Museum Car: 1928 Ford Model A Rumbleseat Roadster

Ford released the Model A in a time where all of the working class was in search of a very reliable mode of transportation to get to and from work. Recognizing the opportunities that were there Henry Ford created the Model A to accommodate their needs. He created, in my opinion, the easiest car in the world to maintain, find parts for, self-service, and customize. When people noticed these features bundled into one fine automobile they jumped in and increased the demand for Ford to produce these cars. At the time that The Model A came out the car was a fairly new piece of machinery to the world and to people’s garages. The world had not yet invented businesses such as quick lube that had the means to help you with the maintenance and repair work of your car. No, Ford sent all of his cars home from the factory with a service manual and made it possible for the individual owner to create a bond with their car that would impact history to an immeasurable  degree. Out of this spawned race cars, gear heads, motor specialists, and car enthusiasts that make up this wonderful, community based, hobby of cars.
This example of Ford’s 1928 Model A has been in a humidity controlled museum of convertibles for the last several years. It is a solid car with a good drive train and hydraulic brakes. This is a good car with a strong engine. The paint is in fairly good condition; however it is cracking in places. We have enjoyed owning this car. The wind deflectors that attach to the windshield are in the trunk because one of the brackets needs replaced. Furthermore, this car is not offered with a top. We purchased this car without the top. It is such a fun Sunday driver that we have never wanted a top on the car, as we do not get this car out in the rain. The only thing that a new owner would want to do to make this car roadworthy would be rebuilding the starter.
Before I list anything on eBay I like to get it out on the road and test it to insure that nobody will be paying for buyers remorse. This car has been on the road several times throughout our ownership, but when I went to start this car and get it out of the museum the starter seemed extremely weak. I cranked it the first time and it was struggling to turn the engine over right towards the end the engine made the noise like it was getting ready to fire. I turned the key off and pumped the gas again and adjusted the choke. When I turned the key again all was silent. There was no clicking, pecking or grinding noise. It was simply working one time and not the next. When I was trying to start it I knew that it had a weak starter and tried my best to be extra careful not to mess it up, however there is not much a person can do to be easy on a starter other than avoiding holding the key in the start position for an extended amount of time. I am the one that got the last crank out of this starter. If this car finds new ownership, I will see to it that there is a new battery installed. I can possibly lend some assistance with the started. The best thing about Ford’s Model A is that parts can be found easily for them. All cars have their own personalities; I believe that, all quirks aside, ownership of this car will be pleasurable for whoever it may be. It would be my pleasure to show the car in person. If you would like to see the car in person, or would like more information or pictures, I encourage you to contact me by phone, text, or Email. I will consider any offers that are made. Thank you for your interest in this fine automobile.

How Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra will take on the Ford F-150 profit machine

Fri, Aug 10 2018

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — When General Motors engineers were developing the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, some of them joined public tours of Ford's Dearborn, Mich., factory to watch aluminum-bodied F-Series trucks go down the assembly line. The redesign of the Ford F-Series trucks, launched in 2014, set a new standard for fuel economy and lightweight vehicle construction. But armed with stopwatches and trained eyes, the GM engineers believed they saw problems. "They had a real hard time getting those doors to fit," Tim Herrick, the executive chief engineer for GM truck programs, told Reuters. His team did more intelligence gathering. They bought and tore apart Ford F-Series doors sold as repair parts. Their conclusion: GM could cut weight in its trucks for a lower cost using doors made of a combination of aluminum and high-strength steel that could be thinner than standard steel, shaving off kilograms in the process. These pounds-and-pennies decisions will have major implications in the highest-stakes game going in Detroit: dominance in the world's most profitable vehicle market, the gasoline-fueled large pickup segment. What's more, GM is banking on strong sales of overhauled 2019 Silverados and GMC Sierras to fund its push into automated and electric vehicles — a business many investors see as the auto industry's long-term future. The risks are high given the hits automakers have taken from U.S. President Donald Trump's trade policies. Rising aluminum prices spurred by Trump's tariffs are driving up costs on the Ford's F-Series, while rising steel and aluminum prices likewise drag on GM results. GM also has a significant risk should the United States, Mexico and Canada fail to agree on a new NAFTA trade deal, given GM trucks built at its Silao, Mexico, factory could face a 25 percent tariff if NAFTA collapses. Major profit per truck Interviews with GM executives and a tour at its factory here in northwest Indiana provide a detailed look inside GM's plan for the most important vehicles in its global lineup. These big pickups are everything Tesla's Model 3 or Chevy's Bolt electric car is not. The mostly steel body is bolted to the truck's steel frame, rather than the one-piece body and frame electric vehicles. The majority of trucks will have a V-8 gasoline engine powering the rear wheels — like the classic GM cars of the 1950s. Some Silverados will have new four-cylinder engines, but there is no electric or hybrid offering as of now.

XCAR stages epic drag race between Ford GT40, GT70 and GT

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

XCAR has put together what it believes is a first - a drag race between Ford's legendary, Le Mans-winning GT40, the more recent GT supercar it inspired and the little-known GT70 rally car. The three mid-engined monsters were all built for very different purposes, and not surprisingly, they come to battle with very different powertrains.
The GT40 is powered by a thumping, naturally aspirated V8. This example, which looks like a Mark IV model, is likely powered by a 7.0-liter engine, although it's not entirely clear how much power it's putting down. The GT70, meanwhile, was Ford's response to the Lancia Stratos. Considering that the Lancia is one of the greatest rally cars in history and many of you are probably just hearing of the GT70 for the first time, you can imagine how much success Ford had with it. Only six were produced before a change in regulations doomed this mid-engined rally car.
The Ford GT, meanwhile, doesn't really need an introduction. 550 horsepower is on offer from a 5.4-liter, supercharged V8, which keeps the GT competitive even against more modern supercars. 60 miles per hour arrives in well under four seconds while the top speed sits at 212 mph. Not bad for a car that went out of production in 2006.

Automakers drop support for Trump effort against California emissions

Tue, Feb 2 2021

WASHINGTON — Toyota, Fiat Chrysler (now known as Stellantis following its merger with Peugeot) and other major automakers said on Tuesday they were joining General Motors in abandoning support for former President Donald Trump's effort to bar California from setting its own zero emission vehicle rules. The automakers, which also included Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Subaru, said in a joint statement they were withdrawing from an ongoing legal challenge to California's emission-setting powers, "in a gesture of good faith and to find a constructive path forward" with President Joe Biden. The automakers, along with the National Automobile Dealers Association, said they were aligned "with the Biden administrationÂ’s goals to achieve year-over-year improvements in fuel economy standards." Nissan in December withdrew from the challenge after GM's decision in November shocked the industry and won praise from Biden. On Monday, the Justice Department asked the U.S. Appeals Court for the District of Columbia to put the California emissions litigation on hold to "ensure due respect for the prerogative of the executive branch to reconsider the policy decisions of a prior administration." Biden has directed agencies to quickly reconsider TrumpÂ’s 2019 decision to revoke CaliforniaÂ’s authority to set its own auto tailpipe emissions standards and require rising numbers of zero-emission vehicles, as well as Trump's national fuel economy rollback. Asked to respond to the automakers' action, White House climate adviser Gina McCarthy said in a statement that "after four years of putting us in reverse, it is time to restart and build a sustainable future, grow domestic manufacturing, and deliver clean cars for America." California Governor Gavin Newsom praised the automakers on Twitter for "dropping your climate-denying, air-polluting, Trump-era lawsuit against CA" and urged them to join the voluntary framework. TALKS WITH BIDEN Separately, an industry trade group on Tuesday proposed to start talks with Biden on revised fuel economy standards that would be higher than Trump-era standards but lower than ones set during the prior Democratic administration. The Trump administration in March finalized a rollback of U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards to require 1.5% annual increases in efficiency through 2026, well below the 5% yearly boosts under the Obama administration rules it discarded.
