This is perhaps the rarest and most striking of all F355 Ferrari Spiders.  It is the only known Le Mans Blue with a Bordeaux interior in the world in this configuration.  The only other known Le Mans Blue with a Bordeaux interior is located in England and it is right and drive and has the terribly slow F1 transmission.

This is a classic color combination that was very popular in the 50s and 60s and found on period Ferraris and Maserati.

The typical shrinking leather dash on the F355 was just addressed with thousands spent on new leather.  Similarly, the red leather cover for the top is also new.  The red leather interior, including the very expensive option of a full red leather dash and matching steering wheel, is in excellent condition as are the beautifully contrasting navy carpets with matching Ferrari original navy floor mats.

A full belt service was just performed in March of 2013 and the Ferrari is running flawlessly.

The top was serviced and is working as it should.

The top is navy blue.

I have known of this car since 2005 when it was for sale in Greenwich CT by Hunting Ridge Motors.  (I even have photos from when the dealer offered the car for sale back then.)   They sold the car to a gentleman in California. He proceeded to hit the curb with the right rear wheel and cause damage to the front bumper on the lower left side.  This bent the lower control arm and the drive shaft.  For reasons unknown to me, the owner was paid off and the car then sold at an insurance auction for a very substantial sum several years ago.  I attended the auction but was outbid.  There was no body damage and no mechanical damage.

The damage was very typical for performance cars that owners often fishtail when applying too much throttle, e.g., bending a lower control arm and damaging a wheel on the right rear.

Inspections are welcome.  See for yourself how nice a car this is with just 17k miles!  And she drives like she has only 17k miles. Tight and solid!

The 355 is a great investment. It's the end of the Enzo era inspired cars and they made very few with just over 3k spiders being made for the world.  Compare that to the 360 where Ferrari made more than 13,000 of that model!  This is the end of the small, svelte go kart like handling Ferraris.

It sounds more like an F1 car than any other Ferrari (except the F1 cars of course)

It has 5 valve per cylinder

It is the last of the Ferrari with a manual transmission and a true throttle cable as opposed to indirect drive by wire found in the 360 and later cars.  It is the best shifting, best driving true sports car from Ferrari.

The 458 is a sweet ride but it is over $200k, only comes with an automatic transmission, doesn't sound as good as the F355, and arguably as a spider doesn't look as good as the F355.  If you are wanting a true classic yet modern Ferrari experience, the F355 is the only car that fits the bill.  Fast, fun, sounds great, great to look at, limited production.  These cars will only appreciate.

Spring is just around the corner. Miss this one and you miss this irreplaceable color combination in a low mileage classic.

Manual and tool kit included.

One more LaFerrari will be built to benefit Italian earthquake victims

Wed, Aug 31 2016

Today, Ferrari Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne announced that the company was planning to build one more Ferrari LaFerrari coupe in order to raise money for victims of the earthquake that struck central Italy last week, killing nearly 300 people. Production of the car officially ended in 2015, with 499 examples produced, though preparations for the LaFerrari Spider are in the works. The 500th LaFerrari will be auctioned off, though no word on when the car will go on sale. The lucky owner will take home the most powerful and expensive road-car the Italian automaker has ever produced. The LaFerrari, which sold for $1.3 million, makes 949 horsepower from its V12 hybrid system. It remains, and mostly likely will remain for quite some time, one of the quickest vehicles on the planet. Ferrari Classiche gives 250 GT a new lease on life [w/video]

Wed, Dec 9 2015

There are plenty of workshops filled with skilled craftsman who'd be glad to restore a classic Ferrari. But many are opting to sending their vintage Prancing Horses back to the factory in Maranello to be worked over by the company's own Classiche department. Like this Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione, for example. The car was delivered new to Scuderia driver Dorino Serefani, who rarely drove it and sold it in 1964 to a Frenchman who crashed it. He in turn sold it to a Belgian who brought it back to life, repainted it dark blue and gave it a black interior. Another former F1 driver Jacques Pollet bought it next and repainted it in gray, before another Belgian owner bought it in 1984 and had it resprayed yellow in 1992. That's a lot of color changes over the years, but its next owner had yet another livery in mind. He took to Ferrari Classiche in March of last year and had it brought up to spec, this time selecting a Pininfarina gray with a brown interior. The restoration process took 14 months and involved restoring the engine, bodywork, suspension, and rolling stock. Now after more than a year of work, the process is complete and the owner has retaken delivery of the classic Cavallino just the way he wanted it This content is hosted by a third party. A new lease of life for a 250 GT SWB An extensive 14-month restoration Maranello, 2 December – 14 months of meticulous work – that's how long it took the Ferrari Classiche Department to restore the engine, bodywork, suspensions and running gear of a 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione to pristine condition. The car arrived in Maranello in March 2014 and work began in the summer of the same year, only finishing last week when it was returned to its delighted owner. Famous names. According to the few documents available, the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione's first owner was Dorino Serafini, a GT and Formula 1 driver who also delivered a podium position in the 1950 Italian Grand Prix for the Scuderia Ferrari. However, he rarely used this particular car, except in fairly low profile races. In 1964, the 250 GT SWB was purchased by Frenchman Rene Richard. Unfortunately, he crashed it and then sold it on to the Belgian driver Lucien Bianchi who was a brilliant mechanic. After it was repaired, the car was given a dark blue livery with a black interior.

Ford 1.0L takes third-straight International Engine of the Year award

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost is proving to be The Little Engine That Could, and it continues to acquit itself well, finding favor as one of the best powerplants in the world. To confirm it yet again, the tiny mill just won the International Engine of the Year award for the third year in a row, likewise also nabbing the title in the Sub 1.0-liter category.
Packing 123 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque with overboost (125 lb-ft normally), the tiny engine combines impressive power in a size small enough to be a carry-on item for a commercial flight. US buyers only got a taste of the award winner in the 2014 Fiesta, while the 1.0 EcoBoost has been available throughout the Ford lineup in Europe for a few years now. American sales have reportedly been strong, however, and next up in the US, the mill will find its way into the 2015 Focus.
The panel of 82 jury members from 34 countries also named the Mercedes-AMG 2.0-liter turbo found in the A45, CLA45 and GLA45 AMG models with 355 hp and 332 lb-ft as the best New Engine for 2014. The electric powertrain from Tesla won Green Engine prize, and the 4.5-liter V8 from the Ferrari 458 Italia took home the honor of top Performance Engine yet again. You can check out all the winners below, and scroll down further to read Ford's celebratory announcement of its award.
