This is a 1985 Saleen car # 85-0098 that is in great condition. I have owned this car for many years and has been garage kept the entire time.I have rarely driven the car as it as it was one of the many I had. I have since sold most of them. The car is in the condition that I purchased it in and other than changing the fluids. The car has not been modified mechanically and runs well. I had three 85 Saleens and have been selling them off one by one over the past two years and this one is the last. The reason Im selling is that I have finally realized that I no longer have the time nor the funds to keep up with everything in my life and I have had several health issues the last few years. As with any car this age it does need a few things all of which are minor. The headliner is starting to droop. The car has an upgraded Alpine CD Player and EQ with a Denon Amp and Bazzooka Sub but the speakers need to be replaced as they sound poor and I almost never turn on the stereo. I intended when I got the car to remove everything in the hatch area but as you can see that never happened. The A/C blows hot and needs to be recharged and the heater core is bypassed as it started to drip and I never bothered to replace it as the car was never driven in the winter or in bad weather. The carburator is weeping a bit as is the fuel pump very minor fixes I just dont have the time. These are the only issues that I can think of. The body is in very nice shape and looks great . The interior is in very nice shape and looks almost like new. The tires have very good tread on them and are Goodyear Eagles. The things that are not Saleen Correct are the shift knob the stereo and speakers. The headlight covers have been sprayed white and the body side moulding and some of the trim this has been professionally done and looks good. The window banner is not correct for an 85 but is any easy fix. Some will argue that the steering wheel is wrong and say it should be a wolf but others have said that it may be correct as when Saleen ran out of something and the cars had to be delivered they used what they had. The car also came from the factory with gold 15inch wheels which have been replaced with the 16inch wheels that are on it. This is also a rare factory sunroof car. When I purchased this car I confirmed with Liz at team Saleen that it is an authentic Saleen and is listed in the Saleen Book. The car is being sold as is where is with no warranty. You are welcome to come see the car or have someone look at it for you .Buyer is responsible for shipping. Thank You for looking at my Auction and good luck bidding.

Watch this week's Top Gear America used-car challenge
Sat, Sep 9 2017Top Gear America is back for the penultimate episode of the first season. Used car challenges were some of the highlights of the original UK edition. In our exclusive clip, Tom Ford, Antron Brown and William Fichtner run their $7,000 sports cars in a drag race. As expected, the trio chose very different cars for the challenge. Watch the video to see if a Subaru WRX's all-wheel drive can overcome a power deficit to beat a Ford Mustang and a Chevy Corvette. Brown and Fichtner also spend some time relaxing with an old Jeep Wagoneer. Like them, we're really hoping Jeep will bring back the Wagoneer nameplate. Brown also drives a Maserati Levante, proving that not all family cars need be boring. This week's guest star is actor, rapper and former host of Pimp My Ride, Xzibit. Top Gear America airs Sundays at 8 p.m. Eastern on BBC America. Related Video: Celebrities TV/Movies Chevrolet Ford Subaru Top Gear exclusive top gear america
Vile Gossip | Adventures in tire testing
Fri, Oct 13 2017Jean Jennings has been writing about cars for more than 30 years, after stints as a taxicab driver and as a mechanic in the Chrysler Proving Grounds Impact Lab. She was a staff writer at Car and Driver magazine, the first executive editor and former president and editor-in-chief of Automobile Magazine , the founder of the blog Jean Knows Cars and former automotive correspondent for Good Morning America . She has lifetime awards from both the Motor Press Guild and the New England Motor Press Association. This is her first column for Autoblog — look for more Vile Gossip in the future. I began writing at Car and Driver magazine back in its golden age in the 1970s, before I'd actually read it. I knew very little about cars. The only magazine I read religiously was Four Wheeler because I owned big trucks and liked to go off-roading with my Chrysler Proving Grounds friends. My vast 10 years of driving experience up to that point (high-speed dirt-road idiot, taxicab driver, Chrysler Proving Grounds test driver) had less bearing on my being hired at Car and Driver than the fact that the editor just wanted to rile up the all-male staff. He didn't need me for that. They were already in full dudgeon when I arrived. They'd just spent a chunk of time testing a stack of tires for their big tire-test issue, and the editor-in-chief was toe-to-toe with the technical editor over the rankings of the top 10 tires. It was loud, and it was angry. I had no idea that car magazines tested tires. Cab driving had led me to believe that airing up a tire and changing a flat was all you needed to know. I changed so many flats on that cab, I eventually wound up in front of a live audience on the " Oprah Winfrey Show" demonstrating my brilliance with a jack and a tire iron. My point, of course, is that tires are more controversial, and also more essential, than you'd think. My other point is that it's good to get worked up about the subject, but not quite so good to let yourself be seen, as I did, on my hands and knees with my ass up in the air on national TV. This is how I prefer to test a tire: First, pick a top brand. Then accept their invitation to try and beat the crap out of their tire. I chose Yokohama, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The big news for them was the GEOLANDER M/T G003!
Ringbrothers shows off Coyote-powered 1968 Mercury Cougar
Thu, Feb 25 2021We'll openly admit that not every SEMA build is our cup of tea. But this? A tastefully resto-modded 1968 Mercury Cougar with a 460-horsepower Ford Mustang V8? Yeah, this is right in our wheelhouse. Sadly, there was no in-pwerson SEMA show in 2020, so we missed out on gems like this one. SEMA or no SEMA, the aftermarket carries on, and co-owners Jim and Mike Ring of Ringbrothers (get it?) saw no reason to let their time and effort go to waste. When they're not building wild customs (see: 1,100-horsepower 1972 AMC Javelin AMX) or more subtle showcases (such as this Cougar or their 1971 K5 Chevy Blazer build from 2018), the folks at Ringbrothers crank out factory reproduction parts, whether for old-fashioned restoration or modification purposes. While '60s muscle cars are recurring build subjects for the two, the Cougar was the first of its kind they tackled. Keeping it in the family, Ringbrothers sourced a Ford 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 and a 10-Speed Automatic (lifted from an F-150 Raptor, incidentally) for the build. They didn't stop with the driveline, of course. The suspension was overhauled with a little help from DSE and a set of HRE Series C1 C103 Forged 3-Piece wheels were thrown over upgraded brakes. "We put our heart into each car we build, and this Cougar is no exception," Jim said. "The finished product is mild and classy, yet any enthusiast instantly knows it's not stock. I imagine this is what Mercury designers would have come up with if they were building the Cougar today." "While we couldn't bring the car to the SEMA Show, we hope it can be shown to the public soon," Mike said. "We had never done a Cougar before, so this was a fun build. I love working with new shapes and coming up with new ideas." There's plenty to appreciate about this Cougar apart from the mechanicals, too. The finish is Augusta Green Metallic (courtesy of BASF), which was a factory color in 1968. You may know it by another name: Highland Green. There are a few custom exterior touches, but they're quite subtle and styled to be period-correct. The interior was also restored and updated, and it's where you'll find the only thing we're not fond of: that big, fat truck shifter. Gearbox choices notwithstanding, it's a bit of an eyesore. But considering how gorgeous the rest is, we'll give it a pass. Related Video:
