Italian police foil plot to snatch Enzo Ferrari's body
Tue, Mar 28 2017Italian authorities on Tuesday said they had foiled a plot to steal the body of automotive legend Enzo Ferrari. That's Enzo Ferrari the man, not Ferrari Enzo Ferrari the supercar. Ferrari died in 1988 at age 90. He founded the company that produces some of the world's fastest and most expensive cars. Police in Nuoro on the island of Sardinia told a news conference that a gang had planned to snatch the body and demand a ransom from the Ferrari family or the company, Reuters and Italian news outlets reported. Authorities said the plot was discovered during an investigation into arms and drug trafficking. Helicopters and parachute regiment officers were used to execute 34 arrest warrants. Ferrari's body is interred above ground in a family mausoleum in Modena, near the Ferrari plant at Maranello in central Italy. Gang members had allegedly conducted several inspections of the burial site to plan the operation. The Ferrari founder has been in the news a lot recently. Two movie biopics are coming out, in which Robert De Niro and Hugh Jackman will each play the racing great.Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Ferrari 412 picks up a teak cargo bed
Wed, 28 May 2014While marques like Porsche and Lamborghini having already branched out into SUVs, with Bentley and Maserati soon to follow, Ferrari remains one of the few high-end automakers that refuses, for better or worse, to follow suit. But the boys in Maranello never said anything about a pickup.
That's precisely what we have here, although as you might have guessed, this was not (unlike the similar treatment BMW applied to the previous M3) a factory-authorized conversion. Instead it was undertaken by the London Motor Group, parent company to the London Motor Museum and London Supercar Workshop. It's based on a late-80s Ferrari 412, the 2+2 coupe that preceded the 456 GT, which in turn was replaced by the 612 Scaglietti and then the FF, itself Ferrari's first hatchback. In other words, it comes from a line that was ripe to mark a first in terms of Ferrari body-styles.
The one-off retains the 4.9-liter V12 and just about everything forward of the cabin. But behind it's got a three-foot pickup bed lined in teak. The London outfit also gave it a twin-barrel hood scoop, variable exhaust and a custom Bang & Olufsen sound system to round it out. The vehicle is set to feature on the History Channel's Ultimate Wheels, alongside a VW camper, Ford Mustang, Group B-inspired Audi and a unique Bristol.
Ferrari F40 GT goes all Farmkhana for Tax the Rich
Sun, Jan 24 2016Tax the Rich has thrown a number of Ferrari supercars around the farm in bouts of eyebrow-raising madness. It's featured a 288 GTO, a couple of F50s, even an Enzo. All it was missing was an F40, but its latest video installment corrects that in spectacular style. The self-styled Farmkhana gurus haven't just brought out any old F40 for this video, but a competition-spec F40 GT – and one with considerable pedigree. Chassis number 74047 was the sixth of only seven built, showcased after its construction at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show and converted to racing specification by Michelotto in 1991. The factory's racing partner managed to squeeze a massive 590 horsepower out of it, dropped the suspension, upgraded the brakes, and generally turned the beast way up past eleven. Privateer racer Luca Sartori campaigned it in the Italian GT Championship in the early '90s, winning races at Imola, Monza, and Mugello. The long and short of it is that this is a rather spectacular supercar, even among the rarified breed of F40 racecars. Which only makes it that much more shocking to see what they've done with it in this video. We'll let you watch the two-minute clip yourself to see how it unfolds, but suffice it to say it does not end well. Or at least that's what we're lead to believe.
