1986 Mustang SVO Comp Prep description: This car was sold out of the Denver area a few years back, and has been driven occasionally since then. The VIN is 1FABP28T8GF113528.
The good: The car ran low 15's @ 91mph at a track that's at 5800' above sea level. It's a blast to cruise the canyons and surprising people with the BOV sound. It's a Comp Prep, so it's a 1 of 83 built in 86. All SVO-specific parts are there except the shift knob, and the damaged original stock hood has been replaced with a lightweight fiberglass SVO replica hood. The stock intercooler air inlet on the glass hood has not been cut out due to the use of the FMIC. I installed much nicer interior rear seat armrest panels and a trunk plastic from another fox body as well as better condition SVO tail light assemblies. Car has 123K miles and a clear Utah title.
The less good: The paint is weak. It's definitely got its fair share of wear and tear, but the body is straight and rust-free. The formerly cracking roof paint has been professionally (labor, and top quality materials) removed, prepped, re primed and painted to approximately match the road warrior appearance of the car. Aside from that the paint is intact, but faded. The front bumper has been torn and unprofessionally mended, but is mostly there. I can get a better shape bumper cover available that could be negotiated, as well as some nice random 225-50-16's. The driver's seat has the standard-issue torn bolster, but it's clean otherwise. I switched the seats so now it’s the passenger side that won’t stay up. The frame is broken and it leans back, a simple fix if you take the upholstery off and tack weld it. The dash pad is heavily cracked, no radio. The tires are barely fair if that.
Miscellaneous info: This is a good solid car. Stock rims, worn but running useable tires.
Modification list:
- Rebuilt stock head
- Kirban AFPR
- Walbro 255hp fuel pump
- Forced4 braided steel turbo oil feed line
- polished and powdercoated valve cover
- manual boost controller (Gillis valve), ~17psi right now
- Stinger intercooler piping, powdercoated silver
- Forge blowoff valve
- big NPR front mount intercooler
- 4.0L Explorer radiator
- Taurus electric fan with Bosch relay and manual switch
- Taurus 3G alternator
- adjustable clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster
- D9 V8-style direct-pull bellhousing and V8 clutch cable
- 2-gauge A-pillar gauge pod w/ Autometer electric oil pressure gauge and VDO boost/vac gauge
- black carpet and headliner
- professionally rolled rear fenders
Nearly everything enhances performance.
Rare, solid, sinister looking street fighter, SVO Comp Prep with tremendous upside potential. Very healthy running car, delivery possible, I’d drive this car anywhere.

10 automakers shack up in Detroit hotel to talk Takata airbags
Sun, Dec 14 2014Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort out a way to understand the technical issues involved. So far, faulty airbag inflators have been ruled the cause of five deaths and 50 injuries around the world, but neither Takata nor investigators understands exactly why the inflators are malfunctioning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently asked Takata to issue a national recall, Takata declined, citing a minuscule failure rate and the fact that it's still investigating the issue. Toyota and Honda then made an industry-wide appeal for "a coordinated, comprehensive testing program" that would pinpoint the problem inflators and get them replaced, and that's what the Detroit meeting was about. Numerous issues, however, will make this a long row to hoe: simply getting the parts to replace the nearly 20 million inflators in cars recalled around the world so far - even working with other suppliers - will take a years, but more importantly, no one knows if the replacement inflators currently being installed will suffer the same issue. Answers will hopefully come quickly with Takata, the ten automakers and NHTSA all independently investigating the problem.

FBI investigating recently fired Ford engineer for espionage
Fri, 25 Jul 2014Agents of the FBI are investigating a potential case of industrial espionage involving a recently fired Ford employee. The Dearborn, MI-based manufacturer had its world headquarters searched by FBI agents on July 11, and according to The Detroit News, had warrants to seize recording devices handed over to Ford by Sharon Leach, a now-former Ford engineer.
Leach, who had spent 17 years with the Blue Oval, was fired last month, after Ford Security relieved her of eight Sansa listening devices. The FBI got involved shortly after her dismissal, searching her home on June 20 and seizing some two dozen items, including computers, jump drives and financial records, according to warrants obtained by The News.
Ford has remained quiet on the matter, with spokeswoman Susan Krusel confirming that the automaker was working with the FBI as part of a "joint investigation," while declining to provide any additional details.
