1974 Ford F350 Super Camper Special.  460-4v engine, PS, PB, AC, AM/FM Stereo.  3.73 open rear axle.  This truck recently has had the entire brake system rebuilt--new front calipers, pads, brake hoses, rear wheel cylinders, rear brake hose, master cylinder and vacuum booster.   New group 65 battery, new ignition module, all three belts, and bearings replaced in the belt idlers on the engine.   Also has new exhaust on it that turns out in front of the tires on both sides.  Radiator has been replaced at some point in the past and is in excellent condition.  Truck runs, drives and stops excellent.  Has dual fuel tanks and both tanks work and fuel level sender for both tanks works.  Has a class III Reese receiver hitch on the rear.   The truck currently has period correct 16.5" rims and tires on it, but I have a good set of factory 16" rims off of an 80's F350 I will throw in if the buyer wants them (16" tires are alot easier to find and less money).  Tailgate works excellent and opens/closes freely.  Everything on truck works except for the AC--I installed a good compressor on it, but the system needs to be serviced and charged.  Compressor will engage and run perfectly.   The previous owner sprayed gray primer on the spare tire cover on the side of the bed, but there is nothing wrong with it.

The truck could use the floor pans replaced if you were fixing it up and putting carpet in it, but they are solid like they are.  I replaced the broken windshield and rotten window seal, so the leak the rusted out the floors is fixed.    Body is solid, just needs a paint job.  Hood was replaced becasuse a tree limb fell across the original and damaged it.  Inside of the bed has some rust holes in it where the previous owner let it sit for a long time with some trash in the bed.

Located in Mocksville, NC, 1 mile off of I-40.  Local pickup, or you arrange for shipping.

Weekly Recap: Auto execs face life in prison for recall delays under proposed legislation

Sat, 09 Aug 2014

The stiff punishments are part of broader transportation legislation, but clearly McCaskill has automakers in her sights.
Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill threw down the gauntlet this week, proposing a bill that could send auto executives to prison for life if they were found to have delayed a recall. She also wants to eliminate the limit for fines for auto safety violations, which are currently capped at $35 million.

Nuclear-powered concept cars from the Atomic Age

Thu, 17 Jul 2014

In the 1950s and early 60s, the dawn of nuclear power was supposed to lead to a limitless consumer culture, a world of flying cars and autonomous kitchens all powered by clean energy. In Europe, it offered the then-limping continent a cheap, inexhaustible supply of power after years of rationing and infrastructure damage brought on by two World Wars.
The development of nuclear-powered submarines and ships during the 1940s and 50s led car designers to begin conceptualizing atomic vehicles. Fueled by a consistent reaction, these cars would theoretically produce no harmful byproducts and rarely need to refuel. Combining these vehicles with the new interstate system presented amazing potential for American mobility.
But the fantasy soon faded. There were just too many problems with the realities of nuclear power. For starters, the powerplant would be too small to attain a reaction unless the car contained weapons-grade atomic materials. Doing so would mean every fender-bender could result in a minor nuclear holocaust. Additionally, many of the designers assumed a lightweight shielding material or even forcefields would eventually be invented (they still haven't) to protect passengers from harmful radiation. Analyses of the atomic car concept at the time determined that a 50-ton lead barrier would be necessary to prevent exposure.

Ward's reveals annual 10 Best Engines list for 2013

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Ward's Auto has released its annual 10 Best Engines award winners. The 2013 list covers the full width and breadth of the internal combustion spectrum, from a spate of efficient four-cylinders to the most powerful production V8 on the planet. As always, the entries must be available in a production vehicle in the first quarter of 2013 with an MSRP of less than $55,000. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from the Audi S5 held on for the fourth consecutive year, and BMW earned two spots on the list with its turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and turbo 3.0-liter inline-six.
Ford pulled in two awards for its 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and and the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500. Honda matched BMW and Ford with two wins of its own. Wards awarded the 2.4-liter four-cylinder from the Honda Accord Sport as well as the 3.5-liter V6 from the Honda Accord. Chrysler, General Motors and Subaru each garnered a spot on the list as well for the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500, the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Cadillac ATS and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder the Subaru BRZ, respectively.
