1965 Ford Mustang Fastback

Up for auction is a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback.  This mustang features a rebuilt 289, 4-speed, with power steering, power brakes and A/C.

This fastback received a complete restoration 5 years ago.

The metal work is as follows:  New front floor pans as well as a new cowl & firewall patch.  All patch work was welded both sides, ground and filed, resulting in a very nice finishNew left and right full quarters, new left and right door shells and new left and right fenders.  New wiring harness throughout the car (under-dash harness, engine harness, headlight harness and complete pigtail harness, etc.).  New back-up lights, headlights, tail and side marker lights.  New interior, head liner, and seats, etc.

All courtesy lights and guages work.  I prefer mechanical oil and temp guages so I have aftermarket oil and temp located in the console.  The electric harnesses are still in the engine bay and could easily be hooked up to respective sending units and used if preferred, as both electric oil and temp dash guages do work.

The engine (original to the car) was rebuilt, bored .30 over with all basic requirements that come with a rebuild, but not an overhaul.  The original transmission (c-4) was used for a boat anchor and replaced with a Borg Warner t-10 with new linkage and shifter.  The new flywheel was balanced with the engine rotating assembly at the time of the engine rebuild.  The original 8" rear end (2:78-1) was re-geared with new 3.25-1 open, which is more in line with the 4-speed transmission.  Drum brakes were replaced with power disc brakes from a late model mustang.  Front brakes are Granada power disc with re-designed new spindels to eliminate "bump-steer" which is common on 65-66 Granada swaps.  During the rebuild, I welded in Shelby over-ride bars to rear torque boxes.  This was fine for road racing but the ride was too harsh so I cut them out and a couple years later and replaced them with Lakewood traction bars.

As the pics show, the car was down to bare bones with all new lines (brakes/fuel) and weather stripping added.  I used the trim and stainless pieces that were in good shape and replaced the remaining pieces with aftermarket as needed.  I replaced the heat and air with Classic Auto Air so all the duct and related controls/wiring was new.  New radio and speakers with input and USB jacks for an Ipod.  The doors shut and the windows roll up and down easily.  After 2 years of driving this car, I decided to improve the cars performance, so I pulled the engine and put a Pro-Comp aluminum head and intake, and a Erson cam and lifters.  (Cam is Erson E212421 / lobe separation 108 / lift .504 / duration 296).  The carb is a Holly 600 CMF Double Pump / mechanical secondary-manual choke with a 66 primary and a 73 secondary.  Large aluminum radiator, 180 degree thermostat (with no overheat problems in heavy traffic with the A/C going).

Overall the car is user friendly and is a beautiful vehicle for a daily-drive (as it occasionally goes to Wal-mart).  Minimum scratches with no road rash to the tires or wheels.  Exterior trim is nice.  Car is not Barrett/Jackson caliber but is a very high-end driver.

I personally built this car (welding, paint, interior, motor work, etc.) so I can answer all questions, so please email me if you would like to know any other specifics.  I'm the old guy in the pics.

On Mar-22-13 at 11:57:47 PDT, seller added the following information:

I forgot to mention, from the time of build, the exhaust is new stock replacements from the exhaust manifolds to the tailpipes.

I've also uploaded 112 build photos to my Photobucket website.  Please email me for a link to my web page as EBay will not allow me to post it on this listing.  Thanks.

Will the new Ford GT race at Le Mans?

Tue, Jan 13 2015

Ford stole the spotlight here on the floor of the Detroit Auto Show this year with the reveal of the new GT. Its carbon-fiber chassis, 600-plus-horsepower EcoBoost engine and radical aerodynamic shape made sure of that, but flanking it with the debuts of the Mustang GT350R and F-150 Raptor didn't hurt any, either. Any racing fan looking at the new Blue Oval supercar, however, had to wonder whether Dearborn is planning on putting it on the race track. The House that Hank Built is, after all, a known entity in motor racing. It may be canceling its V8 Supercars program Down Under, withdrawn its support from the World Rally Championship, and it's been years since it's competed in Formula One or Indy. But it still competes in the United SportsCar Championship, NASCAR, NHRA and a variety of motor racing disciplines. One of its most famous and celebrated of racing endeavors, however, came in the form of the original GT40 that brought Ford four consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, starting with a dominant one-two-three finish in 1966. It's the 50th anniversary of that landmark win which the new Ford GT celebrates, but while the press materials made clear reference to that historical event, any mention of a return as was previously speculated was carefully omitted. That, according to Autosport, could come down purely to the ACO, the organizers of the event and sanctioning body for its associated series, which has yet to announce the revised format for the GTE class under which a potential Ford GT racer would compete in 2016. Longtime Ford racing partner Multimatic is said to have closely consulted with the ACO on the formation of those rules, however, and assuming they're finally formulated to Dearborn's liking, we could be looking at a GTE-spec Ford GT to return to La Sarthe next year in celebration of that landmark victory half a century prior. Chip Ganassi Racing – which races under Chevy power in NASCAR and Indy but recently switched to Ford for its Daytona Prototype – is said to be in line to field the car on Dearborn's behalf. If given the green light, it would be the first time Ford would field a factory effort at Le Mans since the C100 project under the Group C category in the early 1980s. A racing version of the previous Ford GT was prepared by Switzerland-based Matech a few years ago, but without factory support or notable success beyond the FIA GT3 European Championship.

Compact SUV Comparison: Specs, pics and reviews of every brand's crossover

Wed, Jul 25 2018

Honda CR-V vs Toyota RAV4. Chevy Equinox vs Ford Escape. Mazda CX-5 vs Subaru Forester. Whichever combinations of compact crossover SUV you're considering, there's probably a comparison test or chart out there to read. Heck, you can even create a three-car comparison yourself here at Autoblog. However, if you want a bunch of that information all in one convenient place, well, here it is. Our mega comparison of specs, features and photos of compact SUV entries from every mainstream manufacturer that sells them. That includes the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, 2018 Ford Escape, 2018 GMC Terrain, 2018 Honda CR-V, 2018 Hyundai Tucson, 2019 Jeep Cherokee (it's already on sale with notable changes from 2018), 2018 Jeep Compass, 2018 Kia Sportage, 2018 Mazda CX-5, 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (none of Mitsu's SUVs are perfect fits for this segment, so we deemed the MEC the most competitive fit), 2018 Nissan Rogue, 2018 Subaru Forester, 2018 Toyota RAV4 and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. We can update this comparison as more information about 2019 models is released, most notably the Forester and RAV4. Now, there are certainly some models that are smaller (Nissan Rogue Sport) or larger (Kia Sorento) that could also be considered, but we figured it was wise to stick with those in this sweet spot of comparable size and price. We also included links to Autoblog reviews, buying guides and smaller comparisons. Engines and Transmissions With rare exception, this segment features four-cylinder power. Sometimes it's turbocharged, often its not, but standard engine outputs are generally in the same ballpark. Therefore, we'd recommend focusing on torque output, as it's what will make a difference around town or when passing, and weighing that versus fuel economy (the Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 make particularly strong cases in this regard). Many drivers aren't too fond of continuously variable transmissions (CVT), either, so that's another thing to consider and note during a test drive. As you can see, several models are available with performance upgrades. Besides the Jeep Cherokee's available V6, all are more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The exception to this would be the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape, as their 1.5-liter turbo engines don't prioritize performance. Instead, they serve as overall upgrades to the base naturally aspirated engines standard on only their base trim levels (CR-V LX and Escape S).

Ford to build Explorer in Russia to meet demand [w/video]

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

The current Ford Explorer is sold in more than 64 countries, and this three-row vehicle continues to grow in popularity worldwide. To keep up with demand, Ford began producing the Explorer at Ford Sollers Elabuga Assembly Plant in Tatarstan, Russia, a joint venture facility. This partnership will build Russian-market Explorers only, and production of export vehicles not destined for Russian buyers will continue to be built at Ford's assembly plant in Chicago.
Before this plant went online, Ford would ship Explorers to Russia (and other regions around the world) as partially assembled knock-down units where final assembly would eventually take place. While there is no indication as to how many Explorers Ford Sollers will build for Russia, Ford did add that exports of the SUV were up 65 percent last year (from 2011) accounting for more than 24,000 units.
Scroll down for a press release about the Russian Explorer as well as a video (bad music and all) showing the SUV being produced in Tatarstan.
