NO RESERVE!  HIGHEST BID GETS THE TRUCK!

This is a factory 1979 F350 regular cab truck with a all steel flatbed.  The truck retains it's factory drive train including the very desirable High Pinion Dana 60 front axle (this axle alone is worth $1000-1500).  It has 410 gears with a locker in the rear.  The truck has the factory manual 4 speed transmission and NP205 transfercase.  It just passed Utah's state safety inspection a couple of weeks ago and is current on it's registration.  Clear and clean title in hand with utah license plates and registration.

This drivetrain set up is very desirable.  If you add lift springs to this truck you can run BIG tires reliably on the stock drivetrain without further modification.

The GOOD: Truck starts every time and can be driven anywhere.  4WD works great.  Has engine block heater for cold weather.  Tires and not new, but not needing replaced either.  Set up for bumper or gooseneck towing.  No visible rust showing.  Dual fuel tanks are functional.

The BAD: Body has dents, dings and needs TLC.  Interior is typical for a 1979 Ford - Dash cover is cracked from the sun, bench seat is saggy in the drivers position, speedometer works on and off, e-brake bracket needs to be reattached (but e-brake is otherwise functional), heater doesn't work, and carpet was replaced by some household shag carpet.  Front tank could use a filler hose replacement.  Brakes pull slightly to the left when applied.  Transmission doesn't down shift into 3rd without priming it by trying to put it into 2nd (but it has been that way for a long long time).  Drivers door shuts funny and could use a new hinge, but still latches and opens fine.  The rear passenger mudflap flew off on the highway after I took the pictures.  I am sure there is something I might be forgetting, but like I said - it just passed the Utah state safety inspection and is a registered driver.

THE BOTTOM LINE:  If you are interested in this truck, you likely know that it is a rare truck with a very desirable drivetrain.  It runs great, will go anywhere, and is ready to tackle any job you throw at it.

I wanted to keep this truck around because it is a great work truck, but I have to sell to fund another project I am working on.  If you have questions feel free to contact me and I will respond as soon as possible.

Located in beautiful Moab, UT.  Local pickup or buyer arranged shipping only.  Cashier's check/money order/personal check if shipping or cash in person only.   Buy must wait for personal checks to clear before the vehicle will be released.

Plan a trip for Easter Jeep Safari in Moab to pick this truck up!

Feel free to Call or Text me at (916) 220-3857.  I don't respond to calls Friday night to Saturday night sundown.

Aluminum lightweighting does, in fact, save fuel

Mon, Apr 14 2014

When the best-selling US truck sheds the equivalent weight of three football fullbacks by shifting to aluminum, folks start paying attention. Oak Ridge National Laboratory took a closer look at whether the reduced fuel consumption from a lighter aluminum body makes up for the fact that producing aluminum is far more energy intensive than steel. And the results of the study are pretty encouraging. In a nutshell, the energy needed to produce a vehicle's raw materials accounts for about 10 percent of a typical vehicle's carbon footprint during its total lifecycle, and that number is up from six percent because of advancements in fuel economy (fuel use is down to about 68 percent of total emissions from about 75 percent). Still, even with that higher material-extraction share, the fuel-efficiency gains from aluminum compared to steel will offset the additional vehicle-extraction energy in just 12,000 miles of driving, according to the study. That means that, from an environmental standpoint, aluminum vehicles are playing with the house's money after just one year on the road. Aluminum-sheet construction got topical real quickly earlier this year when Ford said the 2015 F-150 pickup truck would go to a 93-percent aluminum body construction. In addition to aluminum being less corrosive than steel, that change caused the F-150 to shed 700 pounds from its curb weight. And it looks like the Explorer and Expedition SUVs may go on an aluminum diet next. Take a look at SAE International's synopsis of the Oak Ridge Lab's study below. Life Cycle Energy and Environmental Assessment of Aluminum-Intensive Vehicle Design Advanced lightweight materials are increasingly being incorporated into new vehicle designs by automakers to enhance performance and assist in complying with increasing requirements of corporate average fuel economy standards. To assess the primary energy and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) implications of vehicle designs utilizing these materials, this study examines the potential life cycle impacts of two lightweight material alternative vehicle designs, i.e., steel and aluminum of a typical passenger vehicle operated today in North America. LCA for three common alternative lightweight vehicle designs are evaluated: current production ("Baseline"), an advanced high strength steel and aluminum design ("LWSV"), and an aluminum-intensive design (AIV).

Sunday Drive: Rendering the future at Jeep and Ford

Sun, Apr 8 2018

Last week brought us quite a wide variety of automotive news nuggets, and judging by the response of our own readership, the Jeep Wrangler pickup truck led the way. It's not expected to hit the sales floor until April of 2019, which means we've all got an entire year to wait, but that just means we have lots of time to anticipate its arrival. And we do so today with a series of renderings that show what the so-called Scrambler may look like in a few different colors. Another set of renderings depicting a hotly anticipated new vehicle follow just behind. The Baby Bronco – will Ford ante up to the retro-inspired table and call it the Bronco II? – will be one size smaller than the regular-grade Bronco, and we think it'll compete with the Jeep Renegade as a subcompact crossover with some real off-road chops. Moving onto some tuners, both old and new(er), we first present a sweet old Dodge Ram pickup truck tuned by none other than Carroll Shelby himself. The blue and silver striped truck looks so period perfect that it stands out as a star even alongside a quartet of vintage Shelby Mustangs with which it will share space at the Bonhams auction in Greenwich, Conn., this June. And finally we turn our attention to the Hennessey Veliciraptor, an absolute behemoth of a truck. Based on the most excellent Ford Raptor, the Velociraptor ups the crazy quotient with six wheels and 600 hundred horsepower. As always, stay tuned to Autoblog this week for all the latest automotive news. 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate vs. 2022 Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn vs. Ford F-150 Limited | Luxury truck interior face-off

Fri, Oct 22 2021

GMC's new uber-expensive 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate is the latest luxury truck to nudge toward six-figure territory. With demand for upmarket half-tons surging, GMC's otherwise-solid pickup found itself in desperate need of an interior remodel. For 2022, we're getting just that, and it appears ready to take the fight to the segment's best, including the 2022 Ram 1500 Limited and 2022 Ford F-150 Limited. Here's the new Denali Ultimate interior in all of its full-grain, open-pore glory. 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate vs. 2021 GMC Denali  Not only did the material quality and styling both improve greatly, but the new truck also gets a completely different shifter setup (truck buyers don't like column shifters anymore, apparently). It would actually be difficult to overstate the quality of the upgrade here; the photos really speak for themselves. It's also worth noting that in addition to looking significantly more upscale than the model it's succeeding, the new Denali interior also differs a bit more from its Chevy counterpart than its predecessor did. Here's the new Silverado High Country for reference: While some elements do carry over, the entire dash design is different, down to the positioning of the heating and cooling vents. While the main HVAC controls are essentially carried over, note that they're pretty much the only ones. Even the horizontal bar of switches running along the center stack is positioned differently between the two. Yep. This is a pretty big upgrade over the 2021 cabin, and clearly the range-topper in GM's truck hierarchy. But what of the competition? 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate vs. 2022 Ram Limited Longhorn Southfork This one's tough. We're going to have to spend time in them back to back, but the Ram Limited, with its various anniversary editions and other special permutations, is certainly the interior to beat. To our eyes, the Sierra's more horizontal layout is a bit more modern and perhaps luxurious-looking than the more upright cabin treatment of the Ram, but it's tough to say for certain from photos. Both the Denali Ultimate and Ram Limited carry their upscale feel into their back benches too, which is something we can't say quite as confidently about our next contestant.  2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate vs. 2021 Ford F-150 Limited The Ford F-150 Limited holds its own, but it's probably the least photogenic of the models we've looked at here, at least apart from the outgoing Denali.
