1926 Model T Ford Truck on 2040-cars
Athens, Georgia, United States
This is one of those miracles in which a heap got working. It works great! Starts right up, drives, brakes on a dime. It is the original flat 4 engine. The timing is electronic. I put an alternator in after messing with the generator for way too long. The rear end has a complete rebuild. The transmission has new kevlar bands. The starter works great (you hot wire two wires right now; I have a key switch that I'll include). Lights work. There's a rear running light and a stop light. The brakes are powerful disc brakes that I installed. They work perfectly and with total confidence. The emergency brake is a drum and it is fine. It has an air filter. There's hardly any oil leaking but I can't say that it is 100% dry. I mean, really good for an old car... but it will leave a little puddle after a few months. What else? No seat belts. The tires are newer (obviously) and cool. It is a unique ride! Nobody has a car that looks like this and yes it turns heads wherever it goes. Top speed is probably 40 mph. I have no idea what the fuel consumption is. There's some rust here and there but nothing structural. Drives great. There's some play in the wheel but can be easily worked with. I haven't driven a lot of Model Ts so I don't know if it is more than usual. The car was once used by a Clown Club. Buy it!!
I know the price may be more than you'd like... but I'm selling at a loss, as it always is with these old cars. What you're getting is a mechanically perfect ancient car that can be redesigned in whatever direction you want to go in. Anyway, the price is firm. Here's a video I made of the car starting up on the crank (which is optional, since the starter works). http://youtu.be/K-YRGgtRgdA |

GM readying aluminum-body fullsize pickups
Wed, 19 Feb 2014Ford's extensive use of aluminum in its 2015 F-150 is a big deal. A really big deal. Big enough, in fact, that General Motors is reportedly changing its fullsize pickup strategy. According to The Wall Street Journal, The General has locked in partnerships with Alcoa Inc. and Novelis Inc. - companies that will supply aluminum for the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks.
"Ford's introduction of the 2015 F-150 pickup truck was a game changer, and it's the first, not the last, conversion of this type," Novelis spokesperson Charles Belbin told the Journal. The switch to aluminum has allowed Ford to shave roughly 700 pounds off its fullsize truck's curb weight. And while official mileage ratings have not been announced, the weight loss should go a long way for improving efficiency, especially when combined other efficiency-minded improvements including better aerodynamics and new, turbocharged V6 engines.
Of course, aluminum-bodied cars are nothing new. But extensive use of aluminum in a major, best-selling product like the Ford F-150 is expected to kick off widespread use of this weight-saving material as availability rises and cost decreases. The WSJ reports that GM had originally explored the idea of moving to aluminum pickups back in 2008, but abandoned the idea due to cost concerns amid economic woes.

Top Gear's latest trailer shows off a golden Bugatti Chiron
Thu, Feb 23 2017Top Gear is returning on March 5, and after a lackluster first series with the new hosts, the new group seems determined not to hit a sophomore slump. Chris Evans is gone, and the latest teaser trailer shows the new trio of Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid strapped into some pretty fantastic cars, including the Bugatti Chiron and the Ford GT. All of the typical Top Gear segments appear to be present, though the quick cuts don't give us many details. The trailer shows a copious amount of powerslides from an assortment of cars, and even Chris Harris racing around Daytona. Aside from the Bugatti and Ford, cars from Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW, Aston Martin, and Alfa Romeo are all present. Co-hosts Eddie Jordan and Sabine Schmitz don't appear at all, so it seems their roles may be downplayed to focus on three guys, as was the case pre-reboot. We have some hope for this re-relaunched show and will be keeping an eye out for more details in the lead-up to the series premiere.
