Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas assemble by the shore at Pebble Beach
Mon, 18 Aug 2014Seeing one Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people because so few exist, and those that do generally trade hands for tens of millions of dollars. At this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, there are 20 of these amazing rarities lined up next to each other.
Situated right on the shore of the Pacific Ocean, you can actually hear the waves lapping against the rocks during the quiet moments. Just a few feet away these thoroughbred Prancing Horses are on display and being polished to perfection. The Testa Rossas represent some of the most important historic racers in the world, and the mix here include a prototype, a Le Mans winner and models that counted drivers like Phil Hill and Dan Gurney behind the wheel.
Not all Testa Rossas were created equal, though. Ferrari built both factory racing and customer versions, and they came with curvaceous bodies from Scaglietti and a bit more angular look with dual snouts from Fantuzzi. Many of them also had further modifications from there to make each one about as unique as a snowflake. Check out our fabulous gallery of all 20 of these beautiful red heads on display together.
Faraday Future to hire former Ferrari exec Marco Mattiacci
Wed, Jun 8 2016Electric car manufacturer Faraday Future has lured a very big fish to its executive pond, hiring former Ferrari executive Marco Mattiacci, a source told Autoblog. Business Insider also reported the move. It's unclear what role Mattiacci will have at Faraday, but he served with distinction at Ferrari. Between 2006 and 2014, he was the head of Ferrari North America and Ferrari Asia Pacific, though that success didn't translate to motorsports. Mattiacci succeeded Stefano Domenicali as team principal of Scuderia Ferrari in April 2014 and led the team to a fourth-place finish, behind Mercedes, Red Bull, and Williams. The Scuderia were not pleased and Mattiacci resigned. Faraday is no stranger to snagging talent from other automakers. It hired employees from Ford, GM, and BMW and has done an especially good job of poaching talent from Elon Musk. It lured Tesla's vice president of regulatory affairs and deputy general counsel, James Chen, last month. Faraday hired the head of Model S production, Dag Reckhorn, to serve as its global VP of manufacturing, and in April it brought in Tesla's director of global supplier industrialization, Andrew De Haan, to run the Faraday's Nevada factory. Business Insider reports Faraday has even poached SpaceX employees. We expect more hiring from Faraday in the future, too. The company's website is packed with California-based positions for everything from vehicle safety to autonomous driving to product planning. One more LaFerrari will be built to benefit Italian earthquake victims
Wed, Aug 31 2016Today, Ferrari Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne announced that the company was planning to build one more Ferrari LaFerrari coupe in order to raise money for victims of the earthquake that struck central Italy last week, killing nearly 300 people. Production of the car officially ended in 2015, with 499 examples produced, though preparations for the LaFerrari Spider are in the works. The 500th LaFerrari will be auctioned off, though no word on when the car will go on sale. The lucky owner will take home the most powerful and expensive road-car the Italian automaker has ever produced. The LaFerrari, which sold for $1.3 million, makes 949 horsepower from its V12 hybrid system. It remains, and mostly likely will remain for quite some time, one of the quickest vehicles on the planet.
