1973 - Ford Bronco on 2040-cars
Ferndale, Michigan, United States
Ford : Bronco Sport First, let me just say that you'll get a very honest opinion of this Bronco and feel free to check my over 2,200 all positive comments in my feedback profile. Secondly, I'll be up front and tell you that this Bronco was up for 29K and I ended up purchasing it as a frame off restored, "turn key" vehicle. Here's what really irked me and needs to be finished: The gauge cluster was rebuilt, but he speedometer was obviously not hooked up The high/low light switch is just dangling by a wire and needs to be mounted (see picture) The rubber seals needs to be installed on the doors The driver's door doesn't have an arm rest (I was supposed to receive it in the mail, but nothing has come) The back seat has no arm rests (Also supposedly in the mail) The new gas tank wasn't tightened down (I'll tighten the strap myself) A knob fell off on the floor (I'll put that back on with an allen wrench) I'd repaint the doors, as they are a shade off the rest of the truck The emergency brake wasn't hooked up (he told me it just needed to welded back on the frame) He didn't attach the passenger side wiper arm (I do have it thankfully!) I know this is all small potatoes stuff for those who love, drive and fix Bronco's, but I'm only the first two of those things and thought I was getting a truck that was thoughtfully restored. Quite honestly, it seems to have been slapped together for a quick sale. What a shame, it's really a nice truck that should have received better treatment in the restoration process. Okay that written, here's what was done in the restoration process: New Original color Sequoia Brown base/ clear coat paint 302 with Edelbrock intake and 4 barrel carb B.C. Broncos shorty headers with Magnaflow exhaust B.C. Broncos A.C. Rhino Lined floors in matching Sequoia Brown color Newly recovered parchment colored front and rear seat New windshield and rubber New Rampage "spice" colored soft top Custom front and rear bumpers with tire carrier Pro Comp Wheels and BFG AT2 Tires 31" HID Projector Headlights with angel eyes and devil eyes New Parchment seat belts Wild Horses 3.5" suspension lift and 1" body lift New "ventless" hood New tail light, turn signal lenses and rebuilt gauge cluster New window track and felt kit from Wild Horses Rebuilt Vent Windows Power Disc Brakes As you can see in the pictures, this Bronco was a frame off restoration and the frame was beautifully powder coated and you can see how solid the body is, including the uncut fenders! The motor runs strong with no leaks or smoke and she starts, stops, shifts and tacks down the road with no issues at all. It runs so great and has so much potential, I was considering taking it to Brian at Build a Bronco in Albion and asking him to finish the truck and put a hard top on it. In fact, I do love all the options, including the brand new air conditioning unit, power disc brakes and power steering, as it's a tough combo to find in the early year Broncos. In addition, there's all new bushings on the front end, the hood was actually installed with nice hydraulic lifts and the interior looks great. Someone who is willing to do the finishing touches will certainly be getting a Bronco that worth well into the 30's, as it will need nothing once it's finished.

How that awesome Mustang R/C car chase vid was made
Tue, 06 Aug 2013We've reported on a few R/C car chase videos in the past. One in particular that stands out as a favorite is Zach King's "The Cliché RC Action Chase." It featured a pair of Ford Mustang coupes racing through a cardboard city, plowing into outdoor patios and busting through construction zones. It was wonderfully creative and fun to watch, yet we know there was more to its creation than a bunch of guys fooling around with a camera one afternoon.
Turns out we were right, as evidenced by this video produced by Ford that takes us behind the scenes of Zach's creation. The young filmmaker explains why he chose the Mustang to star in his video, as well as how the cardboard sets were created, what equipment they used for shooting and what it was like when his video went viral. Ford found the young filmmaker and produced the followup as part of its Mustang Countdown video series, which will see a new video about the Mustang culture released every week until the original muscle car's anniversary on April 17, 2014.
Want to make an RC chase video of your own? Yeah, we do too. Watch the behind-the-scenes video below (you can refresh yourself on the mini feature film, too) before you get started.
Bonhams to auction Carroll Shelby's prototypes and personal cars
Fri, Apr 6 2018Fans of Carroll Shelby will want to make their way to Greenwich, Conn., this June, because Bonhams will be selling a great many cars from the man's personal collection. And many of them are the first of their kind, marking important milestones in Shelby's career. One of those important cars is a 1982 Dodge Charger prototype, which might not look as impressive as a Cobra, but it was important in that it was the first car on which Shelby collaborated with Chrysler. That car led to the first Shelby Charger, as well as other special small Chryslers including the GLH Omnis and Chargers (GLH standing for "Goes Like Hell"). In fact, the first Charger GLH-S (Goes Like Hell S'more) is also part of this collection. There are even some prototypes up for auction that never resulted in a production car, such as a Shelby modified Dodge Ram. That one is probably our favorite: the gold ram hood ornament, the huge pentastar in the grille, the double-barrel truck horn on the roof. It's wonderful nonsense. Of course it isn't just Chryslers going up for sale. There are a couple of GT500 and GT350 Mustangs in the mix from a variety of years. Perhaps most interesting is the very first Shelby Series I, Shelby's ill-fated roadster designed from the ground-up by the Texan's company. Unlike the other early Series I models, Shelby's had a supercharger, which led to a supercharger option being offered later. You can check out the full list of cars below, and pictures of each one in the gallery at the top. The auction will happen on June 3, and every vehicle offered has no reserve, so they'll all be sold for whatever price is shown at the drop of the gavel. 1927 Ford Model T 1931 Ford Model A 1935 Chrysler Airflow Sedan 1955 DeSoto Hard Top 1966 Shelby GT350 Convertible 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible 1968 Shelby GT350 1969 Shelby GT 500 previously owned by Jackie Cooper Jr. 1969 Shelby GT 500 1982 Shelby Charger Prototype 1983 De Tomaso Pantera 1983 Dodge/Shelby Pickup Concept 1987 DeTomaso GT5-S 1987 Dodge CSX Serial #1 1987 Shelby Charger GLH-S Serial #1 1987 Dodge Shelby Lancer Serial #1 1988 Dodge Shelby Dakota Prototype 1989 Dodge CSX VNT Serial #1 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Continuation 1999 Shelby Series 1 Serial #1 2008 Shelby GT 500 KR 2011 Shelby GT 500 Super Snake Aurora Race Car Related Video: Featured Gallery Shelby Collection View 72 Photos Image Credit: Bonhams Chrysler Dodge Ford Auctions Performance Classics shelby
2014 Holman & Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Ford Mustang
Mon, 01 Jul 2013If you're a fan of Ford racing history, a Mustang worshiper or even just an avid follower of our yearly SEMA coverage, you may have heard the back story on the Race Red Mustang you see above. Back in 1964, Holman & Moody was tapped by the English Alan Mann Racing Team to race-prep three Mustangs for competition in the incredibly arduous 4,000-mile Tour de France Automobile rally. Competing mainly against Jaguar MkII saloons over 10 days and 17 stages, the H&M Mustangs took the top two places in the Touring class and the first-ever racing win for Ford's pony car.
Though the history of that first Mustang win hasn't been incredibly well known here in the States, the subsequent decades have seen plenty of racy versions of the car come and go. Last year at the SEMA show, we covered the brief debut of this living tribute to that piece of racing lore, the Holman & Moody 50th Anniversary TdF Mustang.
This limited-edition Mustang represents a kind of new venture for H&M, as the legendary racing shop has spent the last few decades earning its keep largely by restoring vintage racing cars. The urge to get back into the world of Ford and Mustang was powerful, however, what with the car's 50th anniversary looming and the current generation of 'Stang just about out the door.
