1969 Ford fairlane COBRA 428 Cobra Jet - 4 Speed - 3.50 Traction Lock rare Formal Roof Bucket seat hard top VIEW SLIDE SHOW.... http://s1007.photobucket.com/user/EastEndClassics/slideshow/1969%20Fairlane%20Cobra?sort=6 True barn find pulled from a Michigan storage garage. Car was put away in the late 70's and sat for many years. Southern car purchased new in Florida from Grant Motor company dealership. Looks to have been lightly raced since new and well cared for. It made its way north in the late 70's and was lightly used since. Just over 67k miles on the odometer and seems to be correct. I did notice a heater core leak just this past weekend while out for a cruise. I purchased a new Dearborn Classics core, correct NOS type hoses & clamps which I plan to install when I get a chance. Body: Car was originally Wimbledon White. One repaint in early 70's to Raven Black. One small rust bubble on driver’s side of rear wheel 1/4 panel is the only major body rust evident. Very solid body that looks like all the original panels and very straight for a black car. The paint is fine from 50', but up close it is showing age with some random chipping and shrinking here & there. It is fine for a driver and gets attention where ever I drive but for show duty, It could use a fresh repaint. Must have been a quality job back in the day as there is no evidence of the factory white except behind the seats and under the carpet. I plan to return it to its factory Ford Racing White but speaking to some of the previous owners, its been black for much of its life probably longer then white. All weatherstrip is old and dry requiring replacement. Engine: 428 Cobra Jet engine runs very strong with no smoke and good oil pressure. Engine was rebuilt about 5-7 years ago. Block is not numbers matching but is a 428 Cobra Jet service block. Heads are correct 428CJ and may be correct, but I have not checked the dates under the valve covers. The original correct Holley carburetor sits atop a modern Edelbrock Performer intake manifold. Breather Ram Air assembly looks original and correct but no S-tube or heat shield. Ignition is handled by a MSD ignition box and billet distributor that keep timing spot on with no detonation. Valve train specs are not documented but my experience and sound suggests a Mild solid lifter cam that idles around 800 rpm, has some muscle car lope & clackety clack sound but not absurd. Correct Cobra Jet exhaust header manifolds vent spent gasses through a newly installed 2 1/2 inch exhaust system with Thrush Stainless mufflers. Nice rumble at idle and cruise tone is mellow due to the manifolds. It will bark when you dip in to the secondary’s though. Driveline: Correct RUG-AJ coded Toploader 4-speed transmission with vintage Hurst shifter goes smoothly through all gears. Reverse light switch is on shifter needs replacement. Nodular 9 inch housing (no N on these early rear housings) with 3.50 9 traction lock operates smoothly and quiet with no clunking. Suspension appears in good condition & functions well with no issues as the car drives straight and smooth. There is an occasional minor squeak from urethane strut rod bushings that comes and goes. Old air shocks in rear, stock type up front. All in all, it feels very solid for a 60's muscle car. Will need weather-strip and rubber window trim to remove the old car drafts and wind noise. Interior: Interior is original. Seats in front are starting to show some wear. Drivers seat has some damage from someone sitting with a screwdriver in pocket. Dash pad is nice and no obvious cracking. The console front where the glove box compartment was has been removed to facilitate aftermarket gauge installation. You don’t really notice this due to a factory looking trim panel that has been fabricated to fill the space neatly. Rear window gasket leaks a bit in the rain and as I mentioned, the car really needs new weather-strip all around. Electrical system functions normal, radio works & factory gauges and lights all work as intended with the exception of temp & oil. They have been bypassed for the aforementioned sun gauges. Fuel gauge functions but does not go to Full. Reverse lights don’t work due to bad reverse shifter switch below car. Wheels/Tires: Vintage looking Cragar SST wheels and tires have been on the car for some time. 225x70x15 front & 275X60X15 Kelly Charger L60 rear. I have an original set of 15" wheels (no tires) and dog dish hub caps to include with this car. The car has a level if slight nose up stance from its days as a drag car. History: I was able to speak with two of the previous owners who said the car was raced back in the early 70's right out of the dealership with a parts dept Ford solid lifter cam, Holman Moody intake and some other vintage parts. Nobody was able to confirm the Holman Moody tag so consider it an aftermarket. I was able to get some of the vintage components but they are not on the car and NOT INCLUDED. I would consider selling to the winner of this auction if interested. It’s a nice solid driving Fairlane Cobra 428 4-speed R code. I would love to return it to Wimbledon White with the dog dish hub caps. Questions welcome and encouraged. Assume nothing; call to satisfy your interest. Bid to buy, not to come and negotiate. Ford's new Focus RS hatches hot and heads for America
Tue, Feb 3 2015The hot hatch market is heating up, and heating up fast. What you see here is Ford's new challenger for pocket-rocket supremacy, the third iteration of the breed and the 30th model to wear the Rallye Sport designation. But perhaps best of all, it will be the first time Ford will offer a new Focus RS in America. Following yesterday's leak, the latest Ford Focus RS is now ready to step out into the light and light up its tires. Answering the call is the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four as you'd find in the new Mustang, but upgraded with a new low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, larger compressor and intercooler, freer-flowing intake, large-bore dual-pipe exhaust with electronically controlled valve and upgraded internal components. The result is a 6,500-rpm redline (closer to that of Ford's atmospheric performance engines) and an output quoted as "well in excess of 315 horsepower" – which is already 5 more than the EcoBoost Mustang and a good 63 more than the existing Focus ST. Power is transmitted to the tarmac through a new performance-focused all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring that can send as much as 70 percent of available twist to the rear wheels (and as much as 100 percent between them). The system works in tandem with the brake-based torque vectoring system and stability control, and will even divert torque to the outside rear wheel under cornering to keep it flat and under control while reducing understeer. Those still suspicious of dual-clutch gearboxes will also be pleased to read that Ford has stuck with a conventional six-speed manual. We'll reserve judgement on the inclusion of the electric power steering until we get a chance to drive it, though. Of course the small team of global Ford Performance engineers who developed the new Focus RS – and the Gymkhana legend Ken Block who consulted on the project – didn't just tinker with the powertrain and leave it at that. The suspension features stiffer spring rates, bushings and anti-roll bars than the Focus ST, augmented by two-mode switchable dampers. 19-inch alloys wear Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber, with optional Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slicks for track-day enthusiasts. Ford has yet to detail the brakes on its new hot hatch, but you can bet they've been upgraded as well.
Couple fined for parking Ford F-150 in their own driveway
Tue, Jan 20 2015A homeowners' association in New York is suing two of its residents for parking their pickup truck in their own driveway. David and Arna Orlando of Manlius, NY, are facing a lawsuit from the Kimry Moor Homeowners Association for parking their black 2014 Ford F-150 pickup in their own driveway. The Orlandos own their home, but common areas such as their driveway are managed by their HOA, which limits what vehicles can park in the open. They only allow "private, passenger-type, pleasure automobiles" to park outside of a garage. David Orlando says his pickup is a personal passenger vehicle and that the rule is silly. He also feels he is being unfairly targeted. A Syracuse.com reporter drove around the Orlandos' neighborhood and saw another fullsize pickup parked in another driveway, along with a large van and SUV. The Orlandos said in court documents that the pickup is registered as a private vehicle and neither of them have commercial drivers' licenses. The lawsuit was filed in August 2013 and is still in the discovery phase. Depositions are up next. New York seems to have gone power-mad when it comes to regulating common driveway activities. In a Garden City, NY, neighborhood last year police were called when two men began washing a new Volkswagen "in public view", which was against a local ordinance. Ford reveals new Ranger Wildtrak across the Pacific
Thu, Jun 11 2015Want to get your hands on a new Ranger? Ford doesn't offer it here anymore, so you'll have to travel (or relocate) to somewhere it does. Like Bangkok, Thailand, where it just unveiled the new Ranger Wildtrak. Based on the updated Ranger revealed just a few months ago, the new Wildtrak features a more, shall we say, vibrant design as the flagship of the Ranger range. Dark metallic gray accents the nose, mirrors, door handles, air vents, bed rails, and tail lamps for a sportier, more rugged look. It's also got a contrasting hoop at the junction of cab and bed, rectangular fog lamps, 18-inch alloys, and Wildtrak graphics to set it apart from "lesser" Rangers. And the interior has been enhanced as well with all the upgrades applied to the standard model along with sportier trim. Everything else carries over from the standard model, including the diesel powertrain, full suite of the latest electronic assists, and go-anywhere capability. It'll ford (suitably enough) through water over 31 inches deep, clear nine inches above the ground and tow over 7,700 pounds. If you want to know more, you can scope out all the details in the press release below - or better yet, book a flight across the Pacific and see for yourself. 10 JUN 2558 | BANGKOK, THAILAND FORD UNVEILS THE ULTIMATE NEW RANGER; WILDTRAK READY TO TAKE ON THE WORLD WITH BOLD DESIGN, SMART TECHNOLOGY - Aggressive, distinctive design and unique features help new Ranger Wildtrak stand apart from the crowd Striking, modern, car-like interior underscores technological capabilities and adds to premium, sporty feel - Wildtrak boasts full array of smart features, including SYNC 2 connectivity, Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert, Driver Impairment Monitor and Front and Rear Parking Sensors - World-beating capabilities, including robust electronically controlled transfer case, class-leading 800 mm water-wading capability and 230 mm ground clearance ensure new Wildtrak is up for any adventure - Improved ride and powerful, efficient 3.2-liter latest-generation Duratorq diesel engine help to deliver on Ford's fun-to-drive promise The new Ranger Wildtrak, the ultimate model in the Ford Ranger line-up, makes its global debut today, ready to take on the world with a new array of smart technologies and an even bolder look for one of the world's toughest and most capable trucks.
