This magnificent rolling work of art and engineering tour de force currently located in Casa Grande, Arizona, is Calspyder's breath-taking recreation of a '1959-'63 Ferr@ri GT 250 C@lifornia Spyder. It was built by Dr. Mike Renucci, PhD.(eng.), who was the former head of Jaguar when it was a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. Completed in late 2010, the car has only 2500 miles and it was previously prominently featured in Kit Car Magazine as the "SUPER SPYDER". It is the most powerful, fast, luxurious, and sophisticated GT that Calspyder has built to date. Any original Ferrari GT 250 Spyder that was built back in the early 1960's is now rightly a museum piece worth millions. Less than 50 are known to still exist. The original version's power plant was a 3.0 L, 240-260 hp, SOHC V-12 engine with down-draft Webers. Despite the beautiful lines penned by Pinninfarina at the time, the original version was not really considered to be a technologically sophisticated vehicle, even when first introduced. The original GT 250 had many significant mechanical limitations if one were to compare it to a contemporary competitor from the same era, such as Jaguar's superlative XKE. The original GT 250 was hampered by a solid live rear axle, a 4-speed NON-synchromesh transmission, 4 wheel drum brakes, and it even had an imprecise worm and sector steering gear. This Super Spyder now for sale is mechanically superior to the original version in every conceivable way, but at only a fraction of the cost. This car is docile when driven judiciously, but it is VERY FAST. During engineering tests conducted in Arizona, it was confirmed that THE SUPER SPYDER WAS FASTER THAN A ZR1 IN THE QUARTER MILE AND TOP END! The Super Spyder has the following special features: - VIN 124BS10043340
-560bhp, 427cid, fuel injected, Windsor block, Smeding engine with roller rockers and cam. -Oversize aluminum racing radiator. -4 wheel disc brakes. -Rack and Pinion steering gear. -Richmond Gear Racing Super 5 speed (with Overdrive). -2.47 rear gear for ULTRA-HIGH SPEED HIGHWAY CRUISING and 20 mpg on highway. -Independent rear suspension by C.W.I. with inboard rear discs. -Bullet proof integrated 9 inch limited slip pumpkin. -Air conditioned with R-2 coolant and modern Sanden compressor. -Beautiful wood dash accents. -True pin drive knock-off wire wheels, including spare which is mounted in the trunk. -Period correct gauges, including H20 temp, oil pressure, oil temp, voltmeter, fuel, etc. -Striking medium metallic blue paint. This beautiful color was a period correct option. -Period correct leather seats and dash. -Modern retractable seat belts. -Windshield wipers with washer -Wilton wool carpets. -Detailed trunk and engine compartment. -AM/FM/ CD stereo. (You can understand "the why" when I tell you I've NEVER turned it on!) -Electric lift antennae. -Electric lift windows. -Passenger side glove box -Perfectly working canvas top. -Integrated Battery Tender with trunk plug in (all you need is an extension cord) -Complete, correct, period Ferr@ri and Pinnin badges. Spring time is approaching and now's the time to get the convertible and enjoy the season. The only reason I'm selling is because we have a Tesla Model S being delivered and we have too many toys for the space available. We've loved this car and want it to go to a great home. Please feel free to email me or call if you have questions or would like to come preview the car. 77O-5 nine 5-four 387. The Odo has stuck at 899 miles however we've put about 2500 total miles on it. Oil was done last month and Transmission Fluid done 3 tanks of gas ago. Serious inquiries only. Seller reserves right to end item early as it is also for sale locally. Deposit of $1000 is due upon winning auction with balance due before taking delivery of the vehicle. I'm happy to help with coordinating shipping however shipping is the buyers responsibility. I have a couple of recommendations if needed. Driver, track worker survive horrific Ferrari 458 crash at Suzuka
Tue, 14 May 2013Two people are lucky to be alive after a brutal crash during a recent Ferrari 458 Challenge event in Japan. Driver Shigeru Terajima lost control of his machine on the Suzuka Circuit start/finish straight, left the course at nearly 200 miles per hour and struck the inside wall where a corner worker was standing and monitoring the race. The 458 immediately disintegrated, sending bits of carbon fiber bodywork, suspension components, wheels and tires scattering into the infield and across the race course. The passenger cell spun through the air before coming to a stop on its roof.
Miraculously, both Terajima and the corner worker survived the incident. While the driver was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, he's expected to make a full recovery. The track worker, meanwhile, saw the incident coming and dove out of harm's way at the last possible moment, saving him from the brunt of the impact. 'Sensual but also logical': Ferrari's Flavio Manzoni opines on design at London exhibit
Mon, Nov 27 2017Ferrari design boss Flavio Manzoni was in London this week for the opening of a five-month exhibition on the famous Italian brand, part of its 70th-anniversary celebrations, at the world-famous Design Museum. So Autoblog jumped at the chance to ask the man behind the La Ferrari, FXX, 488 GTB and more about his design approach and inspirations, and also what he thinks about designing a Ferrari SUV, or even an EV. Manzoni, 52, is pleasingly Italian in manner and accented English. Passionate and forthright, he has strong views on what makes good design in general and for Ferrari in particular. Having increased the importance of the brand's Styling Centre considerably since becoming head of design in 2010, the now 80-strong team increasingly creates new vehicles in-house (as opposed to using former independent design company Pininfarina). The first project Manzoni fully oversaw within Ferrari was the La Ferrari. He's a firm believer in form following function, "but not in a German way," he says with a smile, citing the side of the 488 GTB, which is shaped by the need to divert air in a certain way around the car and also to look fantastic. As he declares: "You'd never find lines on a Ferrari just for decoration. The scoop on the 488 GTB is sensual but also logical." As another example, he says that his "latest baby," the track-focused FXX K Evo, took a different path from the very engineering-focused Enzo of 2002, designed well before he joined the company. "We worked for eight months with the engineers on the FXX, to keep the functionality and make it beautiful." In Manzoni's job, it would be impossible not to respect Ferrari's incredible back catalog — he owns a Gandini-designed Ferrari 208 GT4, "still very beautiful, but iconic as well" — but he's no slave to the past. "Deja vu is something we don't like," he says with a slightly scolding look. "We don't agree with nostalgia or the need to create a family feeling throughout our range. But a Ferrari must be recognizable without the badge. There are different ways to do this — not just in details like the headlamps, but sometimes in how you treat the surfaces. It's tricky to explain, but it's a feeling." View 12 Photos He's also not keen on following industry trends and has historically spoken out against luxury SUVs. "Every time we work on a new Ferrari, we try to improve on every aspect — including the center of gravity — so an SUV is not a Ferrari," he stated as recently as 2015.
Ferrari 458 Speciale buyers told to spec options to secure orders
Tue, Nov 25 2014Want to get your hands on a Ferrari 458 Speciale? You're in good company, because demand for what could be the last naturally aspirated V8 supercar from Maranello is apparently soaring. As a result, some buyers who've already placed their orders are reportedly being "advised" to add on extra options or risk losing their place on the waiting list to someone who will. The news comes from UK-based Magnitude Finance, whose director Tim Marlow said, "One client ordered the car many months ago but he was subsequently advised to increase the options he selected to guarantee delivery simply because others are prepared to go pay over the odds to get one new." Another Magnitude client was asked by the dealer "on five occasions to say others wanted to buy it if he changed his mind." Reached for comment, Ferrari spokesperson Krista Florin told Autoblog: "As with any Ferrari, customization is offered as a service to make each car unique. However, there are no requirements in order to secure an order." The options list on the 458 Speciale can add up fast. Active headlights add over $2,500 to the price, fitted luggage nearly $11k, leather interior and front lift system a solid $6k each and those NART stripes another $11k. Ordering items like the engine cover ($7.8k), rear diffuser ($9.6k) and outer sill cover ($10k) in carbon fiber can add to the $288k base price as quick as the Speciale can gather pace. That's how our recent tester ended up topping $336k – and that's if we could actually get one. Part of the demand is surely coming from moneyed enthusiasts keen to take possession of one of the finest mid-engined supercars Ferrari has ever made, but the demand and values are surely being driven up as well by speculators. "Everyone we speak to sees this as the next appreciating model over the long-term like the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia 16M before it," added Marlow, "so demand is really high." We can only imagine that demand has been even higher for the convertible version, as Ferrari will only make 499 examples of the 458 Speciale A, putting the roadster in an even more rarified class. Ferrari 458 Speciale demand (Leeds: UK. November 2014). Customers are going to extraordinary lengths to buy the Ferrari 458 Speciale, luxury car finance specialist, Magnitude Finance, reveals. Earmarked as a potential collector's item, some prospective buyers have been told a GBP20,000 deposit would only put them on a list of 'possible clients' but not guarantee an order.
