1957 Ford Skyliner Retractable

Nothing to spend.  Excellent condition. This must be close to the best driving 57 Skyliner in America.  It just had a $2,000 service including replacing the rear engine seal!  It is driven every weekend (weather permitting).  It is reliable and  comfortable and has no problems handing the NYC traffic.  Driven regularly on weekend excursions.  This summer it has done 3 x 250 mile trips out of town without fault.  It has a  1968 390 motor (which gives this car the power and dependability it lacked from new). Car had a frame off restoration about 14 years ago, still showing extremely well - custom interior in beautiful condition.  Two nickel size rust spots showing through near back wheels.  Two mechanics have described it as a ‘miracle’ car.  It has all its factory original metal underneath, including sills.  Left rear sill has been repaired at some time and has the only filler I know of.  This car is equally at home doing 70 mph or in heavy Manhattan traffic. It is not an original trailer queen - it has a few squeaks and minor paint chips - it is a solid, proper working classic.  You don’t need to spend a a dollar to drive this home across the country.  You could do anything with this car, leave as is or lightly restore to original with minimum effort. $1,000’s spent in the last 2 years to make this a fabulous driving car (all work carried out be professionals), including:

·         New custom power window system (not a one-fits-all, but custom made regulators for a 57 Skyliner)

·         New Battery

·         New Starter motor

·         New 145 amp Alternator conversion

·         New Power steering pump

·         Power disc front brake conversion

·         Complete new duel exhaust system

·         Electronic ignition conversion

·         Electronic fuel pump conversion

·         New Concealed iphone player in the ashtray

·         New tires (only driven about 2000 miles on them)

·         New Front end- tie rods/ball joints

·         New Neutral Safety Switch

·         New Adjustable headrests on original seats (professionally fitted).  Can remove them, if so desire

·         New 3 point front seat belts (professionally fitted) - the original quarter window panels come with the car, if you want to remove them

·         New Racing harness rear belts (professionally fitted) - can be hidden away behind rear seat if desire - designed for kids

·         Roof working well - just serviced by a professional New England club specialist

·         Hard to find windscreen vents and controller parts for Select Aire  included (you could match it up with a vintage air system)

·         Great condition Town & Country Radio (I do not know if it works, it lights up when power is connected, but I don’t have a speaker to test it)

·         A few spare parts, including original power window gang switch and one single switch (I don’t know if they work) so you could convert the current system to a factory look (single switches available new), power seat switch

·         New custom car cover.

·         Retractable club and factory manuals

I am returning overseas, so very sensible reserve in the mid-$20,000's.  Clear title.  Sold with Bill of Sale and U.S. Department of State will send you the registration papers once your payment clears (it currently has diplomatic plates, which are not transferrable).

Happy to help with loading for transport at your expense.  Car will not leave my possession until funds have cleared in full.  No paypal payment, other than deposit within 48 hours of close of auction.

No warranty express or implied.  Mileage is a guess not documented. I reserve the right to cancel auction early. Email any questions and I am happy to answer. Car available to inspect by appointment.

Here's why automakers roll out those Texas-themed pickup trucks

Thu, Sep 29 2016

Every year, automakers with a full-size truck link make a big show of the Texas State Fair, usually involving a reveal of a new model. Sometimes they show a whole new truck, and other times a special edition centered on the Lone Star state. While some people might write this off as a quirk of the industry, others might be wondering, "What's the big deal with Texas?" As it turns out, part of the big deal with Texas is big truck sales. According to Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager at AutoPacific, Texas buys more trucks than any other state in the country. It's not a small margin either. Edmunds.com, one in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. The state also accounts for 15 percent of the country's large truck sales, which is more than twice that of California, the second largest truck market in America. Even when you break down sales only in Texas, trucks are a huge piece of the pie - Sullivan says that a quarter of new vehicle sales in Texas are trucks. One in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. But it's not just sales that make truck builders give attention to Texas. As Sullivan explained, "Pickups are life in Texas." Both he and Hugh Milne, marketing and advertising manager for the Chevy Silverado line, said that trucks are key fixtures in Texas society, as both work trucks and luxury vehicles (or Texas Cadillacs as Milne called them). Milne said Texas is so important in the truck market that if you want to be successful in the rest of the country, "you've got to be successful in Texas." As for the State Fair, it has become a prime location for reveals in part because of the importance of the Texas market and because of how big the fair is. Milne also revealed that the State Fair also hosts its own auto show, so it's an ideal venue for a vehicle introduction. So there you have it. Why do truck builders obsess over Texas? It's because Texas obsesses over trucks. When you have one market that loves your product that much, you give it the attention it deserves. Ford earnings take a dive on investment, slowing sales; workers get $6,900 in profit sharing

Thu, Jan 29 2015

Ford Motor Company's pre-tax profits for 2014 took a beating, falling to $6.3 billion, a $2.3-billion drop from 2013, while overall revenues fell from $139.4 billion to $135.8 billion. Net income for 2014, meanwhile, plunged 56 percent, from $7.18 billion to $3.19 billion. Yeah, those aren't great numbers. While Ford's figures are largely down across the board, some of the weaker numbers aren't too difficult to explain away. The company launched 24 vehicles across the globe in 2014, including some of its biggest and most important volume models, like the 2015 F-150, as well as iconic offerings like the new Mustang. The result of this is both increased investment as well as a drop in total sales – US market numbers were down 164,000 units compared to 2013. Recall claims and high warranty costs also did a number on the Blue Oval. "2014 was a solid yet challenging year for Ford - with our investments and a record number of new products launched around the world positioning us for strong growth this year and beyond," Ford CEO Mark Fields said in a statement. Ford's 50,180 UAW workers in the United States will receive profit-sharing checks of $6,900. In some markets, Ford's fortunes were impacted by outside factors. Europe, for example, recorded more sales (up 70,000 units) and higher revenues (up $2.2 billion), but still reported a $443-million pre-tax loss. Blame was placed on the crumbling Russian economy, which has suffered from sanctions and slumping oil prices. Despite its troubles last year, the company still seems bullish on 2015. Ford's pre-tax outlook remains unchanged, as the company expects to make anywhere from $8.5 to $9.5 billion on the back of higher revenue from the company's automotive operations. We expect strong growth and improved financial performance in 2015 driven by our investments in new products and capacity," Ford CFO Bob Shanks said of the company's future.

Ford GT gets sexy shape and EcoBoost power [w/videos]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

American automakers make vehicles of all shapes and sizes, but the one thing they almost invariably share in common is their front-engine layout. Niche offerings from the likes of SSC, Saleen and Vector (and the almost anecdotal Pontiac Fiero) aside, the most notable exception has been the Ford GT. And now it's back. Launched on the floor of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the new Ford GT picks up where the last one left off the better part of a decade ago – similarly taking its cues from the original, Le Mans-winning GT40, but in a less retro, more modern form. Instead of the atmospheric V8 in the original or the supercharged one in the retro revival, the new GT packs a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 nestled in the middle of its wheelbase and driving "more than 600 horsepower" to the rear wheels. Although Ford hasn't revealed the specific output or performance figures, it says the engine – derived from its Daytona Prototype unit and mated to a seven-speed DCT – is its most powerful production EcoBoost ever. Fortunately it's got carbon-ceramic brakes to keep it all in check, packed into 20-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 rubber. The discs aren't all that's made from carbon on the new Ford GT, though: it's built around a carbon monocoque with structural carbon-fiber body panels, but with aluminum sub-frames front and back. Ford designed the new GT with a narrower canopy than its predecessors, cutting the frontal aerodynamic profile and tapering towards the back. It's also equipped with active aero elements including an active rear wing. Upwards swinging doors ought to make ingress and egress easier to and from the cockpit that's fitted with fixed seats, adjustable pedals and F1-style steering wheel and a fully digital instrument cluster. The new GT is set to enter production next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GT40's famous 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. By the time it does, we're sure Ford will let us know just how fast America's newest supercar will be.
