Up for bids is my 1926 Model T Ford Runabout. After some 25 years of restoring, judging, buying, selling and trading Model As, I started looking for an inexpensive, running, driving Model T just to learn more about what makes them “tick” and most important, how to drive one!

I guess you could call this a “barn find”, however I’m not the original “finder”. Someone before me made some improvements in order to get it running the most important of which were a new gas tank and apparently two new coils, spark plugs, etc.

Even with these repairs, it would start but ran rough so I made even more improvements. I replaced anther non-firing coil, the carburetor with a nice Kinston, battery and plug wires. I also rebuilt the starter bendix and installed a new right front outer wheel bearing. It now cranks fairly easy and runs and drives! I have been driving the T around a large lot and find the low and reverse gears to be acceptable. High gear also seems OK but I’ve only been able to use it sparingly due to the small area. I also feel some “grab” on the brake band but since the rear brake rods are missing, braking is somewhat unreliable! At present, I am only running the T on “battery”.

Rather than completely rewiring everything through the original ignition switch, I added another switch straight from the battery to the starter switch and on to the coils and generator. I’m not convinced the generator is working, but seems to keep the battery charged! Unfortunately, I can’t speak for the magneto since it is not wired into the system. I would imagine it is still in working order but might need some TLC.

One thing that impressed me was how complete this T is as far as original parts are concerned. Also, I’m impressed as to how straight and tight I find the body and fenders to be. As you can see in the pictures, it still has the original top irons! Since it is so complete, if it was a Model A I would not hesitate to do a complete restoration! The car also comes with two extra wheels, one with a rim and an extra “felloe” all in OK condition.

So, here she is! A great winter project for complete restoration or, some mechanical work for a fun “rat rod” or (as much as I hate to say it) a fantastic possible street rod body!

Why am I selling it? Well, not long after I bought the car a 1922 Model T Doctor’s coupe came available. I bought it! Now I have two Model Ts and storage for only one!

The car is located in Augusta, GA. And I strongly encourage anyone interested to visit for a test drive and inspection or send their representative. I’ll be more that happy to show the car, after all it will be sold “as is” “no warranty”!

Please contact me with any questions and I will be happy to supply answers to the best of my ability concerning Model Ts.

Buyer will be responsible for pick-up and/or delivery from Augusta, GA. 30907. I will be happy to assist in delivery within mileage limits.

A $500.00 deposit is required via PayPal or cashier’s check within 48 hours of auction close. Balance to be paid by cashier’s check within seven days of auction end.

This Model T is sold with “as is, no warranty” Bill of Sale only! No title!

Thanks for looking and please contact me with any questions!

Jaguar design boss admits X-Type was a mistake

Thu, 19 Sep 2013

History has a way of repeating itself, especially in the auto industry. When Jaguar was owned by Ford, the British brand attempted to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series, called the X-Type. Based on the bones of a Ford Mondeo, it aped the styling of Jaguar's flagship model, the XJ, while borrowing liberally from the Ford parts bin. That was 2001.
Now, in 2013, Jaguar is planning a new 3 Series challenger based on the platform previewed by the C-X17 Concept, while Ford is attempting to take the latest Mondeo upmarket. The moves have both brands recognizing where, why, and how the X-Type failed. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," Jaguar's current head of advanced design, Julian Thomson, told PistonHeads. Basing the X-Type on a front-drive car while giving it styling that was meant for a rear-driver lead to proportions that "were plainly wrong," Thomson told PH. Ford's European head of quality, Gunnar Herrmann, added that the X-Type was "a fake Jaguar, because every piece I touch is Ford."
For what it's worth, the X-Type's successor in the segment will sport rear-drive, with plenty of input from Ian Callum. Thomson described the new model, which would challenge the 3 Series as having, "Big wheels right to the ends of the car, low bonnet, short overhangs, very low cabins." Sounds good to us.

Ford Mondeo Hybrid could beat unloved diesels in Europe

Wed, Feb 11 2015

Predicting changes in the European auto market isn't easy, and Ford is hedging its bets there with the introduction of the Mondeo Hybrid. The Blue Oval has no expectation of the electrified version of the sedan being a rollicking sales success, but the model is a fuel-efficient alternative in case the recent backlash against diesel turns into an outright ban somewhere. This is the first time Ford is selling a hybrid version of the Mondeo (a cousin to the Fusion in the US) in Europe. The vehicle pairs a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder with a 1.4-kWh battery pack to make a total of 185 horsepower and emit 99 grams per kilometer of CO2. The Blue Oval expects to sell around 100,000 units of all versions of the sedan annually there, according to Automotive News Europe. However, fewer than 5,000 of those are predicted to be the gas-electric model. "Legislation around Europe is so different it's very difficult to predict," Roelant de Waard, Ford of Europe sales boss, said to ANE. "If you're betting only on one horse you might be lucky, but you also may be very unlucky." Ford is probably smart to have alternatives ready, and it also already offers the Focus Electric and hybrid C-Max there. Governments in Europe are rapidly turning against diesel, especially in France. The country considered offering buyers 10,000 euros ($11,300) if they trade in an old oil-burner on a new electric vehicle, and the prime minister calls backing the fuel for so long a mistake. The UK's Labour Party is making similar declarations. 2017 Ford Super Duty trucks recalled because the fuel tank could fall off

Wed, Dec 21 2016

Bad news from Dearborn. Ford just announced a pair of recalls, including a particularly worrying flaw in the new F-Series Super Duty. According to Ford's official announcement, there are roughly 8,000 of its big trucks on the roads with a missing reinforcement bracket – if it's not there, the fuel tank could separate from the frame. Yes, Ford is basically saying the fuel tank could fall out. We don't need to explain why this would be a very bad thing. Fortunately, no owners have experienced said bad things – Ford claims it's unaware of any fires, injuries, or accidents resulting from the flaws. The Kentucky Truck Plant built the affected pickups between August 10 and September 17. The bulk of the vehicles are in the US – 7,103, to be precise. Another 964 are cruising around the frozen Canadian tundra, while two more are in "federalized territories." The other recall is smaller, but reaches across a broad swath of the Blue Oval's family vehicles. Ford says there are 1,352 Taurus sedans, Flex crossovers, Explorer SUVs – including the Police Interceptor Utility variant – and Lincoln MKTs equipped with the company's 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that could catch fire. In this case, the danger isn't a detached fuel tank, but an "improperly brazed turbocharger oil supply tube" that could leak and spill engine oil on the turbocharger. Again, Ford isn't aware of any fires, accidents, or injuries due to the flaw. Here's the breakdown of manufacturer dates and location: 2016 Ford Taurus vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant, Oct. 18, 2016 to Nov. 2, 2016 2016-17 Ford Flex vehicles built at Oakville Assembly Plant, Oct. 18, 2016 to Nov. 10, 2016 2017 Ford Explorer vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant, Oct. 15, 2016 to Nov. 12, 2016 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant on Nov. 2, 2016 2016-17 Lincoln MKT vehicles built at Oakville Assembly Plant, Oct. 18, 2016 to Nov. 10, 2016 As with the Super Duty recall, most of the affected cars, crossovers, and SUVs are in the US market. There are 126 units in Canada and six in the same "federalized territories" mentioned above. In the case of both recalls, dealers will inspect the affected parts and replace or add them as necessary.
