Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a bit of a dyno issue

Tue, 28 May 2013

We're of the mind that each and every dyno should come with Murphy's Law painted in big, visible letters down the side. For every ten successful dyno runs out there, it seems there's one where events to horribly wrong. Take, for example, the video below. The clip shows what happens when a Ford Shelby GT500 and a mobile dyno have a bit of a disagreement at the Performance Expo 24 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. We won't spoil the results for you, but we will say there's some substantial carnage involved.
It's unclear just how much damage ensues from the dust up or whether anyone was harmed in the incident, but from the looks of things, everyone made it out without serious injury. If only we could say the same for the machines involved. Check out the video below.

Ford Focus ST checks into Jay Leno's Garage

Mon, 23 Sep 2013

In a change of pace from the high-end vehicles that often appear in Jay Leno's Garage, Ford sends its hottest hatchback (in the US, at least), the 252-horsepower Focus ST, to be featured on Leno's show. Accompanying the five-door hatch is its chief engineer, Jamal Hameedi.
Riding on stylish 18-inch wheels with summer tires and with a spoiler that doubles as a lunch tray, Hameedi and Leno walk us through the finer points of what makes the ST special, which also includes bigger brakes, torque vectoring, a manual transmission and, of course, 252 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque from the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which is made possible by 21 psi of turbocharged boost.
Watch the video below to see what Leno thinks of the global Focus ST.

Autoblog Minute: Ford Ranger may return to US

Wed, Aug 26 2015

Is Ford planning to bring back its midsize Ranger pickup to the US? Autoblog's Adam Morath reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Is Ford planning to bring back its midsize Ranger pickup to the U.S? I'm Adam Morath, and this is your Autoblog Minute. The Detroit News reports that Ford is planning to build its Ranger Pickup truck at the Michigan Assembly Plant in 2018, citing unnamed sources with knowledge of Ford's plans during its ongoing negotiations with the UAW. Autoblog reached out to Ford for comment. [00:00:30] Quote: "We will move production of the next-generation Ford Focus and C-MAX, which currently are built at Michigan Assembly Plant, beginning in 2018. We actively are pursuing future vehicle alternatives to produce at Michigan Assembly and will discuss this issue with UAW leadership as part of the upcoming negotiations." The 2011 Ranger was the last model-year available in the U.S., though Ford currently sells its redesigned Ranger overseas, including in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. [00:01:00] With pickup sales on the rise, and the recent critical success of GM's Chevy Colorado midsize truck, the time may be right to revive the Ranger, but compact and midsize trucks only make up a small percentage of sales in America. Truck fans out there, let us know what you think: Can the Ford Ranger continue to revive the compact and midsize pickup market in the U.S? Or, will full-size work trucks like the F-150 continue to dominate? Sound off in the comments. For Autoblog, I'm Adam Morath.
