Up for bids is this original 1969 ford mustang convertible. It is in need of a full restoration but is very buildable. It would be a good candidate for a shelby clone or just a good original convertible. It has seen better days but is still very buildable. It has its good points and bad points. It has a clear title. The car has factory disc brakes. It looks to be the original color still with the original interior. I will start with the good and end with the bad. I will start with the body. The body panels are all pretty much repairable. The rear quarters will need a little body work but are not rusted out and are repairable. The doors could be fixed. The passenger door has some rust on the bottom side of it. The fenders are okay. The hood is okay. I have the headlight buckets and they are okay. The top frame is okay. The windshield and trim arouond it are okay. It will need a new taillight panel. I have the grille and the front pieces. The trunk lid is okay. The rear frame rails are okay. The outer rockers are okay. The drivers frame rails are all good. What it needs. The floors have already been cut out and need replacing which is normal in a convertible. The inner rockers have some rust in them. They are not completely gone. The passenger one is worse than the drivers. They could be patched and used but that will be up to the buyer. The passenger torque box is crusty. The front rail under the battery box has a little place that will need some work. The trunk also has some places around where the gas tank goes on the passenger side. I took pics of everything. They are all easy fixes if you know how to weld. This car is still structurly sound. It does not sag like some convertibles do. It is still very buildable. The dash and all that stuff is still in it. I have the keys to it. The motor and transmission is still in it but I am sure it will need rebuilding. It has the style steel wheels on it. I have all the seats to it. The only other bad thing about it is the door glass and quarter glass are missing. The windshield is good but the door and quarter glasses are gone. I have a clear title to it. This is a project car as advertised but it very buildable. It rolls ans steers fine. It is easy to load on a trailer. If you have any other questions or need more info just let  me know. I can store it as long as needed but will require full payment within seven days of the end of auction. I will accept cash in person, bank wire transfer, or certified bank check as payment. The car will have to be picked up in Jonesboro Louisiana. Please ask all questions before bidding if you need to know something or are not sure of something.

As US exports top 2 million, is America becoming the world's source of cheap cars?

Mon, Feb 9 2015

North American auto production is booming with 2014 figures just shy of the of the 17.3-million vehicle record set in 2000. With more models being built on the continent, even more are being shipped overseas. Factories in the US exported 2.1 million cars last year – the highest number ever. About half of those went to Canada and Mexico, but more than ever have been heading to places like the Middle East and China. The upswing comes in part from from after-effects from the Great Recession, according to The Wall Street Journal. With a weak dollar and lower production costs after the financial crisis, building vehicles in the US was relatively cheaper and more competitive in the world. At the same time buyers around the world are going crazy for crossovers. According to the WSJ, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are already exporting the majority of their US production of these models overseas. Both automakers have also announced investments to expand production further here to send more vehicles abroad. Even Honda has been shipping more models out of the country than it imported here. There is a concern this international strength could start slowing because the dollar is strengthening against other currencies, though it's too early to know what the actual effect of this could be, according to the WSJ. "Of course, we closely watch currency exchange, but we don't make changes in production or allocation based on temporary fluctuations in the exchange rate," Ford North American boss Joe Hinrichs told the newspaper. Ford considering return to Le Mans with new EcoBoost LMP2

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

If you want to see a Ford racing prototype, you need look no further than the United SportsCar Championship, where the Blue Oval fields two Daytona Prototypes powered by an EcoBoost-branded 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. But according to the latest rumors, that may not be enough for Ford, which has as much brand to promote overseas as it does back home.
That could be why Racer magazine is reporting that Ford may be poised to return to Le Mans in the coming years. As we all know, Ford competed at Le Mans in the mid-through-late '60s, bringing home four consecutive overall wins with the legendary GT40. The new program would not, according to Racer, seek to relive those glory days, but would instead compete for class wins in the LMP2 category.
Currently, LMP2 regulations are somewhat split between the United SportsCar Championship in North America on the one hand and ACO-sanctioned series like the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and FIA World Endurance Championship on the other, but plans are underway for the regulations to be unified in time for the 2017 season. That could be when Ford is targeting its return, allowing it to compete on both sides of the Atlantic to maximize its exposure.

Is Tesla's next project an F-150 competitor? [w/poll]

Wed, 13 Nov 2013

What's the future look like for Tesla after it launches the Model X CUV and possibly a smaller, sub-Model S sedan? Would you believe a pickup truck? Yes, Tesla could be looking to use its EV know-how to take the fight to Ford and the F-150, based on comments made by company founder Elon Musk.
"If you're trying to replace the most gasoline miles driven, you have to look at what people are buying," Musk said during an impromptu Q&A session following a speech at Business Insider's Ignition conference. "[The F-150 is] the best selling car in America. If people are voting that's their car, then that's the car we have to deliver."
And while the idea of electric pickup may sound kind of absurd to some, Musk makes a very valid point - if Tesla's goal is to replace gas miles with electrical miles, it simply can't afford to ignore pickups.
