Ferrari LaFerrari Spider reportedly debuts privately

Mon, Mar 7 2016

If the Porsche 918 Spyder didn't fulfill your dream of open top motoring in a hybrid hypercar, look for Ferrari to publicly debut a topless version of the LaFerrari (standard version above) in the near future. The Facebook page for Automotive Passion (D. Benoit) asserts the LaFerrari Spider is finally on the way and backs up the claim with a photo of a carbon-fiber box that bears the vehicle's sharp silhouette (below). Motor1 claims that Ferrari plans to build 150 to 200 examples of the LaFerrari Spider, which is less than half of the 499 coupes, and customers already snapped them all up. The Prancing Horse is reportedly charging a hefty premium over the hardtop's $1.4-million price tag for the droptop. Given the coupe's sales success, we are surprised Ferrari didn't take the LaFerrari's roof off even sooner, and rumors about the Spider go back to at least 2014. The removable top might add a few pounds, but the 949-horsepower 6.3-liter hybrid V12 should still be plenty to hustle the hypercar around. Ferrari debuted the LaFerrari Spider at a private event, according to Motor1. Showing the hypercar suggests development in nearing completion, so expect a public debut and official info sometime this year. Ferrari F50s duel in world's most improbable tug-of-war

Thu, 11 Apr 2013

If it wasn't obscene enough to go off-roading in a Rolls-Royce Phantom or rally driving a Ferrari Enzo, the Tax The Rich crew has gotten its hands on a pair of ultra-rare Ferrari F50 models to perform a tug-of-war battle, which we usually see reserved for pickup trucks. Only 349 F50s were ever built, but this video pits two of them against each other by attaching a rope to the front ends, throwing the shifter into reverse and punching the throttle.
As we've come to expect from this video troupe, the action starts off with plenty of gravel-chucking, dirt-road drifting before the two cars finally meet head-to-head. Scroll down to watch the 520-hp V12s screaming in reverse as the tires smoke away.

Ferrari Purosangue SUV test mule spied in video

Mon, Oct 22 2018

We all know Ferrari has lost its shame and is working on an SUV, but here's the first hint of it with this video of what's most likely a Purosangue test mule. Yes, Ferrari Purosangue is the terrible name reportedly being given to the upcoming vehicle that Ferrari will not want you to call an "SUV." But what we're looking at here is the body of a GTC4Lusso with some obvious SUV hints. Just look at the ground clearance and wheel gap on this thing. That's clearly not typical Ferrari style. The video was captured by SupercarsNews on YouTube, and is actually quite comical too. As soon as the driver of the Ferrari notices the videographer standing by the fence, he jumps on the brakes and backs out of there behind the cover of trees. All was for naught, however, because we got to see and hear the test mule anyways. We don't imagine the Purosangue SUV/crossover thing will end up looking like this when it comes out. It is the first physical "proof" of the Ferrari utility vehicle, though, with a launch sometime early in the next decade forthcoming. Unfortunately, the quality of the video is on the poorer side of things, so it's difficult to pick much out beyond the high ride height. The sound of a modern Ferrari engine is evidently there — we wouldn't doubt this car being offered with an electrified powertrain too eventually. There's no information on where this video was shot, but chances are the videographer is right next to Ferrari's home in Maranello with this kind of a vehicle out and about. So go ahead and watch the video above -- it's a pretty weird sight to see a lifted Ferrari. Related video: Rumormill Spy Photos Ferrari Crossover SUV Luxury Performance
