1969 Ford Fairlane 2 dr ,A barnfind.Car sat in barn covered on blocks covered, for 14 years. It was removed, engine treated and allowed to sit. Car started but needed minor work. A new Elderbrock 4 barrel carb was installed, new heater core, vinyl top, headliner, fuel filter, fresh oil ,filter, transmission fluid and filter,,brakes gone thru,it has front disc and rear drum brakes. Engine had Cobra valve covers and front of engine has a serpentine belt, don;t know if it came that way or was changed.New tires were installed on factory wheels. While it was in the shop a young boy backed a riding tractor into shop and barely skinned the passengers door. A very thin layer of fiberglass was professionally applied and repainted with matching ford lime paint.Car has A/C compressor on engine and condenser, but needs under dash unit to operate.I purchased one,but it has not been installed on car,if buyer wants it, and additional fee of $400.00 will be required. The car has no rust in floor pans or trunk, body is solid and straight except for the small place on the passenger door. It is running and driving, however still needs minor bugs worked out,so I would suggest the car be trailered home. Exterior chrome is in very good condition with minor rust in the corner curves, trim is very good.Seats are bench, front seat has about a 1" repaired place where the seat folds forwars to let someone in rear seat. Rear seat ,headliner, and decklid look beautiful as well as door panels. The dash has no cracks or splits,.all of interior is black. New 14" itres were installed on the factory rims. The mileage reads 35979,however due to not being able to get signed document from original owner (deceased) the Virginia DMV states the car is in excess of 100k miles. They are real sticklers for that. All the glass is good no cracks or fading. The rubber spacer that sits against the two front side glasses needs replacing.as well as the dome light, needs replacing.,its there but lens has broken. I have a catalog that the parts are listed in and they are not to expensive, its just that I have so much money invested I can't proceed as I have become 100% disabled and am no longer able to work as I used to. Shipping is up to the buyer,I will not release car to anyone until the buyer contacts me with the shippers info and pickup date.I will work with buyer and hold the car for a reasonable time to arrange shipping. Perferred method of payment is PAYPAL,or USPS money order,or Certified Bank Check only. I have driven the car and it runs very good and trans shifts so smooth it is unreal.the mechanic I had do all the work for me said the trans had brass clutches in it,the best according to him.The car was a special order as it came with auto trans, not straight gear. The reserve is very reasonable for a car of this caliber, you sure don't see many around and it draws attention when you drive it.Paypal address is lukeosi@comcast.net.

Expert: 54.5 mpg CAFE standard can be reached without many plug-ins
Sat, Jan 18 2014Johnson Controls executive Brian Kesseler isn't likely to get any holiday presents this year from Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn or Tesla Motors head Elon Musk, but lots of other folks might be happy with what he has to say about automakers' efforts to reach stricter fleetwide fuel-economy standards. Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress, Kesseler said automakers wouldn't need to sell an extensive number of plug-in vehicles in order to meet the 54.5 mile per gallon Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard the US government set in 2012 for 2025 model-year vehicles. In fact, he said, components such as stop-start engine technology, turbochargers and direct injection may actually do the trick. Already, things like smaller engine sizes and lighter cars are already playing major roles in spurring fuel-efficiency gains. Of course, Johnson Controls sells batteries specially built for stop-start systems, so Kesseler does have a bit of skin in this game. The 54.5-mpg CAFE standard equates to about a 40-mpg "real world" fuel-efficiency level. To put that into perspective, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said in a report late last year that model-year 2013 average fuel economy was an even 24 mpg. That was up from 23.6 mpg for the 2012 model year and 22.4 mpg for 2011. New European charging network will offer speeds up to 350 kW
Tue, Nov 29 2016It's about to get easier to fast-charge your electric vehicle across Europe thanks to four major automakers working together in a new joint venture. BMW, Daimler (Mercedes-Benz), Ford, and the VW Group (Audi and Porsche) have all signed a Memorandum of Understanding to install about 400 DC fast charging sites in Europe. As you may know, there are different types of fast chargers, but the ones that this group is talking about installing will be able to charge an EV in much less time than other stations. That's because these chargers will offer power levels of "up to 350 kW." Compare that to what's generally considered the current gold standard, the Tesla Superchargers, which have rates of up to 145 kW and a statement not that long ago from a Ford exec that suggested that 150 kW chargers would be the new normal. Of course, the Tesla chargers use the company's proprietary connector and the new network the JV is setting up will use the CCS standard. The first new stations will go up in 2017 and those 400 sites are just the beginning. A joint statement by the JV says that EV drivers will "have access to thousands of high-powered charging points" by 2020 along highways and main roads. "The charging experience is expected to evolve to be as convenient as refueling at conventional gas stations," the companies said. While not every electric vehicle will be able to take advantage of the 350 kW charging rate, the companies involved would be silly to build the infrastructure without vehicles that can handle that kind of energy flow. The JV says it would welcome participation from other automakers and will cooperate with interested regional partners. Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set
Tue, Jul 19 2022Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, hence the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950s and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with the American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.
