points Ford Mustang – 204 points Hyundai Genesis – 110 points Truck/Utility of the Year Ford F-150 – 297 points Chevrolet Colorado – 205 points Lincoln MKC – 68 points The winners were determined by the votes of 57 North American jurors who work in all forms of media – magazine, newspaper, television, online and radio, and their ballots were tabulated in secret by accounting firm Deloitte & Touche. Autoblog editors Sharon Carty and Chris Paukert are members of the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year jury. Editors’ Picks October 2022 | Electric trucks and some excellent SUVs
Wed, Nov 2 2022This month sees a bevy of totally new or totally redesigned cars gain Editors’ Pick status. Important EVs like the F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV quickly jump into the list, and they do so with authority, as all our editors love these trucks. The Range Rover is always a superb experience, and this generation proves to be no different. Plus, the new generation of Kia Sportage continues to surprise and impress. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in October that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 GMC Hummer EV The Four-Wheel-Steer system lets the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup m View 17 Photos Quick take: The Hummer amazes as an electric supertruck with its wild acceleration, incredible off-road capability, luxuriousness and epic utility. It's far from a "green" eco-friendly vehicle, but that's not the point of this technological powerhouse. Score: 8.5 What it competes with: Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Raptor R, Ram 1500 TRX Pros: Stupid quick, tons of tech, off-road capability in spades Cons: Not efficient, annoying in tight spaces, price From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "I don't think I've driven a more ridiculous vehicle this year, but that's sort of the point with the Hummer. There's a great argument against this sort of EV in that it doesn't live up to being an efficient and planet-friendly vehicle, but hey, that's not the point. The Hummer EV is a supertruck and wild technological masterpiece for off-roading in the same way that a mid-engine supercar is to track performance. It's not meant to be the EV everybody drives to work and back (mostly because few can afford it), but it serves as a line in the sand of what can be done with electric off-road trucks. This pickup rules, and if you can afford one, you're going to love it." Senior Editor, Green John Beltz Snyder — "This Hummer revival is a showcase of technology and capability on the part of GM, making it an absolute blast to drive and a joy to use.
