$3M Ferrari FXX K already sold out [w/videos]

When Ferrari took the wraps off its new FXX K track machine in Abu Dhabi last week, it conspicuously left out some key details. Sure, the Prancing Horse marque told us how much power it produced, and what it had done to the aero package to make it hug the track even closer than the road-going LaFerrari on which it's based – but it didn't tell us just how fast it will go, or how much it will cost. The latest reports, however, seek to fill in those blanks. According to Ferrari marketing chief Nicola Boari in speaking to Top Gear, the FXX K will lap the company's Fiorano test track in 1 minute 14 seconds. That would make it five seconds faster than the LaFerrari, a solid second ahead of the 599XX Evoluzione and two seconds faster than the original FXX. However it seems to fall short of the eight- to nine-second gap those previous XX derivatives opened up over the road-going models on which they in turn were based. So it seems, for the time being at least, that the 1:11.9 lap time recorded by the 333 SP – an open-cockpit sports prototype from the late 1990s – will remain for now the fastest car this side of an F1 racer ever to lap the circuit. The outright record stands at under 56 seconds and belongs to Michael Schumacher in the ten-cylinder F2004 he drove to his seventh and final world championship. As for the FXX K's production, Top Gear reports that Ferrari will build fewer than 40 of them, and that they've all been spoken for – at a price of ˆ2.5 million (more than $3M) apiece. Ferrari 400 Superamerica Aerodinamico fetches record $4.4M

RM Sotheby's moved an impressive $38.6 million in vintage metal at Amelia Island this year. And the top lot was the sleek classic you see here. It's a 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica LWB Coupe Aerodinamico, and its $4.4 million final tally is a record for its type. That's well past what it was estimated to sell for, with pre-sale expectations ranging from $2.7-3.3 million. Sports Car Market records that the previous high-water mark stood only a few hundred grand less at $4.07 million, achieved by a similar example sold by Gooding & Company last January. This particular example was the show car at the 1962 Turin Auto Show and has belonged to Erwin Goldschmidt and his family for the past four decades. As much as it sold for, of course, the Superamerica wasn't the only lot on the docket at RM Sotheby's Amelia Island sale. Other top sellers included a 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO and '68 330 GTS that sold for $2.6 and $2.2 million, respectively, a Pagani Huayra that topped $2 million, and a Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback that went for a high bid of $1.8 million. There was even a highly sought-after 1985 Ford RS200 Evolution that found a new home for $522,500 and a 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 that went for $363,000. 1964 Ferrari 250 LM expected to net $12-15 million at RM's NY auction

It's a supremely rare Ferrari 250 LM, the 24th member of a 32-car run, that rolled off the assembly line on what we imagine was a brilliant, sunny Italian summer's day in July of 1964.
Officially known as Chassis 6107, this 250 LM is rare because unlike its brothers, it wasn't originally bought to be a race car. Its first owner used it more or less as a toy, both around town and on the infamous Mulholland Drive, in California. After a pair of owners, it found its way into the hands of an Ecuadorian pair, who kicked off its racing career. Its best result was at the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona, where it finished eighth overall and first in class, although subsequent runs at Daytona and Sebring were less successful. Its most recent owner was a Japanese collector, who purchased the car in 1983 and has had it on display ever since.
