What we have here is a wonderful 1951 Ford F-1 pick up, "Effie" is her name.  She started life as my uncles father in laws farm truck.  When he passed the truck was left to rot in my Uncles field behind his house.  My Dad and I purchased it from my Aunt and the restoration began.  What started as a plan to just  clean her up and make her a fun putt around truck ended up becoming a true frame off restoration that my father and I did together.

For the most part this truck is factory stock with a few nice upgrades, the most obvious being the paint.  Back in 51 she rolled out of the factory in that lovely shade of sea foam green/blue.  We decided that she would look better in what you see here, 2 tone silver and charcoal and boy does she attract attention.  Other upgrades include:
Tinted Glass, not film but true tinted glass
Seat belts
New wire harness and conversion to 12 volts from 6 volts
Over size radiator
New bed and tailgate with select oak bed and polished stainless steel bed strips.
New running boards

She still runs a complete rebuilt original 239CI flat head V-8 and the original 3 speed standard transmission.  In fact the entire drive train is from the factory.  Everything has been either checked and / or rebuilt by professional early ford mechanics.   She also still wears the original factory fenders (after some pretty significant rust repairs) and all the original factory chrome trim.  There are exactly 2 new pieces of chrome and they are the points on the side of the hood, they were just to pitted to repair.  The rest has been either painstakingly polished (you do not want to know how many hrs I spent at the polishing wheel to bring it back) or it was stripped and re-chromed.  All that bright and shiny chrome comes thanks to this truck being a "Delux" model.  That means besides the chrome, she came from the factory with both a radio, interior door panels, head liner, rubber floor mat and a heater!  Yes, it is true, the base model F1 trucks from ford did not include heaters.  Effie did, and hers works like a charm!  All the door panels and headliner as well as the floor mat are new.  The radio does not work.  It did in the beginning but when we converted to 12 volts, I forgot to install the transformers for the radio and fried the vacuum tubes.  Should not be to expensive to repair.

The other bad:  Last fall the spedo cable broke, I have not had the time nor inclination to repair it.  Once again, should not be to difficult.  Also the paint on the running boards is peeling in a few places and there is some surface rust showing on them.  The body is straight, there is no rust, and the paint is good to excellent but there are a few scratches and rubs in it.  Most could be polished out but like the radio and spedo cable.  , there just has not been the time or inclination to do the work.  Also the wood in the bed could use another coat of varnish. I have tried to show all the bad as well as the good in the pictures.

The truck has an actual 66,170 miles.  Yes - that is actual.  Remember, we know the history of this truck and this was verified by the mechanic who did our engine rebuild and checked out our transmission.  Only 4000 miles since restoration, which is the reason we are selling her.  The lucky buyer will also receive the ford factory manuals and a top quality cover made just for this truck.

This truck attracts attention everywhere I take her, I had 4 different people stop and check her out while I was taking these pictures.

Shipping - I have never shipped a vehicle before but I am happy to work with the buyer to have it shipped once the funds are deposited and have cleared.  Feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to answer them all.

2015 F-150 launch to curb Ford profits?

Thu, 30 Jan 2014

Ford is making a big bet on aluminum with its new 2015 F-150, and it's possible that the decision will hurt the company financially, at least in the short term. After earning a record $8.6 billion in 2013, the Blue Oval does not expect to set another record in 2014. According to Automotive News, that's "largely attributable to F Series," says Bob Shanks, Ford's Chief Financial Officer.
To retool for the new F-150, Ford will idle its Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan for 11 weeks and the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri for 2 weeks. "3 of the 13 overall weeks occur during what normally is our summer shutdown timeframe," said Mike Levine, Ford Trucks Communication Manager, in an email to Autoblog. The extra 10 weeks will be preparing for the more aluminum-intensive construction for the trucks and will mean over 2 months of no F-150s being made. For comparison's sake, Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne just confirmed that the 200 plant in Sterling Heights, MI will be down for 30 days to retool for the new model, but obviously there are many more F-150 production variables than for the midsize sedan.
Levine notes that Ford is already running three shifts at both plants, and says the automaker has plans to ensure that there is adequate supply of the full-size pickups during the retooling process. The company does not want to suffer a shortage of the vehicle that accounted for 31-percent of its 2013 US sales and an even bigger percentage of its profits.

We test the 2016 Ford F-150 Pro Trailer Backup Assist

Thu, May 21 2015

There are some automotive tasks that are more or less impossible the first time you attempt them, no matter your skill level. Remember the first time you had to back a trailer into position? Yeah, you'd have more luck disarming a nuclear bomb than getting the trailer where you're aiming. Ford is preparing to debut a technology that takes the mystery out of reversing a trailer, with the new Pro Trailer Backup Assist. Available on the entire 2016 F-150 range, the system essentially allows owners to drive their trailers by way of a dash-mounted knob. Turn the knob and the steering wheel automagically turns to the correct angle, leading the trailer in the desired direction. The steering wheel twirls about as needed, although drivers still have direct control of the accelerator and brake pedals, much as they do with Ford's Enhanced Active Park Assist system. Ford has spent eight years developing the system, the company's engineers told us. Drivers will need to measure their trailers a certain way and fit the checked reference sticker you can see in the gallery, although once a measurement is stored in the system, it can easily be recalled using the display in the instrument cluster. The system can stow the measurements for 10 trailers, and can accommodate tow-behinds up to 33 feet long. As of right now, though, the PTBA can't work with gooseneck trailers or fifth-wheels, although we're betting Ford is hard at work to accommodate those more substantial setups. "Pro Trailer Backup Assist is a smart solution to save time and increase productivity for our customers," Doug Scott, Ford Truck's marketing manager, said in the attached statement. "Instead of struggling to back up their trailer, they can spend more time on the job or enjoying the lake." We took part in a hands-on demo of the new system off the Detroit River, near Grosse Ile, MI. Full disclosure, we didn't back the trailer into the water, (your author had no interest in potentially damaging the roughly $50,000 boat/trailer Ford brought in for the test). We did, however, conduct a brief test in the safe confines of a nearby parking lot. Our immediate impression of this technology is that it will be a boon to novices or first-time towers, a group of which your author is a member. It takes the mystery out of backing up a trailer, and while there's still a learning curve involved, it's significantly easier than doing things the old-fashioned way.

Porsche 911 tops a list of must-have classics, but No. 2 is more of a surprise

Wed, Aug 9 2023

No surprise here: In Europe, the Porsche 911 is the most sought-after classic car. Surprise here: Slip-streaming the 911 in the most sought-after chart compiled by the Car & Classic marketplace is the Ford Mustang. Using the Google search engine as a means to pick the winners, as well as the average prices achieved on the “Car and Classic” website, the venerable 911 was tagged 1.45 million times per month according to data stretching back 15 years. The number of 911Â’s sold though the C&C marketplace was 21,141, at an average price of 58,409 pounds, or $74,300. FordÂ’s pony car, still a popular choice for buyers in Europe, placed second on the list with 1.2 million monthly searches. The average sales price over 15 years was 31,107 pounds ($39,570), and the number of older Mustangs sold reached a total of 8,332. Models that also finished among the charted top 10 include the Land Rover Range Rover, the Corvette, the ultra-classic British favorite Jaguar E-Type and the BMW 3 Series. “Whilst a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS could set you back the best part of GBP500,000 ($636,000), there are many more affordable models, which bring the average sale price of a 911 on Car & Classic to GBP58,000 ($73,800) – the third highest average selling price of any make and model on the site,” explained Dale Vinten of Car & Classic. According to the site, the Jaguar fetched the highest average selling price: a whopping 89,000 pounds, or $113,000. But thatÂ’s peanuts compared to a Series 1 Roadster in excellent condition, said Vinten. For that, “you can expect to spend up to GBP250,000 ($318,000), A Series 2 or 3 will cost less, as they are not as desirable, but in decent condition you can expect to pay around GBP40,000-GBP50,000. Even a barn find 1969 E-Type Series 2 Roadster can set you back to the tune of GBP33,000 ($42,000)." Launched in 2005, Car & Classic is among EuropeÂ’s most popular classic car clearinghouses. It also runs a stand-alone auction site.
