For bid and sale is a 1929 Model A Ford coupe with rumble seat. Actually, due to my age and health concerns, I'm selling 2 Model A's (pictured), but this ad is for the 1929 coupe. This vehicle is originally from Texas, but was purchased several years ago in the Joplin, Mo. area. After completing work on my 1930 sedan, I started on the coupe. This was a body off restoration with all or most things done which I knew to do, including new body felt, POR 15, improved motor mounts, and new wood as needed. The following describes the vehicle: converted to 12V for better lighting and easy starting, new black wall tires, gas tank boiled and sealed, modern type shock kit, new stone guard, mirrors and parking lights, spare tire cover, all chrome new or refurbished, all glass new or good, transmission and running gears fine, professional paint job 2 tone green with black bottom (AutoDynamics -- Belington, WV -- shines great), complete engine rebuilt (McCartney -- French Creek, WV), less than 1 hour on engine, interior panels and headliner from LeBarron Bonney, main seat and rumble seat done by (Hillbilly Upholstery, Philippi, WV), plus many miscellaneous items too numerous to list. I have only driven this vehicle once around the block (runs fine) but did not like the handling which was likely due to the older 7 tooth (non-adjustable) steering gear -- a new 2 tooth gear would be far better. Like my 1930 sedan, this car has been sitting in my garage for 2-3 years but I do start it periodically. This is a very nice coupe, essentially new in many respects, and inspections are welcome. Ordinary forms of payment acceptable. Also advertised locally. Bob Reger 304-823-1992.

Ford profits soar as problems mount
Mon, 19 Aug 2013Ford is doing well. It can't make enough examples of its new Fusion, it can barely make enough of the aging F-150, it's getting good brand rankings, people like its turnaround story, it's selling oodles of product and its quarterly profit numbers end in the word "billion." As other high-flying examples have demonstrated over the past few years, though, big numbers can come with problems that aren't exactly small.
Automotive News has published a good "nutshell" report of Ford's progress and problems. The Dearborn automaker's optimistic "general label rule" determination of gas mileage for the C-Max Hybrid has led to lawsuits, hybrid software updates, a downward revision of C-Max fuel economy and millions in rebates. AN notes the C-Max was the "worst-scoring model in this year's J.D. Power Initial Quality Study," but Ford will probably be happy that it managed not to be mentioned further in the study's results after last year's mediocre showing. Its MyTouch and SYNC systems, the bugbears sabotaging Ford's J.D. Power results, have also led to lawsuits, software updates, more software updates and a center console rethink. On top of that, the 1.6-liter EcoBoost in the 2013 Ford Escape that Ford called a "hero" was soon catching fire for three different reasons. And let's not even get into the troubled launch of the Lincoln MKZ.
The Automotive News piece notes that industry observers have been surprised at Ford's stumbles because everything has been looking so good. Nevertheless, there is still the issue of those billions in profits - the company is doing plenty of things, plural, right. Ford says it is tackling its problems, hiring engineers and instituting new quality control processes as part of its effort to find solutions. The test will be to see if in a year from now we begin the discussion of these issues with "Remember when Ford...", or "Problems continue at The Blue Oval."
Ford bumped by Amazon in best-perceived brand list
Mon, 20 Jan 2014Back in July, a mid-year study from YouGov found Ford to have higher brand perception than any other company in the US. While Ford failed to top the year-end study, it still has plenty to brag about. The final BrandIndex report shows that online retail giant Amazon edged out Ford for the top ranking, while Subway, the History Channel and Lowe's rounded out the top five spots.
For Ford, it's still an improvement from sixth place in the 2012 study, and, more importantly, it dominated other automakers in terms of brand perception with a clear advantage over Toyota, Honda, Chevy and Volkswagen. To determine how well - or not so well - a brand is perceived, YouGov uses a Buzz score that asks respondents whether they've "heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth" and whether it was positive or negative. While it isn't clear how many respondents were included, YouGov does point out that Ford had a strong presence in social media, advertising and newsworthy toward the end of the year.

Ford S-Max Concept proves minivans aren't always minivans [w/video]
Tue, 10 Sep 2013Ford's latest don't-call-it-a-minivan is called the S-Max Concept, and it's a looker. As you can see, the conceptual overgrown hatch makes good use of Ford's latest design language, especially at the very front of the S-Max, which bears a striking resemblance to production models that include the Focus, C-Max and Fusion.
Powering the S-Max Concept is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine, and while Ford doesn't actually list power figures for the concept, previous estimates put the mill at 133 kW of power (about 178 horsepower) and 240 Nm of torque (about 177 pound-feet). Inside, there's room for seven passengers and at least some of their luggage.
As you'd expect, the S-Max is loaded up with all of Ford's latest infotainment technology, including Sync and MyFordTouch. More interestingly, there are also onboard heart and blood glucose monitors that we doubt will be seeing the light of production anytime soon. On that topic, don't expect to see any S-Max-shaped vehicles hitting the US market from Ford, either. Scroll down below for the press release, but not before checking out the high-res image gallery above.
