Up for auction is my 1990 Ferrari 348ts.  It is Rosso Red with a tan interior with 37,150 miles.  It is all stock with the original 3.4 liter V8 motor and 5 speed transmission.  I bought the car about nine months ago and really love the car as it is great fun to drive.  However, a couple months ago I developed some back issues which are worsened when I drive a stick shift car.  After many, many years of owning manual transmission sports cars, I may finally be old enough to look for an automatic transmission in my next sports car.

This car has had no previous accident damage and has been well cared for by the previous owners.  I bought it from Sport Auto in Summerfield, NC who had the car on consignment from the owner they had previously sold the car to.  I have numerous service records with most of the service completed at Sport Auto by their certified Ferrari tech named Tom Jones.  So the dealership knew the car very well and it has been everything they said it would be.

When I purchased the car, I knew it needed to have the cam belt service which requires removing the motor.  Sport Auto had done the previous cam belt service 6,000 miles ago but it had been six years.  The belt is supposed to last for 30,000 miles but the time factor here was the reason the belt needed to be replaced.  The upgraded Hill Engineering idler and tensioner pulley's had been installed at this service.

I have a lift in my garage and do my own service along with the help of my engineer son.  Last November we pulled the motor and installed a new cam belt.  Since the cam belt also runs the water pump, it was replaced as well.  During the inspection of the engine, I discovered that the A/C compressor was leaking and a new one was installed.  The A/C system was also converted to 134A at that time and does a great job of cooling the interior even during some recent 90 degree plus days.  We also installed a new clutch while the motor was out.  While the motor was out I also cleaned up the motor,  the engine bay and both front and rear suspensions.  All of this work was documented on the Ferrari Chat website in the following thread:

http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/429582-ferrari-348-engine-out-service.html

The car has run flawlessly since we put the motor back in the car around the first of the year.  I have put over 3,000 miles driving it to various car shows and on Sunday afternoon pleasure rides with my wife.  It still has the original single stage paint except for the lift out roof.  At some point this piece was painted body color using base/clear paint.  The paint is very good to excellent with minimal stone chips on the nose. I would rate the interior at that same level with some wear on the driver's seat that is consistent with the age of the car and the mileage.  The wheels are in great shape and there is lots of tread left on the tires.  The transmission shifts well with no synchro issues.  The brake pads have plenty of material, the car stops evenly with no pulling and new synthetic brake fluid was used after the motor was re-installed.  Everything works on the car as it should.  With the new clutch and recent belt service, this is a Ferrari 348 that can be driven for a number of years before it will require service.

The car has a clear title with no liens and is sold as is with no warranty.  For more information, please call 704-657-8320.  I have the car listed locally and reserve the right to stop the auction if the car sells locally.

Buy with confidence as I have some very positive feedback from previous E-Bay buyers.  There are other very satisfied buyers of some of my cars that purchased  the car after the auction ended.

Lawsuit alleges Ferrari diagnostic tool used to roll back odometers

Wed, Mar 1 2017

A longtime Ferrari salesman is accusing a Palm Beach dealership of using Ferrari's DEIS diagnostic tester tool to reset a 2015 LaFerrari's odometer, driving the supercar's value up by over $1 million. The lawsuit alleges that in October 2015, a technician at New Country Motor Cars reset the digital odometer of the LaFerrari in exchange for cash from its then-owner. What makes the lawsuit especially interesting is that it says using the DEIS tester to perform a rollback would require logging in with Ferrari North America, and alleges the technician was on the phone with Ferrari NA during the operation. The odometer-tampering allegation came up as part of the plaintiff's wrongful-termination claim against New Country Motor Cars. The lawsuit also alleges the tester has been used for this purpose beginning in April 2010, along with a written Ferrari policy manual and instructions and factory authorization, and was performed as recently as March 2015 during official Ferrari factory technician training in Italy. Odometer tampering is a dodgy business and a federal crime, no matter whether you're turning back the reading of an old taxi or a Ferrari worth millions. The lawsuit was first reported by the British Daily Mail, and subsequently covered by Jalopnik. The lawsuit has produced a countersuit by the owner of the LaFerrari in question.Related Video:

Vettel wins in Hungary as Ferrari finishes first and second

Sun, Jul 30 2017

Sebastian Vettel won a tense Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday in a Ferrari one-two that stretched his championship lead to 14 points after Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton sportingly surrendered third place to his team mate. The German, savoring his fourth win of the season and 46th of his Formula One career, took the chequered flag 0.9 seconds ahead of team mate Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn had looked faster than Vettel for most of the afternoon. "I'm over the moon, that was a really difficult race," said the winner, who had to wrestle with a skewed steering wheel on a sweltering afternoon at the Hungaroring and had no room for error. Hamilton finished fourth after slowing down on the last lap and allowing Finnish team mate Valtteri Bottas to go past, despite the loss of vital points to the Briton's championship challenge. Bottas had let Hamilton through on the 45th of the 70 laps, on the assurance that his team mate would hand back the place if he could not overtake the Ferraris, and the triple champion duly kept his word. "Really thanks to Lewis for keeping the promise in the end and letting me by," said Bottas. "I don't think every team mate would have swapped back." Hamilton, whose radio was malfunctioning for some of the race and would have had more of a chance had he got past Bottas earlier, said he had done what he had to do. "It's tough in the championship but I'm a man of my word," he said. "I did say that if I can't overtake them I would let him back through." On a circuit where overtaking is notoriously hard, the top five all finished in their starting order with Max Verstappen fifth for Red Bull. The Dutch teenager was handed a 10-second stop and go penalty for colliding with his Australian team mate Daniel Ricciardo on the opening lap. The impact ended Ricciardo's race, with the car stranded on the track and fluid leaking from the broken radiator, and brought out the safety car. "It's not on. It was amateur to say the least. It's not like he was trying to pass – there was no room to pass," said an angry Ricciardo. "I don't think he likes it when a team mate gets in front. You've got the whole race to try and repair the mistake but the pass was never on. It wasn't even a pass, it was a very poor mistake." Fernando Alonso, who celebrated his 36th birthday on Saturday, gave struggling McLaren their best finish of the season so far by taking sixth place and also setting the fastest lap of the race.

Scuderia Ferrari displaces relatives of missing passengers at Malaysian hotel

Sun, 23 Mar 2014

The action and glamor of a Formula One race coming to town is usually more than enough to shine an international spotlight on a host country, but Malaysia has made headlines recently for another reason entirely. That, of course, would be the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight 370. But with the two events coming together, something's going to have to give, and unfortunately in this case, it's the grieving families of the flight's passengers.
The clash came to a head when the Scuderia Ferrari came to town to set up for next weekend's race. Team members were booked to stay at the Cyberview Hotel in the capital of Kuala Lumpur, arrangements which F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone points out were likely to have been made long ago. The trouble is that over a dozen relatives of MH370 passengers who had come in from China were still staying at that hotel while awaiting word on their loved ones' fates, and with the hotel apparently filling up fast ahead of the grand prix weekend, those family members were forced to leave.
Just where they've gone, we don't know, but while the development may not look good for Ferrari or for F1, it strikes us as one of those unfortunate situations where no one is really to blame. The race has been booked for months, the team likely made their reservations long before the flight went missing, the hotel is obliged to honor the reservations and the grieving families need somewhere to stay. The tendency to point fingers often prevails, but in this situation we're afraid no one is to blame but the circumstances. That, and the still as-yet unknown cause of the flight's mysterious disappearance.
