Ferrari reveals pair of tailor-made specials in Shanghai
Fri, 20 Jun 2014For most people, buying a new Ferrari - heck, even a used one - would be a special occasion all on its own, not to mention a rare privilege. But to make the experience all the more special, the Prancing Horse marque offers its Tailor-Made personalization program. The service just reached the Asia-Pacific region for the first time with the new Tailor-Made Centre in Shanghai, and to mark its inauguration, Ferrari has revealed two new special editions - both based on V12 GTs and inspired by horses - specifically for the Chinese market.
First up is the F12 Berlinetta Polo Edition pictured above. The special F12 is distinguished by a white and blue theme, the exterior decked out in Bianco Italia Opaco (read: fancy white) with navy blue offset racing stripes, and the interior carrying an inverse take on the same featuring dark blue leather upholstering with white stitching, stripes and trim.
Those looking for more traction and versatility might be more intrigued by the FF Dressage Edition. The four-seat, four-wheel special gets a piano black exterior and a reddish saddle brown leather interior with grid-pattern stitching (pictured inset at right).
Nissan GT-R and Ferrari 458 Speciale in track battle by Evo
Thu, 14 Aug 2014Supercar slayer. That's what they call the Nissan GT-R. And in many ways it is, even though its price and performance over the years have risen to put it squarely in supercar territory of its own right.
In fact, as Evo magazine has been compiling a list of its fastest cars - using the Anglesey Circuit in Wales as its common ground - the GT-R has came out on top... that is, until Evo tested the Ferrari 458 Speciale. The two are about as different as you can get within the supercar segment: one has a turbo six up front driving all four wheels in a 2+2 configuration, the other a mid-engined, rear-drive V8 two-seater. In fact the only common ground you're likely to find between them comes down to their two doors and dual-clutch transmissions. Though they serve it up in different ways, both are class-leading performers.
We're looking forward to watching Evo populate its leaderboard with more entries like the McLaren 650S and more potent Nismo GT-R, but in the meantime the British enthusiast magazine, by popular demand, has released side-by-side in-car footage of both supercars putting their best lap forward around the seaside circuit.
Watch team build life-size Ferrari F1 car from Lego bricks
Thu, Aug 31 2017Following up on the company's recent replica of a McLaren 720S, Lego has moved on to that company's Formula One rival, Ferrari, to build another full-scale model. And the car is in fact Ferrari's 2017 F1 race car, and it has even more Lego content. For this model, even the wheels and tires are made of the studded plastic bricks. You can watch Lego employees bring the car together from its development and planning stages all the way through construction. The video also reveals many interesting tidbits about the car. For instance, the model weighs less than the real thing. It's 1,250 pounds. The actual Ferrari SF70H weighs 1,605 pounds, though that includes coolant, oil, and the driver. The model also features nearly 350,000 pieces, which is about 70,000 more than the McLaren had. It took about 750 hours to assemble the car, not including over 840 hours to design and develop it. You'll also see that even this massive Lego model still has stickers to apply, and considering how tricky the little stickers can be on perfectly smooth surfaces, placing theses huge ones over bumpy ridges must've been quite difficult.
