There were 422416 standard Code 65A  Mustang coupes built and 0nly 55000  CodeB  Luxury coupes, as presented here, built in 1966. This Mustang also has paint              code V Emberglow which was only offered in the 1966 model year.  It also is equipped with just about all the options offered in 66.

       The options include the following:

     *Power steering
     *Power drum brakes
*Dealer installed AC (currently not functioning)
*Very rare rally pack (includes tachometer & and clock)
     *Full lenght center console
     * 14X6 Style steel chrome wheels

*Interior Decore  Group, which includes Deluxe Pony seats,Special molded deluxe door panels, Wood grain steering wheel, Courtesy door lights, and pistol grip door          handles.

*Visibility Group, which includes inside day night rear view mirror, outside remote mirror, and 2 speed wipers.

The door tag also shows this car came equipped from the factory with the following:

       *Paint code V........ Emberglow paint
*Interior trim code 64....... Emberglow & Parchment
       *Engine code C.......289 V8 2V
*Transmission code 6........ C4 3 speed dual range automatic
       * rear axle code 6.......280:1

Even though it appears as such,  the C code 289 no longer resides under the hood. The factory engine has been upgraded to a 1993 Mustang 5.0 liter HO roller                       cam engine, however the 289 timing cover, water pump, pulleys, fuel pump, oil pan, intake manifold, and carburetor were retained. The larger 5.0 harmonic                       balancer and transmission  flex plate had to be used for balance reasons. Also chrome try Y headers and Ford Duro Spark ignition with new distributor were                       installed. So you  have the best of both worlds, better performance with the looks of the 289.

This Mustang has a very nice straight  rust free and bondo free body with nice fitting hood, doors, and trunk lid.   Very good quality, better than factory,  paint job is about 10 years old and still retains a very nice shine which looks better in person than pictures show. There are however some minor chips that have been touched up, and also some minor bubbling at the lower front corner of both doors, which I hear is very very common for these early Mustangs. The hood has a very minor dent in the center, but no broken paint. Center of the roof also has a paint cut about 1/2" long These blemishes are shown in the photos. None are objectionable enough, or even noticeable enough to detract from the general appearance of this beautiful Mustang. I also have about a half pint of correct color touch up paint that goes with car.

All chrome and bright metal trim is very good. The back bumper is new.

Side and back glass are original and very nice. Windshield appears to have been replaced.

All rubber seals and weather strip is nice and soft and much of it appears to have been replaced.

Tires are BFG 215/70X14",  Rears are new, fronts are 80-90%. Wheels are in good shape with some wearing of the chrome. Center caps are new.

Interior is fabulous with no tears, splits, or holes. Carpeting is new. The instrument panel, gages, and dash pad and door panels are very nice. Headliner and sun visors are nice with no staining or tears.  Has aftermarket radio with cassette.  Rally pack tachometer works, but reads high. Clock not working. Gas gage has some issues that I am trying to correct and might or might not work properly at auction end. Center console is very nice with new wood grain inserts.

Floors, frame rails and undercarriage are solid with no rust. Front suspension seems nice and tight. Exhaust system  is tight with no leaks.

The transmission, all components of the power steering system, and most components of the power brake system were all rebuilt or replaced very recently. Also the alternator, water pump, and starter recently replaced. Optima Red top battery installed in 6-11

This Mustang runs and drives as good as it looks. It is tight with no rattles.  The 5.0 liter engine provides good torque for responsive takeoffs. The transmission shifts smoothly with no hesitation, and passing gear works as it should. The odometer shows 61700 miles. No idea if this is original or not.

As pictures show the AC compressor is not currently installed, but the original compressor and all brackets will be included with the car. All other under hood AC components such as condenser coil, dryer, hoses, and wiring  are still installed on the car.

I have described this vehicle as I see it, and although unintentional I might have missed something in the description, so please ask specific questions you need answered. I do truly believe it is very nice for a 47 year old car and something anyone would be proud to own and drive to local shows, however it is being offered in AS IS condition with no warranty expressed or implied. It is the buyer's responsibility to read complete description, view all pictures, ask questions, have a third party inspection, or best of all make his or her personal inspection to confirm condition, BEFORE PLACING WINNING BID, ( NOT AFTER!!!!!)  Bidders with 0 feedbck must call Bill @ 502-839-8556 before placing a bid, or bid will be canceled.

ATTENTION TO ALL BIDDERS: Do not bid if you are not very serious and or do not have funds available following close of auction. I am using this site to sell this car, not play games.

Winning bidder must make a $500.00 NON REFUNDABLE  PAY PAL deposit within 48 hrs. of auction ending. The remaining balance of purchase price must be paid within 5 days from close of auction. Acceptable forms of payment include: Certified check, Bank wire transfer, or cash. IF paying by check, check must be cleared by all banks involved in processing of check before vehicle is released. Transferable title with both buyer and seller's names entered will be provided to buyer or shipper upon taking physical possession of vehicle.

If my reserve is not met, I might be willing to work something out with high bidder, if the bid is close enough to the reserve.

Ford, Samsung shack up to bring regen braking to non-hybrid models [w/video]

Mon, 09 Jun 2014

Ford must be desperate to get itself ready for the beach this summer because it is really trying to get into shape. Shortly after unveiling the Lightweight Concept that cut the weight of a Fusion down to that of a Fiesta, it's now the rest of the line's turn for improvement. The company is wrapping up a 10-year research project aimed at developing next-gen automotive batteries to improve efficiency.
Ford claims that 70 percent of its lineup will have stop/start tech by 2017. The key to this massive proliferation is its new dual-battery system that combines a lithium-ion battery with a lead-acid one and regenerative braking. The setup works by harvesting braking energy and converting it to electricity. When the vehicle stops, the engine shuts off, but the Li-ion battery has enough juice to keep the accessories running. The engine starts up again as drivers take their foot off the brake. The layout would mean less wasted gas while idling. It's already available on Ford hybrids and is somewhat similar to the i-Eloop capacitor-based system from Mazda.
The bigger challenge is tuning the regenerative braking right. While hybrid drivers may be a little more adventurous, when it comes to getting a hang of regen braking, conventional buyers might not be so open-minded. The systems have a tendency to be a little grabby at first and then taper off at very low speeds. Ford needs to make sure it's just right to avoid turning off buyers.

Junkyard Gem: 1971 Mercury Comet 2-Door Sedan

Sat, Sep 10 2022

When Ford introduced the original Maverick for the 1970 model year, Dearborn tradition required that a Mercury-badged version be created. That car ended up being the Comet, built from the 1971 through 1977 model years. Here's one of those first-year Comets in rough but recognizable condition, found in a Denver self-service yard not long ago. The Comet name had spent the 1960s affixed to the flanks of Mercurized Ford Falcons (1960-1965) and Fairlanes (1966-1969). Since the Maverick was the successor of the Falcon — sales of which went into an irrecoverable downward spiral once its sportier Mustang first cousin hit the streets — it made sense to move the Comet name over to the Mercury version. Nearly every American Mercury model ever sold was a U.S.-market Ford model with a different name and some gingerbread slapped on. Notable exceptions to this tradition include the 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar (mechanically based on the Contour but with a unique body) and the 1991-1994 Mercury Capri (an Australian-built mashup of Mazda components borrowed from the Ford Laser). The Comet was by far the cheapest Mercury model available in 1971, though it was considered more prestigious than its Maverick counterpart. The price tag on the '71 Comet two-door sedan started at $2,217 (about $16,505 in 2022 dollars), while the '71 Maverick two-door sedan cost $2,175 ($16,193 today). Meanwhile, AMC would sell you a new Hornet two-door sedan for one dollar less than a Maverick, Chevrolet had the Nova coupe for a dollar more than the Maverick, and Plymouth offered the Valiant Duster for $2,313 ($17,220 now). Toyota had a Maverick competitor as well that year, with the Corona at $2,150 for the sedan and $2,310 for the coupe. Having driven every one of the aforementioned models, I'd take the Duster if I went back in time and had to choose one (as a 1969 Corona owner, I'm not a fan of the 1971 facelift, though the Corona's build quality beats the Duster's). The build sticker on this car tells us that it was built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant (where Transits and F-150s are made today) and sold through the Los Angeles district sales office (there was a DSO in Denver, so it's a near-certainty that this car didn't start out in Colorado). The paint started out as Bright Blue Metallic (it's neither bright nor metallic 51 years down the road) and the interior was done up in Medium Blue Cloth & Vinyl.
