Up for bids is this clean old 1965 ford falcon 2 door hard top. This is a neat old car. These hardtops are getting hard to find. It is a futura. It has a 289 engine in it with a 4 speed top loader transmission and a 9 inch rear end. It did not start out this way but someone made it like they wanted it. It was originally a T code 6 cylinder car. Everything was converted over including the front suspension so all the 6 cylinder stuff is gone. It looks like it had alot of spunk back in its day. It was sat up in the early 90's awaiting a restoration and well you know the so familiar story it never happened. The gentleman I got it from said This was a big 9 inch rear end and a top loader 4 speed out of another later 60's model mustang. He said it had some power at the red light. The body is in good shape considering its age and looks to be original sheetmetal. The body as a whole would need some work but it wouldn't take much to get it ready to repaint. It has a few small spots that will need a little work. This is not a bondo buggy either it looks to be pretty solid. The bottom of the drivers fender will need a little work. All the glass is good except for the windshield and I have another good one to go with it. The interior is all there just needs restoring. The floors look okay. I see a few small holes in the rear ones but I think they could be fixed as is without having to change them out. Thats just my opinion someone thats wants something perfect would probably want them changed out. The truck floor is the same way has a few small spots but nothing to big. The frame, torque boxes, and engine bay are all solid. Overall this is a solid car. The motor will turn over by hand. I have not tried to crank it. It will need the fuel system cleaned, brake work, and whatever else before it is ready to go. It was running when it was sat up. It will most likely run still but will take some work and effort to do so. I have a clear title to it. It is located in Jonesboro Louisiana. I will accept cash in person, certitfied bank check, or bank wire transfer as payment for the car. New autonomous testing ground in Michigan will help battle bad weather

If one of the big weaknesses of autonomous vehicles is their ability to navigate in the snow, consider this a trial by fire. The American Center for Mobility says it has opened its $110 million driverless car testing facility on the site of a former General Motors assembly plant in Michigan, with Toyota and auto supplier Visteon the first to begin testing this week. The ACM proving ground is a 500-acre site at historic Willow Run in Ypsilanti Township, near Ann Arbor. It's one of 10 sites designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation as pilot proving ground sites to test AV technologies. It features a variety of simulated environments to test driverless cars, including a 2.5-mile highway loop, two double overpasses, intersections, roundabouts and a 700-foot curved tunnel. It also opens just as the region experiences a series of snowstorms and the first frigid temperatures of the season. That ability to test autonomous vehicles in a wide variety of weather conditions is important, as autonomous vehicle sensors have struggled to handle cold, wet and snowy conditions. Google parent Alphabet in October said its Waymo division was expanding its winter testing operations to Michigan, making it the sixth state where it's testing its driverless car systems. In a Medium blog post, Waymo CEO John Krafcik wrote that "This type of testing will give us the opportunity to assess the way our sensors perform in wet, cold conditions. And it will also build on the advanced driving skills we've developed over the last eight years by teaching our cars how to handle things like skidding on icy, unplowed roads." Waymo also opened a development center in suburban Detroit in 2016, working with Fiat Chrysler to integrate its autonomous technology into Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivans. Visteon began testing and validating its DriveCore autonomous driving platform to evaluate algorithms, vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure technology and other systems. Toyota used the facility Wednesday to begin orientation and driver training. ACM has so far secured $110 million to construct the first two phases from founders Ford, Hyundai America Technical Center, Toyota and Visteon, and says it expects to announce more investment soon.

How Ford's light lab keeps the sun shining on the new Mustang just right [w/video]

Anyone who's bought one of those old school metal shift knobs knows they're really cool until they sit in a parking lot in the sun for a few hours. Then they're not cool at all. Likewise, features such as the aluminum dash on the 2015 Ford Mustang can be all kinds of neat right up until the sun hits it just the right way and sends shards of blinding light through the cabin. The Ford Visual Performance and Evaluation Lab is where engineers figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen.
Cars like said Mustang are parked inside the 30-foot reflecting dome under 6,000 watts of lights that can mimic the sun at any time of day and in any weather condition. Engineers can then spend cold, overcast days inside, testing for interior legibility, glare and reflections on every interior and exterior surface as if it were bright and sunny. They can also learn how a car's sheetmetal and colors will look out of doors, all year round.
