This is a RAT ROD!!!! NOT A $45,000 hot rod!!! please bid with this in mind.... however, this truck is awesome!!!
THE TRUCK: It's a 1947 Ford for cab with a ton of mismatched parts. The 30's bed is not straight in any kind of way, and it has 50's rear fenders. I got the fenders with some kind of metal work already done to them, and they are misshapen a bit. All metal body is almost completely rust free, and in great condition other than tons of dings, dents and patches. When I say it's in good condition, I am talking about the thickness and quality of the metal and deterioration...not the actual shape. I will say again....this is a RAT ROD!!! THE DRIVELINE: The motor is a 327 sbc, of course I was told it has a cam... I can only go on what it sounds like and what I've been told. It sounds awesome! Open straight pipes, Edelbrock performance intake manifold, HEI distributor, 8mm accel wires, electric fan, Holley carb, new water pump, new thermostat, and new various gaskets and seals. Overall, the motor is in great condition. The transmission is a th350 which is a 3 speed automatic. It has a new filter and new pan gasket and rear seal. Drive shaft is new with new universals and balanced. The front frame is from a Ford Ranger, and I believe the rear end is also. The rear frame is hand fabricated and the passenger side rail is the air tank for the air ride. AIR RIDE: The bags in the front are ss5 slam specialties, the rear I think are Connitech (not sure). I used a Viair 400 compressor with manual paddle valves. This is a slow setup as far as going up and down, however it is a very reliable setup. Manual valves means no frozen valves in the winter, and no electric issues. Viair 400s are, in my mind, the best compressor ever made. I used 1/4 dot airline, once again, very basic yet dependable. The rear suspension is a 2 link with cantilever. Front and rear both have shocks and ride very nice. I pride myself on my bag setups, and have done hundreds of them. THE WHEELS: The wheels right now are 20's from a past project, the tires have good tread on them. If you want, we can work something out, I have a set of white walls that the truck looks good on... it just wasn't the look I was going for. THE INTERIOR: Very bare bones. Just a handmade steering wheel and shifter, and a leather bench seat from a Toyota Sienna. It has an oil gauge and a temperature gauge. That's it. The ignition is a 200amp breaker style key. I always use them because they are very dependable. The cab lights on top do work, and there is a switch on the dash for them. OVERALL: Once again...this is a RAT ROD!!!! The headlights and tail lights work, but no turn signals. I use hand signals. The motor sounds amazing and the tranny shifts well. Cruises around 55/60 very nicely. I've had it over 75, but I don't like seeing rpms over 3,000. Has glass in both windows that is in fair condition, and front and rear glass are there.... I might have the front windows replaced before sale. They are cracked on one side of the glass and are hazzy due to age. ABOUT ME: I own a small Hot Rod/Rat Rod shop called VILLAGE CUSTOMS. Feel free to look up any of my shops work from the past. I have done dozens and dozens of cars and trucks, some with features in magazines. It is very easy to find any of my work on YouTube or Google. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST TRY!!!!! I have done plenty of full custom builds, hundreds of bagged rides, and have had many many happy customers. Ford Sync 3 launches this summer on 2016 Escape, Fiesta [w/video]
Tue, Jun 2 2015The days of MyFord Touch are nearly over. Ford unveiled its brand-new Sync 3 infotainment system late last year, and has now announced that the first vehicles to receive this tech will be the 2016 Escape and Fiesta, this summer. The big improvements for Sync 3 include faster response time, better voice command integration, more logical controls, and a more intuitive interface. Those were all the key complaints of MyFord Touch – especially the response-time issue. Furthermore, future Sync 3 updates can be downloaded via WiFi. Sync 3 ditches the Microsoft-sourced software that powered MyFord Touch. Instead, Ford uses the Blackberry-owned QNX system. Ford will update its full range of vehicles in the near future, with complete integration by the end of the 2016 calendar year. Lincoln will get this tech, too, but with a slightly different look. Have a look at Sync 3 in the video below, and scroll down for Ford's official press blast. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. How Ford switched gears for the all-new F-150
Fri, Mar 6 2015Editor's Note: This story is authored by Julia Halewicz, a senior editor with AOL's Custom Solutions Group. She holds a Masters in Journalism from NYU and has spent her career as an editor of various newspapers, magazines and digital outlets. Last year on the Friday before Labor Day, the 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck came off the Dearborn assembly line for the last time. After the last seam was welded, the F-150 that had been so beloved by American consumers would begin the transition from traditional steel manufacturing to an aluminum body, and the second phase of Ford's 2007 blueprint for sustainability would begin. Jobs would be created, and Ford would deliver a stronger product to its consumers. It was a moment Ford would call the biggest in the company's 111-year history. Breaking The Mold For some, the change was almost unfathomable. How could a truck be made with aluminum, and why change what clearly was working very well for the company? "We have a saying at Ford that leaders lead," said Doug Scott, the company's truck group marketing manager. "This was an ideal product to make with aluminum-alloy, because lightweighting made so much sense for a truck, because the extent to which you could take weight out of a truck, you could add more value to the customer in terms of more towing, more payload, more durability, more efficiency – so again all this required us to be out in front further out in front that we normally would be to make sure that we would deliver on all those expectations." Ford began the planning process about five years before the first aluminum F-150 would come to market. The company had a lot of questions. What was customer acceptance of aluminum, could they build the truck, and could the truck be repaired out in the field? Finally, Ford needed to determine if there were enough materials available to support the demand for the F-Series. Aluminum vehicles aren't unusual, but had never been built on the scale of the F-150 – approximately one every minute. Ford created two prototypes to determine if the product would meet and exceed consumer expectations. Any change to the vehicle had to be justified in performance, safety and economy. An aluminum truck needed to be safer, lighter, have increased payload, haul more, and have improved fuel efficiency. After driving the prototypes, Ford knew it was ready to move forward. Once the aluminum truck was ready to build, the next challenge was quickly transforming the plant.
