Model Overview | |
Like last model year, all 2010 Ford Expeditions are available in either standard-length or the extended-length EL. There are four different models available: XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited and King Ranch. All trims are powered by a 5.4L Triton-V8 engine with Flex Fuel capability and 3-valve Variable Cam Timing. The engine can deliver 310 horsepower at 5100 rpm and 365 pounds-feet of torque at 3600 rpm. All Expeditions come standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission. All Expeditions are available in either rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive powertrain. The Expedition has a tough, fully-boxed frame for long-term durability in towing and hauling. It also has an independent rear suspension, which gives it a better ride than many other truck-based SUVs. Variable boost power steering also improves maneuverability. The 6-speed automatic transmission, with a wider gear ratio, has smaller steps between gears than the commonly used 4-speed automatic and offers improved shift quality, faster acceleration and improved fuel economy. Ford's exclusive AdvanceTrac with RSC is now joined by standard Trailer Sway Control, and the two systems work together to detect trailer sway and apply precise braking or reduce engine torque as needed. The Expedition can tow up to 9,200 pounds when properly equipped. Both standard and EL Expedition models have three rows of seating, and the second row is available either in a 40/20/40-split bench or two captain's chairs. On the EL, the third row is not only roomier but easier to access, thanks to larger rear doors. Both rows of seats fold flat with the touch of a button. Overall, the EL is nearly 15 inches longer than the standard-length model and rides on a wheelbase that is a foot longer. The EL also has more cargo space behind the third row: 24 cubic feet more than the standard-length model.Standard safety equipment includes seat-mounted front side air bags with head-protecting Safety Canopy side-curtain air bags. These features are part of Ford's Personal Safety System, which includes seat belt pre-tensioners, load limiting retractors, driver seat position sensing, crash severity sensing, SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft System, Ford's SOS Post Crash Alert System, tire pressure monitoring system and traction control.Standard equipment for 2010 includes the Easy Fuel Capless fuel-filler system (an industry-exclusive feature that self-seals without a traditional fuel cap). Other standard equipment includes an anti-theft perimeter alarm system and second-row heated seats.Standard equipment on the XLT includes cruise control, power heated mirrors, AM/FM single CD/MP3 player, audio input jack and auxiliary power outlet. The Eddie Bauer trim adds unique paint and exterior trim, special badging, a chrome-trimmed interior console, dual-zone climate control, steering wheel controls, rearview mirror with memory, trip computer, entertainment system, integrated turn signal mirrors, adjustable pedals, leather seats and seat memory. The Limited trim adds as standard rain-sensing wipers, remote trunk release, power-folding mirrors, rear parking aid, power lift gate, backup camera, chrome wheels and passenger lumbar. On the King Ranch, standard equipment includes woodgrain interior trim and other luxury interior features, including high-quality Chaparral leather seats and trim. Standout options across the lineup include a navigation system, power moonroof, second-row captain's chairs, premium AM/FM in-dash with 6-CD/MP3 player and subwoofer, illuminated entry with approach lamps, rear-seat DVD system, and Power Code remote start.SYNC and SIRIUS Travel Link are available on the XLT and standard on Eddie Bauer, Limited and King Ranch trim levels. |

Detroit Three autoworkers could get huge bonuses
Mon, 06 Jan 2014For a long time, being a line worker for one of the Detroit Three has meant living with an uncertain future. With the health of American automakers on the rise, though, things are also starting to look up for the men and women building the cars. The latest sign that things aren't bad? Big profit-sharing checks.
According to The Detroit News, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler could end up paying over $800 million to 130,000 workers as part of a profit-sharing plan. According to The News, the economic impact of these profits in Michigan alone could exceed $400 million, besting the NFL's Super Bowl, MLB's All-Star Game and the NHL's Winter Classic for their economic impact.
This is the third straight year the Detroit Three have issued profit-sharing checks to UAW employees, and for many workers, the checks are as close as they'll get to a raise, due to the most recent contract between the union and the manufacturers. On average, employees at GM and Ford receive $1 for every $1 million in North American (not just the US) pre-tax profits. Chrysler, meanwhile, gets a similar deal, although the Auburn Hills-based company calculates profit sharing using 85 percent of the brand's global profits.
Ford CEO told Trump 1 million jobs at stake because of fuel economy regs
Sat, Jan 28 2017Bloomberg is reporting that Mark Fields, Ford's CEO, pushed President Donald Trump for market-driven national fuel economy standards, and that up to a million jobs could be at stake if those national regulations didn't take consumer expectations into account. Fields was reporting on his conversation with Trump in remarks made at the National Automobile Dealers Association in New Orleans, Bloomberg reports. The report also states that he and fellow CEOs Mary Barra of GM and Sergio Marchionne of FCA aren't seeking to eliminate fuel economy standards altogether, but rather to make them more flexible. Bloomberg reports that Fields didn't cite the studies he was referring to in support of his job loss figures, so we can't independently verify Fields' math at this time. But his push to stop selling cars consumers don't want – that is to say, more hybrids and EVs than consumer demand supports right now – is clear. We've already reported on that. To level an educated guess at what will happen next, Trump seems likely to reduce the stringent 2025 fuel economy targets, perhaps freezing them at current levels. The automakers are already invested in producing vehicles that meet current standards, and they also have to think about foreign markets like Europe that aren't likely to relax standards below current levels. If you consider economies of scale, automakers are likely to ask for federal standards that match global standards for their largest markets as closely as possible. We'll see if Trump buys Fields' math, but Ford isn't hedging its bets. Backing out of the Mexican assembly plant cost the company $200 million – not a huge sum compared to the total value of Ford, a massive company which had its second best year ever, but still an important gesture to Trump about Ford's priorities. American automakers fall in latest Fortune 500 rankings
Fri, 10 May 2013Not that it means anything beyond bragging rights, but if you're fixated on the positions of domestic automakers on the annual Fortune 500 list, both General Motors and Ford are still on it but they've slipped a couple of notches. The list ranks American companies and they're ordered solely by revenue. GM, fifth last year, came in seventh, while Ford fell from ninth to tenth even though both companies saw small gains in annual revenue.
GM's $152.3 billion in revenue was less than a third of that of the first company on the list: Wal-Mart, which regained the title from Exxon Mobil. Berkshire Hathaway and Apple are the firms that moved GM down. Ford, displaced by energy company Valero, had $134.3 billion in revenue.
On a side note, profitability isn't a factor, but both GM and Ford were down in this year's list compared to last year's: GM declined from $9.2 billion to $6.2 billion, Ford fell from $20.2 billion to $5.6 billion. If profits were included, Exxon Mobil would probably still be king: although the energy company made almost $20 billion less in revenue than Wal-Mart's $469.2 billion, it posted $44.9 billion in profit compared to Wal-Mart's $17 billion.
