1986 Mustang / Capri ASC McLaren Convertible

If you know anything about these cars, you already know how rare
they are and how few where built.  In 1986, only 245 where made
into 2 seater roadster convertibles basically.
Out of that, only 32 where built like the car below -car #227
Jet Black exterior
w/ Tan top and Tan Leather

the 1986 Model is one of the most sought after models to buy
old school 4 eyed look with first yr for real EFI motors that
stock, rocked the streets back in the day..even by todays standards
they are a blast to drive

Great color combo :  Black and Gold was probably
as successful of a color combo for Mercury/Ford as it was
for Pontiacs Trans Ams from 77-81. Its one of my favorites
still.
Odometer shows 66k on it, and its likely that is original miles.
back in the 90s, the car was actually more a show car that
went to stereo sound offs and was hardly ever used as a daily
driver, but mostly a 2nd fun weekend car.
Still rough in areas inside and out, but a true car person can
see thru it all and knows that it wouldnt take alot to bring it
back to its original glory.

This car has been in Tx & or Az its whole life so rust isnt or
will never be an issue during its restoration. Its does run and
drive, but sat here in the AZ Sun for the last 10 yrs. We cleaned
out the gas tank the best we could, installed a new HP Fuel pump
and a new battery, changed some fluids and it started right up.
Runs well too, but has a few 80s mod issues.

Its a fun driving car that gets alot of looks and compliments when
you are driving around or go to a car event, but its really not
pretty and perfect. The original black paint is really showing its
age.

DRIVETRAIN: The motor is interesting, not sure if the mods where done
at the factory (ASC) or after the car was sold new. It obviously has a
GT40 Intake manifold on it, you can see in the pics. You can also see
that the car has a MAF conversion. And its done very well, almost as if
it was done by the factory somewhere. It could have GT40 heads, not
sure how to tell with the valve covers on, but Im almost 100% sure
it has a mild cam in it, possibly a E or B303. Hence the reason for the
MAF conversion not normally on Mustangs this yr. Havent looked at
the Eeck IV ecu yet to see if it was modded, but the injectors are yellow
top which I believe to be stock 19#. MAF also looks like a stock size too.
That being said, you can hear the cam when the cars idling, and when its
cold, it does hunt a little and dies after a bit if you dont help it along.
Once it warms up and goes into closed loop, its not as bad.
Mustang owners can usually figure out these quirks right away
and with todays technology all these minor problems can be
solved easier,  but they dont keep me from driving the car around at all.
The factor AOD was built by Art Carr and works well with the engine
mods, making the car a fun driver. The convertor may have about a
2400 stall built in. Being under it today, I dont recall seeing Cats on
the H pipe. You can see the Flowmasters on it and it still retains its original
OEM stainless Ford tailpipes which I think are one of Fords better ideas :)
I havent checked the timing on it, but I did set the TPS sensor to .98
today for obvious reasons. Other then a minor tune up, dont really
think the car needs much else for the motor side of it.
Everyone knows these 5.0s are almost bullet proof.

INTERIOR: is showing its age. Az first took its toll on the original
convertible top and when the top started falling apart, rest of
the leather and parts of the interior got their share of damage.
The Recaros are restorable (and worth doing of course) But even
though it needs restoration, the main $ important stuff is still with
the car and not gone. IE: Recaros, 140 speedo, Momo steering wheel
and more. Manual convertible top frame works and functional
as are all the PW . The last owner had a full system in the car but all
thats left is the boxed area behind the front seats.
A good upholstery shop could restore the interior in a few days.
Side glass if I recall is all good, PW do work, but the glass is somewhat
loose in the door some, not sure if its because of worn our rollers
or what exactly, but with a little guidence they go up and down ok.
Although the interior is rough, 90% of all the part you need are there
making the restoration that much easier.
Luckily, restoration parts are available for these Fox Bodies and
even for the ASC cars too.

SUSPENSION: Lowered from the factory on what could be Motorsport
C springs, struts are older and not too bad. Tires are OLD AND BEAT
and needs them ASAP. Brakes and rest of the suspension feel okay
but the brakes make a weird noise under the dash near the brake
master, but they work fine. Has all 4 of the factory 15" ASC BBS Style
mesh gold rims, which are cleaning up well and would be easy to
restore.

BODY: When they built these cars they put Capri fenders on
Mustang bodies. The front just bolted on which was easy but
the rear factory wide body style fenders had to be blended in
from the factory. The original black paint is pretty bad and you
can see most of it in the pics below. But you dont have to worry
about any previous repairs/accidents hiding underneath
or any rust in the clean rust free AZ body. It does need the
ground effects replaced or repaired for a proper restoration.
Whats really cool is almost all the unique parts needed for
the car are either still on the car or still available.
Small area of factory bondo missing near the trunk from when they
originally did the conversion. You can tell though the work from
the factory was done to almost Ford Factory Specs.
Other then the obvious dings and dents, the front spoiler is missing
and the dent thats hard to see in the pics is on the pass side
behind the pass door, it was pushed in some.. Ft bumper cover
has a tear near the bottom too.

On Dec-14-13 at 22:28:59 PST, seller added the following information:

Some watchers and bidders are thinking this car originally came WHITE with Tan leather. IF thats IS the case, that makes this car even MORE RARE as they only made 12 of those. I thought those cars had white accents in their rims not gold. Ive thought about getting a Marti Report if I can to clarify exactly how it was sold new and some more production info about it.

Devils, Details and Weight Reduction
There are many things I could call this exercise. A party is not one of them.
I've spent three days crammed in the axle well of this 1989 Mustang with nothing to keep me company beyond a trouble light, a DeWalt drill on the very last of its legs and billion razor sharp, red hot slivers of metal with an affinity for my most sensitive of regions. My joints are raw from crawling around on the concrete. I'm half deaf from the shriek of the spot weld cutter and the boom of the cold chisel and hammer.

Ford Mustang GT350R adds a lot more than just a new letter [w/videos]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Okay Chevrolet, the ball is in your court. Ford served up one hell of a rebuttal to the track-focused Camaro Z/28, introducing the limited-production Mustang GT350R, complete with over 500 horsepower, over 400 pound-feet of torque and freaking carbon-fiber wheels. Carbon-fiber wheels. Seriously. It's because of those 19-inch hoops, along with some other changes, that Ford was able to slice 130 pounds from the already lightweight GT350 Track Pack. The wheels are responsible for a 13-pound reduction in unsprung weight per corner, while the removal of such superfluous things like the air conditioning, stereo, rear seats, trunk carpet, backup camera and tire inflator accounts for the rest of the weight reduction. Along with the lower weight, Ford has thoroughly reworked the GT350's aerodynamics, adding a simply monstrous rear wing and diffuser, along with vented wheel wells, a new hood vent that both extracts heat and reduces lift. Beside the aero aids, Ford has shod the carbon-fiber wheels in ultra-grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, just to guarantee the shiny side remains up. View 21 Photos Ford retained the standard GT350's 5.2-liter, flat-pane V8, Torsen limited-slip differential (complete with a 3.73 rear axle ratio), although as power figures haven't been published for the standard car, there's no way to know whether the GT350R received a power bump. What we do know, though, is that the GT350R will not be limited to the track. While that's certainly its natural habitat, owners will be able to register and drive this monster on public roads. Take a look at the official press release on the GT350R, available below. And also be sure to have a peek at both Ford's stock photos of the new car, as well as our full gallery of live images, direct from the Blue Oval's Detroit Auto Show press conference home at Joe Louis Arena. 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. 2019 Ram 1500 vs. 2018 Ford F-150: How they compare

Mon, Jan 15 2018

The full-size pickup truck market is seriously hot right now. Both Ram and Chevrolet have introduced completely redesigned trucks, the 2019 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Chevy Silverado, and as the companies slowly roll each one out, more and more information comes to light. We've put together this comparison post to help you keep track of all the features and specifications of each of these new models, along with the updated 2018 Ford F-150. Among the stats we'll take a look at are engines, power, fuel economy, trim levels, weight and more. Weight savings Both the 2019 Ram 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 have gone on a diet for the new model year, similar to the one the F-150 went on in 2015. The Silverado is the weight-loss leader, having shed 450 pounds when comparing quad-cab V8 models. The Ram 1500 lost 225 pounds compared to the current truck. Both trucks achieve their weight loss in part due to the use of aluminum parts. On the Silverado, the hood, doors, and tailgate are aluminum, while on the Ram, just the hood and tailgate are aluminum on the body. Compare that to the F-150, which uses aluminum for all exterior body panels for a total weight loss of up to 732 pounds, which makes the aluminum-intensive F-150 the weight-loss leader. View 160 Photos Engines and transmissions There's only a bit of overlap in powertrains on the Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado. Each has a V8 for the top engine. The Ram's is a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 making 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The Silverado will once again use a 6.2-liter V8 as its range topper with the same 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque as the current model. Both of these V8s boast some extra fuel saving technology. The Chevy's 6.2-liter (and some 5.3-liters) comes with the company's latest cylinder deactivation system that can shut off any or nearly all of the eight cylinders. The Ram's V8 boasts an optional 48-volt mild-hybrid system that, in addition to likely helping fuel economy, can provide up to 130 pound-feet of torque right off the line. With the Ram, fuel economy sees an improvement of 2 mpg in the city and combined ratings for 17 and 19 respectively. Highway fuel economy improves by 1 mpg to 23 with two-wheel drive and 22 with four-wheel drive. The Silverado's 6.2-liter V8 only improves city fuel economy by 1 mpg to 16, and actually loses 1 mpg on the highway. The new 5.3-liter engine with the fancy cylinder deactivation does see an improvement over the simpler version.
