I am selling my 348TS after nearly 7 wonderful years of ownership. The car has been bullet proof - reliable and fun throughout my ownership. It will make a great buy for someone wanting their first Ferrari or for someone looking for a more analogue experience compared to today's gizmo laden cars.

Exterior

The car looks fabulous for something that is 22 years old - most people are shocked to believe it is not a new Ferrari. The paint is in great condition - The car received some paint work in 2012 to take care of road rash on the front/rear bumper. There are some minor swirls on the paint - normal for the age. The car has been garaged and lies under a car cover when at home.

The wheels are in fine shape with a few nicks and scratches; see enclosed pictures. The wheel caps are slightly faded or cracked. Am providing a new set of wheel caps (all 4) for the owner to install as necessary.

There is a clear bra installed on the front bumper, hood and mirrors to protect the paint. There is also a plastic shield to protect the expensive ($$$$) fog lamps and headlights.

My 348 has a unique look among all 348s for the following reasons:

  •          Rear grill emulates the 348 Series Speciale model
  •          Lexan engine cover that allows you to see the engine like a Ferrari 360 or newer V8 car. Very cool feature – no other car has it
  •          Body color Targa roof
  •          Functional dual front scoops in the front bumper – both feed the front brakes while the right one also serves as an A/c inlet.

I do not have the original grill, engine cover.

Interior

Seats are in great shape – no tears. Has some minor wear on the driver’s side bolster. The roof fits perfectly – doesn’t leak during rains. The a/c panel shows sign of stickiness. I fixed this in 2008 but it has come back – this is a common feature on a Ferrari. Happens to all the cars. A little TLC can fix it. J All the instruments, buttons, gauges work. The seatbelt motors work perfectly (expensive to fix if it doesn’t – check this on all cars that you are buying).

Comes with owner’s manual, warranty and service book, leather cover and an additionally a printed shop manual for DIYers.

The following tasteful (IMO) features were added:

  •          Ferrari 360 Challenge steering wheel with Ferrari logo – will cost ~$750 today. The wheel is covered in gray alcantara/suede and feels wonderful to grip. It has a red stripe at the 12 o’ clock position for a racing car like experience J
  •          Billet Aluminum Hill Engg pedal set
  •          Chrome gear shifter
  •          50mm extension to the steering rack – greatly reduces the strain on your upper back when driving
  •          Alpine stereo with Ipod connector
  •          Custom Ferrari logo mats
  •          Carbon fiber inlay panel on the door frame.
  •      Two keys

I do not have the original parts.

Mechanicals

  •          The engine is in great shape. Stock Ferrari or better (e.g. Hill Engineering) components used. The car has a Ferrari 348 Spider exhaust that is approximately 35lbs lighter than the original dual can exhaust and sounds wonderful. The exhaust note is mellifluous with a gruff sound at low revs rising to a yowl at high revs. Makes the stereo system redundant.
  •          Brakes are in good condition – the car stops true and quickly. The pads were replaced with Porterfield pads in 2008. Note there is some brake squeal but this is normal for high performance cars.
  •          Tires in good shape - All 4 tires were changed at 19,000 miles and the rears were replaced again at 27,300 miles.
  •          Clutch was replaced in 2011 at a cost of $3K
  •          Exterior lights all work

·         Comes with tool kit with everything in it.

Service History

The car comes with a thick dossier of service records dating back to 2002 - unlike most auction cars which come with zilch!

Key highlights:

  •          3 major services performed – in 2002, 2005 and the last one in 2009 @ 24,358 miles.  For the last major - I had Norwood Performance Inc. (a respected shop in Dallas, TX) perform a “no expense spared” service in 03/2009 at 24,358 miles. Highlights included: timing belt, tensioner bearings with Hill Engg. parts, valve adjustments, seals, A/c and alternator belts, new water pump, R&R exhaust valve seats and right head, fuel filter replacement, silicon hose and fuel pipe replacement, etc. Have photos of the service.
  •          Clutch replaced in 2011
  •          New battery in 2012
  •          A/c topped in 2012 and works decently. It was converted to R134 prior to my ownership
  •          Frequent oil changes using only Redline engine oil and gearbox oil during my ownership
  •          Brake fluid flushed per prescribed intervals

I have done my best to be as descriptive of the car as possible.

In summary, I think the car is in great shape, has been well looked after and will make a great first Ferrari for a lucky someone. Hopefully you!

Race Recap: 2014 German Grand Prix is relapse and recovery

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

The 2014 German Formula 1 Grand Prix is the hump-day race in the season and the penultimate chance for drivers and teams to rack up points before the summer break. Trying to stay on top after his first DNF of the year at the British Grand Prix, Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg didn't have to wait until the race for misfortune to find Lewis Hamilton; his British teammate crashed out of the Q2 qualifying session due to a brake failure, then had to change his gearbox due of the crash, a calamity that left him starting 20th on the grid.
Rosberg took pole ahead of the Williams duo of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa, with Kevin Magnussen surprising everyone with a fourth place in his McLaren. Daniel Ricciardo put the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing in fifth, ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari pilot Fernando Alonso, Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat, the Force India pair of Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Perez finishing the top ten.
In a replay of events in Britain but with a German accent, a first-lap incident brought out the Safety Car and the same Brazilian was taken out of the race.

1964 Ferrari 250 GTO sees Petrolicious embracing gorgeousness

Tue, 29 Apr 2014

We've never, ever accused Petrolicious of slacking when it comes to the quality of cars it features. Each week brings a new, exciting, rare vehicle that has some special quality or provenance to it. But this week's video... it's beyond everything else the series has ever done.
That's because it stars the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO, also known as (possibly) the most expensive vehicle ever sold. Only 36 were ever built, and this particular 1964 example was the first of the Series II range. Rather than some tinkerer or restorer behind the wheel of this masterpiece, Derek Hill, son of the first American Formula One World Champion, Phil Hill, is on hand for the interview and is slotted into the tight cockpit of the Rosso Corsa masterpiece.
This particular GTO was raced multiple times by Hill Sr., and it recorded wins at Daytona and Nassau, thanks in part to its 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter V12 engine. That makes it a bit special for the younger Hill, who can speak with some authority about this car's provenance - and wheel it rather well himself, as he's a fairly accomplished racer in his own right. Of course, if you're like us, you'll forget everything Hill says and will go completely slack-jawed as soon as that V12 starts to sing.

1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona is viceless in Miami Scottsdale at Barrett-Jackson

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

We love the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. It's most definitely a classic, made famous in part by its appearance as Don Johnson's favored ride in the classic '80s television series Miami Vice... but we won't hold that against it.
The specific example you see above just crossed the block at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson extravaganza in Scottsdale, and it cleared a cool $495,000 after the buyer's commission was factored in. The 1972 Daytona features a sweet-sounding V12 engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Plus, it's brown, with a tan interior. Stunning. Check it out in our high-res image gallery above, and be sure to read through its official auction description below.
