1994 Ferrari 348 Spider Base Convertible 2-door 3.4l on 2040-cars
Sacramento, California, United States
|
This fine example is a well-maintained and thoroughly documented example complete with service records back to 1995 and book set. Finished in a wonderfully elegant color combination of grey with dark blue interior, this car was sold new on 31 May 1995 in San Antonio, Texas. Its original window sticker price was $121,900. The car remained in Texas until 2004, at which point it was relocated to California, where it has remained since. It has been regularly serviced with the following work performed since 2011: new starter, new clutch, rebuilt climate control unit, timing belt replacement (May 2013), and routine servicing. The car is in very good largely original cosmetic condition. The paint is in very good condition, with excellent luster and few blemishes. A few small chips have been touched up, and the front bumper has light road rash and a small crack at the bottom of the valence. The front decklid has almost no marks on it, and the lights are in excellent shape. The wheels and in very good shape, with no significant curb rash and just a few minor marks. The glass and lights are excellent as is the top, which looks virtually unused. The interior is in good condition. The leather is intact and nice overall, though there is some wear on the driver’s seat bolster and some creasing on the seats. The instruments are in very good condition and the dashboard is in good condition, although the leather on the instrument binnacle is shrinking slightly. The switches and controls are in very good to excellent shape, though some of the black interior components such as the ashtray lid have become tacky, a common issue with Ferraris of this period. The car was fitted with an expensive aftermarket stereo system as well. The engine compartment and front compartment are both in original and very clean condition, in keeping with a properly maintained, low-mileage car. The front compartment is surprisingly large and in essentially as new condition. The 348 Spyder is surprisingly rare for a modern Ferrari, with 1090 examples built during only one model year of production. This particular example is well-documented, well-maintained, and finished in a rare and desirable color, making it ideal for an enthusiastic owner seeking something a bit different. |

Bonhams is auctioning a genuine, Tom Selleck-driven, Magnum P.I. Ferrari
Mon, Jan 16 2017If you're down at the Scottsdale car auctions this week, and love TV Ferraris, this is your chance to own one of the most famous of all. Bonhams will be selling a 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole that appeared on the detective show Magnum P.I. and was driven by Tom Selleck in all of his mustachioed glory. According to the auction house, this was one of the later models that was used for filming in 1984 and 1985. The car is in superb shape, too. It had only two owners after its time on the show, and its second owner had the car since 1989. It's nearly 100-percent stock, and it even comes with the factory tool kit. The only change was an aftermarket Tubi exhaust. However, the original piping is included with the car. The 232-horsepower V8-powered Ferrari won't come cheap, though. Bonhams estimates the car will sell for between $150,000 and $250,000. According to Hagerty Insurance, that's pretty high for a 308 GTS Quattrovalvole, which the company values at $83,900 for an "Excellent" condition model, and $122,000 for "Concours" condition. However, that's for one that never turned up on TV. And for a wealthy Magnum P.I. fan, you can't do much better than a Ferrari driven by Magnum himself. Related Video:
Stellantis ready to kill brands and fix U.S. problems, CEO Tavares says
Thu, Jul 25 2024Â MILAN — Stellantis is taking steps to fix weak margins and high inventory at its U.S. operations and will not hesitate to axe underperforming brands in its sprawling portfolio, its chief executive Carlos Tavares said on Thursday. The warning for lossmaking brands is a turnaround for Tavares, who has maintained since Stellantis was created in 2021 from the merger of Italian-American automaker Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA that all of its 14 brands including Maserati, Fiat, Peugeot and Jeep have a future. "If they don't make money, we'll shut them down," Carlos Tavares told reporters after the world's No. 4 automaker delivered worse-than-expected first-half results, sending its shares down as much as 10%. "We cannot afford to have brands that do not make money." The automaker now also considers China's Leapmotor as its 15th brand, after it agreed to a broad cooperation with the group. Stellantis does not release figures for individual brands, except for Maserati which reported an 82 million euro adjusted operating loss in the first half. Some analysts say Maserati could possibly be a target for a sale by Stellantis, while other brands such as Lancia or DS might be at risk of being scrapped given their marginal contribution to the group's overall sales. Stellantis' Milan-listed shares were down as much as 12.5% on Thursday, hitting their lowest since August 2023. That brings the loss for the year so far to 22%, making them the worst performer among the major European automakers. Few automotive brands have been killed off since General Motors ditched the unprofitable Saturn and Pontiac during a U.S. government-led bankruptcy in the global financial crisis in 2008. Tavares is under pressure to revive flagging margins and sales and cut inventory in the United States as Stellantis bets on the launch of 20 new models this year which it hopes will boost profitability. Recent poor results from global carmakers have heightened worries about a weakening outlook for sales across major markets such as the U.S., whilst they also juggle an expensive transition to electric vehicles and growing competition from cheaper Chinese rivals. Japan's Nissan Motor saw first-quarter profit almost completely wiped out on Thursday and slashed its annual outlook, as deep discounting in the United States shredded its margins. Tavares said he would be working through the summer with his U.S. team on how to improve performance and cut inventory.
Ferrari replacing fuel tanks on limited number of LaFerraris
Wed, Mar 18 2015Ferrari is working to repair an issue with its flagship LaFerrari hypercar, but the automaker claims the problem is not as drastic as some widely-circulated rumors would have you believe. In response to our inquiry into the matter, a Ferrari spokesperson told Autoblog that "no recall has been issued regarding the LaFerrari." Instead, the company tells us that "some clients have been invited to take their cars to an authorized service center to substitute the fuel tank with a new one with new paint." The issue seems to revolve around "a possible incorrect adhesion of a layer of paint on the fuel tank," which could result in a fire. Contrary to rumors that suggested the issue would affect every example of the seven-figure supercar built to date and would take several weeks to repair, we're told that "the time to change the fuel tank is relatively short and the intervention concerns only a limited number of LaFerraris." That "relatively short" time period, we're told, "takes approximately one day," and "all of the cars have already been serviced in the US." As to whether this constitutes a recall or simply a suggested service as Ferrari claims, however, is a matter that's open to interpretation. Related Video:
