I am offering for auction a 2002 Ford F250 Super Duty 4x4 Lariat crew cab with 7.3 Turbo-diesel and auto transmission. It has power leather heated seats, power steering, power brakes, power windows, cold air, tow package, off road package, cold weather package, alloy wheels, an ATC Astro fiberglass shell, factory 6 CD player, and a vinyl bedliner. It has 162,300 miles (mileage will vary some, as I'm still driving it). I'm the 2nd owner (inherited it in a divorce from the original owner) and am selling it as it's just more truck than I need. Truck has a Gear Vendor overdrive unit attached to the transmission which was just rebuilt within the past 1000 miles (a $3000.00 option added in 2007). Also within the past 500 miles the truck has had new brakes all the way around (new pads, rotors turned, calipers rebuilt, fluid flushed and bled), new exhaust, steering shock replaced, transmission flushed and serviced, engine oil & filter changed, and the fuel filter changed. I've been around this truck for 7 years and have never had it fail to start in the winter (without ever plugging it in). Tires are at 50%. This truck was operated by a smoker but has not been smoked in for over a year. Truck came out of Iowa originally and is not undercoated.

Mechanically the truck runs great. I would not hesitate to head for either coast line with it in a heartbeat. The physical issues are that the clear coat on the top of the driver's front fender is peeling (a known Ford issue), the leather on the outer edge of the driver's seat is worn off and the seatback has a split seam, there's a small tear in the leather of the passenger seat, there's a small ding in the rear passenger quarterpanel (backing a trailer too tight), the hard plastic trim on the rear bumper has a couple dings in it (again from backing a trailer too tight), some rust on the bottom of the driver's door (I never noticed the drain holes got plugged), the tailgate has been repainted and is not the same exact color as the truck, some small rock chips and minor scratches in the paint (pretty normal for an 11 year old truck). The truck has never been in an accident as far as I know.

Please ask all questions prior to bidding. I would be happy to give you my phone number if you would like to talk to me about the truck. I reserve the right to end this auction early as the truck is for sale locally. I will not end the auction early even if there is a local offer, if there are any bids on the truck above the reserve price. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of auction end and make arrangements for payment at that time. A $500.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of auctions conclusion. The remainder is due within 7 days of auctions end. If no contact is made within 24 hours I reserve the right to re-list the truck, sell it to the next highest bidder, or sell the truck otherwise. Since most banks and credit unions don't finance vehicles with more than 100K miles, please verify that your financial institution accepts the year and mileage of this vehicle before bidding. Pickup arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer. All non-paying high bidders will be reported to Ebay and negative feedback will be posted.

Thank you so much for taking your time to check out my auction. I wish you the best of luck in all your Ebay bidding!!

Chevy says not to look at the 2019 Silverado's fuel economy rating

Tue, Nov 20 2018

The 2019 Chevy Silverado is hitting dealerships soon, and one of the most notable changes for the new full-size pickup is the addition of a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four. The engine replaces the naturally-aspirated 4.3-liter V6 in volume consumer models like the Silverado LT and promises more power, less weight and — most importantly — better fuel economy. The thing is, the gains in efficiency haven't been as dramatic as some might have hoped, especially when stacked up against competitors from Ford and Ram. As Automotive News reports, GM's response is a little murky. First, let's talk numbers. We're pulling all figures from FuelEconomy.gov, the official U.S. government source for fuel ratings. Fuel economy numbers on trucks vary greatly based on a number of factors. Bed and cab configuration play a part, but so does a four-wheel-drive system. You also have to factor in tires, transmissions, rear-axle gearing, hybrid systems and cylinder deactivation. Things like that can make the difference between best- and worst-in-class. The EPA's website doesn't give enough information a lot of the time, so there's really no easy way to compare apples-to-apples. First, take a look at the ratings for the 2019 Silverado. A 2.7-liter model with two-wheel drive is rated 20 city, 23 highway and 21 combined. That's both better and worse than a two-wheel drive 2018 Silverado with the 4.3-liter V6 (18 city, 24 highway and 20 combined). The updated 2019 Silverado with a 4.3-liter V6 has yet to be rated. With less weight and a smaller engine, many hoped Chevy would make bigger gains. It's unusual to see any decrease in a fuel economy metric these days. GM says that it's not done tuning the new 2.7-liter engine, so fuel economy could theoretically increase. Expanding further, a V8-powered 2019 Silverado (17 city, 24 highway and 19 combined) actually gets better highway fuel economy than a turbocharged four-cylinder powered truck in certain configurations, even if the latter has a better overall average. But that's only with two-wheel drive, the 8-speed transmission and cylinder deactivation. A Silverado with the 5.3-liter V8 and a 6-speed automatic is rated at 15 city, 22 highway and 17 combined. The biggest issue with the Silverado 2.7-liter doesn't come from within GM itself but from Ford and Ram. GM cites the Ford F-150 with the 3.3-liter V6 and the Ram 1500 with the 3.6-liter V6 as the closest competitors to its new 2.7-liter inline-four.

Ford says utility vehicles are key to global growth

Tue, 26 Nov 2013

While most of us believe that small, fuel efficient cars are the key to global expansion for US automakers, Jim Farley, Ford's vice president of Global Marketing, thinks otherwise. Last week, we attended an exclusive sneak preview of the Ford Edge Concept in advance of the Los Angeles Auto Show, and Farley told us that it's actually utility vehicles that will help the Blue Oval gain market share overseas. "There is no other segment in our industry that is growing like utilities," he said. "We expect over the next five years this full family of [utility] vehicles to really drive our growth as a company."
And Farley has the numbers to back it up, too. Ford projects overall automotive sales to grow 23 percent from 2012 to 2017, but the company's utility vehicles are expected to boom by an impressive 41 percent during that same period. Much of that growth will be in China, where Ford estimates its utility sales will explode. "The biggest opportunity for us globally for utilities is in China," Farley said. "China utility growth is expected to more than double from where it is today to 2017, which isn't that far away." Most astounding is that Ford projects its own utility sales in China will eventually increase by more than 2,000 percent when smaller crossovers, such as the EcoSport and Kuga (sold as the Escape in North America), and the Edge and Explorer, are factored in.
Ford's VP also expects utilities to lead the way in the struggling European market. "With all the difficulties of the European market, there is one segment that has actually expanded in volume over the last several years even though the market is way down, and that's utilities," Farley told us. Ford estimates that their utility sales will grow 65 percent in Europe from 2012-2017. "The utility segment is projected to grow we think about thirty percent between now and 2017 in Europe, and we think we are going to grow twice that rate as a brand," Farley continued.

Bring back the Bronco! Trademarks we hope are actually (someday) future car names

Tue, Mar 17 2015

Trademark filings are the tea leaves of the auto industry. Read them carefully – and interpret them correctly – and you might be previewing an automaker's future product plans. Yes, they're routinely filed to maintain the rights to an iconic name. And sometimes they're only for toys and clothing. But not always. Sometimes, the truth is right in front of us. The trademark is required because a company actually wants to use the name on a new car. With that in mind, here's a list of intriguing trademark filings we want to see go from paperwork to production reality. Trademark: Bronco Company: Ford Previous Use: The Bronco was a long-running SUV that lived from 1966-1996. It's one of America's original SUVs and was responsible for the increased popularity of the segment. Still, it's best known as O.J. Simpson's would-be getaway car. We think: The Bronco was an icon. Everyone seems to want a Wrangler-fighter – Ford used to have a good one. Enough time has passed that the O.J. police chase isn't the immediate image conjured by the Bronco anymore. Even if we're doing a wish list in no particular order, the Bronco still finds its way to the top. For now (unfortunately), it's just federal paperwork. Rumors on this one can get especially heated. The official word from a Ford spokesman is: "Companies renew trademark filings to maintain ownership and control of the mark, even if it is not currently used. Ford values the iconic Bronco name and history." Trademarks: Aviator, AV8R Company: Ford Previous Use: The Aviator was one of the shortest-run Lincolns ever, lasting for the 2003-2005 model years. It never found the sales success of the Ford Explorer, with which it shared a platform. We Think: The Aviator name no longer fits with Lincoln's naming nomenclature. Too bad, it's better than any other name Lincoln currently uses, save for its former big brother, the Navigator. Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree, though. Ford has made several customized, aviation themed-Mustangs in the past, including one called the Mustang AV8R in 2008, which had cues from the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It sold for $500,000 at auction, and the glass roof – which is reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit – helped Ford popularize the feature. Trademark: EcoBeast Company: Ford Previous Use: None by major carmakers.
