Rare Find! 1929 “Briggs” Ford Model A Fordor Type 155-B Town Sedan Body B.

(History) In 1929, the Three Window Model A was produced as a deluxe model known as the Town Sedan. It features deluxe interior trim and cowl lights. There were 84,970 Town Sedans manufactured in 1929. **This particular Model A has the Body Number CL 199-9084 and was the 9,084th Briggs Town Sedan built in 1929. The Exterior Color (Lower Body) is Vagabond Green, (Upper Body, Belt and Moulding) Rock Moss Green, (Reveals) Vagabond Green, and (Stripe) Straw. The Interior Trim Scheme is Brown Mohair. The Fenders and Wheels came from the factory painted black. In January of 1929, Ford offered a new, three-window Fordor sedan. Although Briggs had been the exclusive builders of the two-window Fordor sedans, these new three-window models were built by both Briggs and Murray. The Type 155-B Town Sedan was built by Briggs. This same body was used, with the necessary cowl section modifications, on the 1930 and early 1931 three-window Fordor sedans before being discontinued in May of 1931. Cowl lights are furnished as standard equipment on the Town Sedan; they are the significant external difference between it and the three-window Fordor sedan.

Next Lincoln Navigator to drop V8 in favor of V6, but Ford Expedition might get both

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

A great many buyers fled from full-size body-on-frame SUVs to car-based crossovers in large measure to save fuel. But that doesn't mean there's still not a buying audience for more traditional truck-based utility vehicles, and those consumers doubtlessly wouldn't mind saving some dollars at the pump, too. According to Motor Trend, those shoppers might be in luck.
That's because the magazine has confirmed that Ford isn't walking away from the full-size SUV segment, and it's poised to do something about its offerings' economy ratings, too. According to MT, global Lincoln director Matt VanDyke has hinted that the next Navigator may drop two cylinders and go with a V6 model - the current model gets just 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 on the highway from its 5.4-liter V8. The obvious fitment would be Ford's 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, an engine that has spread like kudzu throughout the rest of the Blue Oval's large vehicle lineup.
Downsized turbocharged engines like Ford's EcoBoost franchise have come under fire as of late for not delivering their EPA fuel economy ratings, but their benefits extend beyond consumption - the 3.5L offers superior power and a better torque curve than the naturally aspirated V8. MT also suggests that Ford's 3.7-liter V6 could form the base engine for the next Navi - it has similar horsepower but a lot less torque than the current 5.4L. That may be less of a problem with the next generation tipped to go on a diet, which could level the playing field somewhat.

2013 Shelby 1000 unleashes its 1,200 horsepower ahead of NY show reveal

Fri, 22 Mar 2013

True story: Last fall, I had the opportunity to spend a week with Ford's new 2013 Shelby GT500 - the Blue Oval's factory Mustang with 662 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque. It's an amazing beast, to be sure. I'm not sure if it was Michigan's damp streets strewn with potholes and wet leaves, but at no point did I ever say to myself, "You know, Ford is on to a really good thing here, but what it really needs is about twice the power." And yet, for people in warmer climes with infrastructure in better nick - or for those whose muscle cars live their lives out on the track, there's apparently sufficient demand to warrant just such a beast.
Quick studies will recall that Shelby American launched its 1000 last year to commemorate its 50th anniversary, but it is returning to the New York Auto Show with a fresh version based on the 2013 GT500 I drove. The 2013 Shelby 1000 whips up 1,200 horsepower on pump gas thanks to beefed-up forced induction, engine internals and cooling. Wisely, it also incorporates an adjustable suspension and big brake package to make sure those ponies have the best chance being safely deployed to the ground.
What price the world's most powerful "production" muscle car? $154,995 for starters - donor GT500 not included. What, no convertible variant?
