Ferrari fined 50,000 euros after Kimi Raikkonen runs over mechanic
Mon, Apr 9 2018MANAMA, Bahrain — Ferrari was fined 50,000 euros ($61,385) on Sunday after one of its Formula One mechanics was hit by Kimi Raikkonen's car and suffered a broken leg during a Bahrain Grand Prix pitstop. Raikkonen, who had been in third place, was told to stop immediately and retired in the pitlane while teammate Sebastian Vettel went on to win. At an IndyCar race in Phoenix over the weekend, meanwhile, Alexander Rossi and Sebastien Bourdais both also were penalized when they made contact with their mechanics. Ferrari said the mechanic on the left rear wheel, named only as Francesco, had been taken to hospital with a suspected shin bone and fibula fracture. He was knocked over as the Finn was wrongly given the signal to leave with only three tires replaced and the other still to be removed. "I go when the light is green. I don't see what happens behind and unfortunately he got hurt," said Raikkonen, the 2007 world champion. "My job is to go when the light says so. Hopefully, he's OK." The Finn was left sitting in his car for a while before stepping out while the mechanics focused on their stricken team mate on the floor. Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne wished the mechanic a speedy recovery in his post-race statement. "I am sorry for Kimi who could certainly have finished on the podium," he added. It was the second time Ferrari had been penalized for an unsafe release over the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. It was fined 5,000 euros after Raikkonen was sent out of the pits with a loose wheel in Friday practice. Race stewards said that in Sunday's incident the car was released "in a manner endangering team personnel and causing injury." Drunk driver launches $385,000 Ferrari off of cliff
Fri, Jan 20 2017A young man made the bad decision to get behind the wheel of his supercar after having too much to drink in Austin, TX. According to KTBC, the Austin Police and Fire Departments responded to a single vehicle crash just after 2 am on January 13. When first responders arrived on the scene, they discovered a mangled Ferrari 458 Italia at the bottom of a 50 foot ravine. Also in the ravine were three bruised, sheepish-looking drunks. Detective Mike Jennings of the Austin Police Department's DWI unit told KTBC that the trio was lucky to be alive. "They are lucky that we didn't have three people that were killed or injured more seriously than they were," Jennings told KTBC. Witnesses reported they spotted the Ferrari flying along the dark, windy road at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour before the driver lost control and balled the Ferarri up at the bottom of the ravine. The driver, James Allen of nearby Georgetown, TX, told APD officers that he'd only had two beers that night. Clearly not buying his explanation, APD arrested Allen for driving while intoxicated. "Anybody that has ever talked to intoxicated people, they always remember two beers, it's always the first one they had and the last one they had, it's everything in between, a lot of times they often forget," said Detective Jennings. Two weeks and 2,000 miles in Ferrari's FF with Evo
Mon, 28 Jan 2013EVO's Harry Metcalfe had some questions about the day-to-day livability of the Ferrari FF. When he brought those questions up to Ferrari, they suggested he take one for a couple of weeks and try it out for, as he calls them, "mundane duties." The image above is Metcalfe pointing to the 660-horsepower, all-wheel drive FF parked in one of his fields because, since he lives on a farm, mucking about the green is part of his daily routine. "It could use more ground clearance," he says, "but that's an option on this car."
He does get it on the "tarmac" and he likes it even more there than in the mud. Except for the buttons on the steering wheel; he thinks learning to use them is like learning to play guitar. He has a lot more to say besides that, and you can watch him expound for all of 17 minutes in the video below.
