2015 Ford F-150 enters production
Wed, 12 Nov 2014Ford has given the F-150 a dramatic makeover for 2015, switching to an aluminum body that helps reduce weight by about 700 pounds. Because the truck is dramatically different, Ford also had to change the way it makes the F-150, so we went inside its sprawling factory in Dearborn, MI, this week to see the Blue Oval's new manufacturing techniques in action.
The company has added 850 jobs at the site and upgraded its stamping and tool and die facilities. The body shop is also modernized, and it has been fitted with 500 new robots that join the structures together. The first 2015 F-150 rolled off the line on Tuesday, and the trucks will begin arriving in dealerships in December. Get a closer look at the F-150's unique assembly process in our video.

Fri, Apr 3 2015Automotive stunts don't always have to make sense; they just have to look cool. Does it really prove anything about the bed lighting in the 2015 Ford F-150 to attempt to land a drone back there while driving at night? Probably not, but Ford Canada wants to find out anyway, because the trick looks good on film. Chris Bacik is an expert at flying drones and even builds his own to use for his aerial cinematography company. As Ford Canada's very serious narrator intones, the question now is whether he can use those piloting skills to land on a moving F-150 in the dark. To make things even harder, the night of the stunt is quite windy. Even if the video demonstrates little about the truck's capabilities, it's fun to see if Bacik can do accomplish the feat. Justin Bell makes a horrible policeman
Mon, 11 Nov 2013If you're wondering what type of person makes a good police officer, it seems a racecar driver doesn't. Let us rephrase that: Justin Bell, a racecar driver and the host of Motor Trend's World's Fastest Car Show, recently got behind the wheel of a 5.0-liter Ford Mustang police car with Sergeant Daniel Shrubb, co-founder of DRAGG (Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti), and proved that his high-performance-driving skillset is a bit too aggressive for police duty.
While it's easy to get carried away in a Mustang GT, a patrol car driver must maintain some sort of restraint while pursuing a criminal, so as not to come off as a reckless driver to the public. We'll admit, some pursuit techniques are counter-intuitive to performance driving (stay off the gas in a lane-change exercise?), but Bell's judicious use of the handbrake can't be normal procedure.
