Jay Leno's first time behind the wheel of the F40 is a magical moment

Mon, Nov 14 2016

Jay Leno has a vast collection of cars and thanks to his connections gets to drive other incredible machines. But Leno has never experienced the raw, visceral feel of a Ferrari F40, until now. It doesn't take long for him to call it the best Ferrari he's ever driven and to claim that it's one of the most exciting cars to drive. The 1990 F40 belongs to Ferrari collector and jeweler David Lee. The vehicle, like the rest of Lee's collection, is immaculate. Lee isn't a stranger to Jay Leno's Garage and has let Leno experience his other Ferraris in the past. But the F40, in all of its turbocharged fury, is Leno's favorite Prancing Horse. As Leno claims, the F40 is a visceral, raw machine that caters to those that enjoy driving. There are no driver aids to help put down the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8's power and nothing in the way to dilute the driving experience. Leno even goes as far as claiming the F40 is Italy's version of the AC Cobra, which is high praise from a person that isn't a huge fan of the brand. Leno clearly caught the Ferrari bug. All it took was a drive in the iconic F40. Ferrari won't quit F1, says Christian Horner

Sat, Nov 11 2017

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Ferrari and Formula One need each other just as much and the Italian glamor team's latest threat to leave after 2020 sounds like bluster, Red Bull principal Christian Horner said on Friday. Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne last week warned that his team could walk away, when current contracts expire, if they disagreed with the direction the sport was taking under new U.S.-based owners Liberty Media. Ferrari have made similar threats in the past under different management and Horner, whose team were champions for four years in a row between 2010-13, was skeptical about the fresh warning. "They'll bluster that they don't need Formula One, but what other form of motor racing is going to give Ferrari the platform that Formula One does?," Horner told Sky Sports F1 after first practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. "The two go hand-in-hand together and have done since the beginning of the championship (in 1950). Nobody wants to lose Ferrari. And I don't think Ferrari can afford to lose Formula One," added the Briton. "So there'll be a lot of brinkmanship and chest-puffing at the moment. But I think when the music stops, they'll be there." Horner suggested also that Marchionne's response was part of a bigger picture that includes possible changes to the distribution of revenues. Ferrari currently receive a bigger share than any team due to their historic status as the sport's oldest and most successful entrant, and will be resistant to taking any reduction. Former commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone, who dealt with Ferrari for decades under late founder Enzo and then Luca di Montezemolo, told Reuters this week that Marchionne's words should be heeded however. "The difference is that Sergio wasn't the guy in control before," said the 87-year-old, who was ousted by Liberty in January. "If he decides that's what he's going to do, that's what he'll do." "The world is changing an awful lot. So things that you would say would never happen, may happen." (Reporting by Alan Baldwin in London, editing by William Maclean)Related Video:

An assortment of emblematic supercars is headed to auction

Sun, Sep 18 2022

Auction house RM Sotheby's is giving enthusiasts the chance to bid on the supercars that they had posters of when they were kids. It's organizing a live sale in Miami, Florida, in December 2022 that's limited to 60 high-end models built between the 1970s and the 2010s. The oldest car in the catalog is a V12-powered 1974 Jaguar E-Type, though keep in mind that only 20 of the 60 available slots have been filled so far. At the other end of the spectrum, the newest model is currently a 2014 BMW M5. If your automotive tastes are firmly anchored in the 1980s, there's a wide selection of cars to choose from such as a 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition and a 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo with a flat-nose conversion. If your heart belongs in the 1990s, RM's sale includes a 1990 Lamborghini LM 002, a 1995 Ferrari 512 M, and a 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo. Bentley models and a 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR are among the newer classics. Carmakers weren't alone in pursuing speed, style, and extravagance in the 1980s; tuners fought hard for a piece of the pie as well, and RM's sale reflects that. Collectors will get the rare opportunity to bid on a number of pre-merger AMG models like a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500SL 5.0 (R107), a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC 6.0 (C126) with a wide-body kit, and a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL 6.0 (W126). BMW-based Alpina models are well represented, too: RM accepted a pair of 6 Series-based 1987 B7 coupes and a 3 Series-based B6 2.8.  There are several slots left so it's not too late to submit your car. If you're a buyer, plan on being in Miami on December 9 and 10, 2022. We suggest clearing up space in your garage first: every car is offered with no reserve, so the selling price will be the highest bid. Related Video This content is hosted by a third party.
