This 65 Mustang has received lots of TLC and it shows. Every step of the restoration has been fully documented with receipts and pictures. Though this 65 Mustang was originally a six cylinder, it has been upgraded to better than original condition as a 289 V8. The engine has been rebuilt and runs beautifully. The current owner completely disassembled the mechanical components, cleaned and detailed the engine and engine compartment, and replaced the two barrel carb and intake with a new Edelbrock performer intake and Holley 650 cfm 4 barrel. All the hoses, wires, clamps, fuel lines, and filters have been replaced with OE reproduction parts. The vehicle comes with power steering and power brakes and the complete brake system has been replaced with all new parts including a new power booster and dual master cylinder. This incredible Mustang Restomod comes with dual exhaust flowmaster mufflers, custom leather interior (including the trunk), a high end stereo system and a brand new Painless wiring system. Jay Leno's Garage goes eco with Ricardo HyBoost

Despite the slightly defensive introduction from Jay, the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage is actually pretty fascinating. The Ricardo HyBoost is a 2009 Ford Focus that has had a 1.1-liter engine swapped in for the stock 2.0-liter four. That might not get you performance enthusiasts out there fired up, until, that is, you hear that the 1.1L is also fed by both a turbocharger and an electrically driven supercharger for an instant-on "torque-fill" effect. Sounds about right, considering that Ricardo engineering is part of the genius behind the McLaren P1.
Perhaps most exciting of all, the Ricardo folks say that the package should run somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,100. A sort of performance-hybrid that makes sense for the frugal driver and the enthusiast one, then. There's a lot more to the HyBoost, all of which can be seen in the video below.
Jay Leno drives postcard-perfect '32 Ford Highboy Roadster
Mon, 25 Aug 2014At the turn of the century, it was arguably the Honda Civic that best defined inexpensive performance tuning, and in the '50s it was the Tri-5 Chevys. One of the earliest platforms to gain a huge following among young people looking for a cheap way to go fast was the classic '32 Ford Highboy Roadster. This week, Jay Leno's Garage looks at one of the very first vehicles that defined the look of the hot rod heyday.
This '32 Ford was built in the '40s and graced the cover of the fourth issue of Hot Rod Magazine back in 1948. All of the hot rods that you see shining at car shows today owe a serious debt of gratitude to this roadster. It bears all of the cues that define the look, including a notched frame and hidden door hinges. Under the three-piece hood is a flathead V8 boasting all sorts of period modifications, including copper cylinder heads. It was seriously fast in its era too, and proved it by reaching 112.21 miles per hour on a dry lakebed in 1947.
These days, this hot rod is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Although, if you can't make it to California to see it, the United States Postal Service is celebrating this Ford with one of its two hot rod Forever stamps. Like Jay says in the video, in terms of hot rodding, "it all comes back to this." Check out the video to learn more about this rolling piece of tuning history.
