Up for bid is my 1999 F350 XLT Diesel Crew CabTruck.  I have only owned the truck for 2 years and I hate to see her go, but my business has no use for it anymore.

The Goods:

The truck is a 4 door crewcab with tons of space in the cab and is a shortbed (6'10") w/ bed-liner.  The engine runs great and the truck only has 154,000 miles which is nothing for a 7.3 Diesel, which in my opinion is one of the best diesels ever made for a truck.  These engines have been known to last up to 500,000 miles if maintained and are tanks!!  Not many Ford diesels out there in the 1999-2002 year range that have such low mileage!  I have dumped a lot into this truck.  I added a new Softtopper retractable cap on the back last year ($800.00), which is nice for keeping tools and equipment dry and it is sweet because it can be put up and taken down in about 5 minutes!!  A year ago I also replaced all of the glowplugs in the engine and it fires up great in the coldest of weather, it also has a plug in block heater for the coldest of nights.  I also just had a new radiator/ transmission cooler and water pump installed along with a new starter ($2,200.00 of labor/parts!!)  I also installed digital tow controls ($400.00), which are sweet if you ever have to haul heavier loads and need adjust the gain on trailers precisely.  The truck has a 4.5" lift with 34.5" tires and also has a 4.5 inch straigt piped exhaust with digital readout on dash and performance chip, this gives it a nice whistle!  The tires have about 1/3"- 1/2 tread and will last for a while.  I installed all new custom sized shocks on the truck just last year.  The truck has an automatic transmission and has 4WD with manual front locking hubs and the transmission shifts as it should and the 4WD works great with no problems.  The truck has a heavy duty hitch receptacle in the rear and a 8" drop down hitch with 2" ball included, and I also installed a front 10,000 lb hitch a year ago behind the front bumper, which can be used for a ton of things.  I also installed a ram air w/ an S&B re-usable filter which improves mileage and performance a little.

Bads:

Not many bads with this truck, but the paint is not in great condition.  It looks fine on 9/10ths of the visible truck, but there is some clear coat chipping off primarily on the top of the roof (not visible) and it is starting to work it's way down to the doors.  The passenger side rear cab door is the worst of it and you can see it in the pictures I posted.  If I were to keep the truck I would probably just get a cheap paint job at Maaco, or just leave it the way it is as it is a work truck.  There is no visible rust or anything major it is just a surface problem and it has remained the same for the last 2 years.

Overall this truck is in great mechanical condition and is a tank that will last many years for it's next owner.  It is a tank and has been a great workhorse for the last two years!  Good luck bidding!

European jury picks finalists for 2015 Car of the Year

Tue, Dec 16 2014

There are countless Car of the Year awards handed out each year, and naturally, Europe has its own way of doing things. Every year, a panel of jurists representing seven publications in seven different languages and seven different countries get together to name their joint Car of the Year. The panel released a list of 32 candidates back in July, and it has now whittled that list down to seven nominees. The list consists of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the Citroen C4 Cactus (shown), the Ford Mondeo, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Nissan Qashqai, the Renault Twingo and the Volkswagen Passat. Of those seven, only two are available in the US – those being the Mondeo (sold Stateside as the Fusion) and the C-Class. The Passat is an entirely different model in North America, the Qashqai isn't offered here, Citroen and Renault don't even participate in our market and the BMW 2 Series is represented here only by the completely different coupe and convertible. Expect the one and only recipient of the 2015 Car of the Year award to be announced at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, and while you're waiting, you can place your guesses for the eventual winner in Comments. May 2016: FCA wins, Ford and GM stumble on weak car volumes

Wed, Jun 1 2016

The May 2016 sales numbers are in, and it looks as though FCA is getting some vindication for boldly cancelling two slow-selling car models. Meanwhile, Ford saw overall sales dip and GM's May volume took a big dive versus the same month in 2015. While Marchionne's decision to axe the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart has drawn criticism as being short-sighted, it's working for FCA so far. Although the Dart and 200 aren't out of production yet and no capacity has been shifted to crossover or trucks, May's numbers show that the emphasis on Jeep and Ram models makes sense right now. FCA's US sales rose 1 percent last month compared to May 2015, putting the year-to-date total at 955,186 vehicles, an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Standouts included the Jeep Renegade, Compass, and Patriot, and the Fiat 500X. Ram pickup sales were down 3 percent. And your fun fact is that Alfa Romeo sales were up precisely 10 percent, for a total of 44 4Cs sold versus 40 in the same month last year. At FoMoCo, the Ford brand took a hit to the tune of 6.4 percent from May 2015 to 2016, registering 226,190 sales last month. Lincoln showed improvement on its modest numbers, going from 9,174 to 9,807, a 6.9 percent increase. Overall, Ford was down 5.9 percent for the month to 235,997; despite the slump, year-to-date total Ford sales are up 4.2 percent to 1,112,939. Strong sellers included Escape, Expedition, F-Series, and Transit - big stuff. Most small and/or efficient models (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, C-Max) saw sales slides. Fusion sales were also down, likely due to effects of model changeover to the freshened 2017 model. Ford has promised four new crossovers and SUVs by 2020 and if things keep trending this way the company will be able to sell them, but things could change in the next four years. GM saw the worst of it for domestic brands. Retail and fleet sales were down for each of the four divisions, with the May 2016 total dropping 18 percent to 240,450 vehicles. GM's year-to-date sales are down 5.0 percent in 2016 to 1,183,705. Both the Sierra and Silverado were down significantly, and the majority of Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac nameplates saw sales decreases, with both small cars and larger utilities included. Not even big stuff could help GM this month, it seems. We'll have more on the rest of the industry's May sales as those figures trickle in.

Ford will put solid axles under the Bronco as the off-roading gods intended

Wed, Jan 25 2017

We've been wondering what sort of creature the Bronco would be since we first heard of the thing last October, when a union chairman spilled the beans on the SUV and the Ranger pickup. Ford confirmed a 2020 arrival date for the Bronco at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, but at that point pretty much all we were sure of was that the Ranger and Bronco would be returning. The open question would be how hungry Ford was to spoil the Jeep Wrangler's solo party as a compact(ish) off-roader with dual solid axles, since the easiest thing would be to carry over the suspension design of the presumably related international Ford Ranger and its Everest SUV version: independent front suspension with either a leaf- (Ranger) or coil-suspended (Everest) solid rear axle. Enter Dana, the long-time supplier of Jeep stick axles, to confirm that the 2020 Bronco is getting a pair of them. That means solid axles front and rear, just like under a Wrangler. So reports Automotive News, citing an investor presentation from Dana. All signs so far, such as the report that the Bronco would be engineered by the same team in Australia that created the Ranger pickup, indicated that the Bronco would share a platform with the Ranger and thus be body-on-frame. The solid axle confirmation essentially confirms that theory. Some off-road-capable vehicles have paired solid axles with unibody frames, like the Jeep Cherokee (XJ generation) and Grand Cherokee (ZJ and WJ generations), but they are outliers. Generally, if you've got solid axles at both ends, they're going in a vehicle with a ladder frame. It also lends credence to the notion that our Bronco won't simply be an imported Everest, which might be too understated to stand out from lesser crossovers anyways. This is good news if you have Blue Oval in your blood and pine for a modern SUV that'll show up the Jeep guys on the trail. Less directly, it could mean a wholesale assault on the formula that makes Jeeps successful in the first place: the massive aftermarket of off-roading equipment and dress-up bits that appeal to Jeep buyers almost as much as a Trail Rated badge. At a minimum, Bronco enthusiasts can breathe easy that the reborn SUV won't merely be a light-duty crossover with styling "inspired" by true off-roaders. There's still a lot left to learn about the Bronco. Keep up to date with our running summary of everything we know about the returning off-roader.
