Nero (Black) Metallic Exterior with Tan Interior; 22,793 Miles (36,682 km); 5-Speed Manual; Tubi Exhaust; Tons of Records from New; Regular Maintenance; Excellent/Straight Car; Euro Model Imported New in 1984; Full EPA/DOT Papers.

This 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole was imported into the USA when new by the current owner in 1984. All EPA/DOT requirements were sorted properly in 1984. Meticulous records of this process were kept, including all correspondence. A binder with all this information is with the car. The current owner enjoyed and maintained the car until selling it locally in 1994. From 1994-1998, the Ferrari continued to be properly maintained and was treated to a suspension upgrade (Theiler sway bars/bushings & springs), Tubi exhaust, upgraded steering wheel (Momo Corse), and an in-dash Blaupunkt Ventura CD83 stereo. In 1998, the Ferrari was purchased back by Fox Motorsports for the original owner. It has remained under our fastidious care for the original owner ever since. It lives in climate-controlled storage and on a battery trickle charger when not in use. It has never seen salt or snow and has had very few miles put on the car over that past 11 years.

It is finished in Nero (black) Metallic with a tan interior, a welcome departure from the all too common Rosso Corsa (red). The exterior is excellent, benefitting from annual detailing regardless of miles. A repaint of the front spoiler and fenders was performed in early 1994. The removable ‘GTS’ roof panel is in excellent shape and installs/removes easily and properly. The interior is excellent as well, due to careful owners and regular treatment of the leather. The seats are near new and the controls throughout show very little wear. The only wear of note is around the ignition trim ring, on the rim of the Momo steering wheel, and on the clock’s glass cover.  The power windows, headlights, indicators, driving lights, etc. all function properly.

The 15,000-mile service was performed (including timing belt, etc) in 1994 (12,432 km) at Lake Forest Sports Cars (LFSC) in Illinois. LFSC also documented the replacement of the original speedometer, which had just failed at 12,432 kilometers (included with car). A new speedometer, also in kilometers, was installed and the driver’s doorsill was correctly tagged to reflect that change. In 2003 at 35,316 km (total), a 30,000-mile service, including timing belts and water pump, was performed. Regular maintenance has been done annually by Fox Motorsports (regardless of miles) including: oil, brake fluid, and coolant changes.  A new set of tires were installed in May of 2011 (Bridgestone Potenza SO-2), as the previous tires were over 10 years old.  Included with the Ferrari are books, records, tool kit, jack, warning triangle, spare wheel/tire, and seat covers.

2014 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Tue, 18 Feb 2014

Most cardiologists and physiologists maintain that a human's maximum heart rate is calculated with a mathematical formula: subtract a person's age from 220. But some leading doctors are now questioning the established academics, which trace their origins back to 1970, claiming that a simple formula isn't accurate for people of all ages, in particular those who are older. Rather than endorse the time accepted calculation, this progressive group argues that maximum heart rate equals 208 minus 0.7 times age.
While medical science continues its debate, I recently discovered a more elementary approach that disregards age and physical condition, and it requires no math.
To reveal a human's true maximum heart rate, I propose strapping test subjects into the driver's seat of a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and then firing up its ferocious V12.

Ferrari 250 GT California could be your day off for $8 million

Thu, 26 Dec 2013

Vintage Ferraris consistently top the list of the most expensive cars ever sold. In private treaty sales, the 250 GTO is king, but even at public auctions, it's the horses that prance the highest. After the Mercedes W196 grand prix racer that set the world record this past July at nearly $30 million, the list of eight-figure sales is populated almost entirely by Ferraris: a 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder for $27.5 million, the pair of '57 Testa Rossas that sold separately a few years ago for $17 and $13 million apiece, the 250 LM recently went for over $14 million and the 250 GT SWB California Spider that sold in 2008 for $11 million.
Now RM Auctions has another California - this time a long-wheelbase model - on consignment for its upcoming sales in Arizona, where it is expected to fetch between $7 and $9 million. The 11th of only 50 made, chassis number 1055 GT features matching numbers, in red over black with those highly-coveted covered headlamps from the factory. It was delivered new in 1958 to Texas and was owned by some prominent Ferrari collectors and historians across the United States.
It underwent a comprehensive restoration in 1994 before taking the top prize in its class at the Cavallino Classic and has made the rounds of numerous other concours. It's spent the last few years in northern Europe and is now being put up for auction. "It is so choice," as our childhood friend Ferris would say. "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up." Check it out in the gallery of achingly gorgeous photos above and the details in the auction listing below.

LaFerrari design secrets explored at Ferrari museum

Thu, 01 Aug 2013

For every finished vehicle design we see, there are probably hundreds of drawings and models that have long since been discarded. Housed in its own room inside the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, the LaFerrari has a unique exhibit that shows off some of the car's design evolution, and Autocar caught up with Ferrari design director Flavio Manzoni for an even deeper look at what went into creating this hybrid supercar.
In addition to the final product, the LaFerrari exhibit also reveals some of the designs that didn't make the cut - two of which made it to the full-size scale model phase, though. The display shows off five different designs (three from Ferrari and two from Pininfarina) that were in the running to become the final LaFerrari.
The interview with Manzoni even adds in some juicy bits of info, including news that one of the potential LaFerrari designs has been locked away and could resurface as a special, one-off model. Manzoni gets in a couple of good quotes while voicing his opposition of the current retro design language currently being used by some automakers, as well. Check it all out in the video below.
