2001 Ford F-350 Superduty 7.3L Turbodiesel Shortbed Crewcab aka "Mass Transit"

The 7.3L engine is well known for reliability and endurance...only 124,508 miles driven and never been in an accident.

This has been a great truck for me, built for camping, exploring and road trips. It has a raised platform in the bed with comfortable foam pads to sleep on with underneath storage. The canopy has a place to hang clothes (dry or air out when camping), in the bed a step stool to get in easier as well as reading lights and 3 DC power ports to plug in electronics. Yes, it comes with 3/8" chains for all 4 tires in preparation for nasty winters up north. Chains alone were $1000 and of course, never used.

It has been very reliable and has a great entertainment system, the amplifiers and subwoofers pump out very clean sound. The powerful 7.3L turbo diesel engine and strong transmission have both been treated very well. Tan leather interior is in excellent shape. From the 12,000 LB winch and 52 gallon fuel tank to the multiple off-road lights and ground clearance - this vehicle is made to get the owner almost anywhere in all sorts of weather in pretty decent comfort.  Plus she looks damn good too.

Issues
Small parking lot ding on the lower driver's door.
Little bit of surface rust on the powdercoating of the traction bars and pre-run bars on the bumpers. Shocks have some too, all from salted winter roads up in Canada, about normal for age. Shocks probably should be replaced in 2-3 years anyway though. It is all cosmetic as everything functions fantastic.

I have receipts for every bit of maintenance, accessories and upgrade performed since I bought the vehicle in 2008. All these receipts are scanned online and can be shared to serious buyers via Dropbox if you'd like to audit them.

Will show on appointment only and can arrange for mechanics inspection as well. I have a clear title on this machine. Sorry but I am not interested in trades or owner financing.

VIN: 3FTSW31FX1MA12103 (there is a picture uploaded of the VIN too)

All the details on Plug In 2014 electric vehicle conference you could ever want

Wed, Aug 6 2014

One of the best parts of the Plug In 2014 Conference in San Jose, CA last week was getting to listen in on thoughts about the state of the plug-in vehicle industry from people who have been involved with it for ages. They bristle when you call them the "Old Guard" (learned that one the hard way), but these are the people who have been through a number of ups and downs with plug-in vehicles, so they've got what we call perspective. Their knowledge was on full display in the three plenary sessions, which the Plug In Conference organizers have given us permission to share with you. Each is at least 90 minutes long, so make sure to set some time aside to enjoy the discussions after you download them (any help with making them streamable would be appreciated). Follow us below to see what we've got to offer. Opening Plenary (audio link). "The Road Ahead – Delivering on a Vision for Sustainable Transportation." Moderated by Mark Duvall (director of energy utilization at EPRI, the Electric Power Research Institute, and a long-time EV advocate), this panel featured: Jack Broadbent, Executive Officer / APCO, Bay Area Air Quality Management District Pat Romano, President & Chief Executive Officer, ChargePoint, Inc. Aaron Johnson, Senior Director, Customer Programs, Pacific Gas and Electric Company Brendan Jones, Director, EV Sales Operations & Infrastructure Deployment, Nissan North America, Inc. David W. Cash, Commissioner, MassDEP Dan Sperling, Director, Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California, Davis Highlights: Educating drivers to "get over the gas station" is a key strategy, how Level 2 and DC Fast Charging are really "a new paradigm," that there have been well over 214,000 EVs sold in US as of July 2014 and where Nissan sees huge potential for more EV sales (Northeast US and medium-size cities like St. Louis and Pittsburgh). Wednesday Morning Plenary (audio link). "Getting to the Mass Market – A Discussion of Ideas for Widespread PEV Adoption." Moderated by John Gartner, research director for smart transportation at Navigant Research.

Ford, Renault have surprises in store for Le Mans

Tue, Jun 9 2015

All those prototype and GT racers won't be the only attraction catching our eye at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend. Two major automakers have also confirmed that they've got new metal to unveil. And while they're not saying exactly what they'll be, we've got some pretty good ideas. First up is Ford, which has announced a "major Ford Performance news announcement" on Friday. Chairman Bill Ford, CEO Mark Fields, and product development chief Raj Nair will be on hand for the announcement set to take place on Friday at 10:00 AM Eastern. The Blue Oval isn't saying just what it has in store, but the widespread speculation has been that it will present a racing version of the new Ford GT at Le Mans a good half century since the original GT40 raced there. Meanwhile, Renault has announced that it is marking the 60th anniversary of the Alpine marque at Le Mans this Saturday. The French automaker has been working on reviving the dormant marque, and looks poised to finally reveal its new sports car at its iconic home endurance race this weekend. Tipped to be called the Alpine AS1, the new sports car will bring the marque back out of retirement in a more real way than the ELMS-winning LMP2 prototype ever could. Expect it to be based on the mid-engined chassis underpinning the Renault RS 01 spec racer, but built for the road. Leno drives Henry Ford II's all-original '52 Ferrari 212 Barchetta

Tue, 17 Jun 2014

The story of the relationship between Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari is absolutely fascinating. The two great men of the auto industry had what appeared to be a burgeoning friendship until Ferrari pulled out of a deal to sell his company to Ford in the '60s. The latest car featured in Jay Leno's Garage is a 1952 Ferrari 212 Barchetta that tells the very beginnings of that story.
This Prancing Horse was a gift to Ford from Enzo when the two companies were first thinking about merging, according to the curator of the Petersen Automotive Museum. Ferrari really wanted to show off its best so instead of the 212's normal V12, this car was fitted with the larger 2.7-liter unit from a Ferrari 225. The car has been almost unaltered since then. It still wears its original paint, and it's tires date back to 1954.
The great thing about the Petersen is that unlike a lot of auto museums, the people there actually drive the cars and keep them in working order. Once on the road with Leno behind the wheel, this Ferrari really sings. Unfortunately, he can't open it up too much because the 60-year-old tires really hold things back. Scroll down to watch this amazing piece of automotive history and learn it's possible effect on the styling of the original Ford Thunderbird.
