2005 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Base Standard Cargo Van 3-door 2.7l on 2040-cars

2005 Dodge Sprinter was running great until,, a minimum wage mechanic got a hold of it.
Original problem, needed an oil change.
What I got back was a van that will not start, needing 2 injectors and a glowplug.

Great running engine, used about 1qt every 9000 to 10000 miles, plenty of power, monthly coast to coast trips, mpg in the mid to upper 20s,
jasper transmission had just started to have the common rpm flare between 2nd and 3rd shift under moderate acceleration. and needed
a steering position sensor for the ESP (wheelspin) control

Had a check engine light for one of the glowplugs, they offered to change while it was there, WRONG.

Number 1 glowplug snapped, 2 days to extract it, got it running and somehow stripped the threads in the head and shot it out.
then tapped out the stripped hole and plugged it with a bolt and wasn't notified of the botch repair but to bring it back for the new glowplug,
after a short 2500 mile trip. Second mistake, I took it back to them.

This time they noticed that number 2 injector was leaking (compression) never touched the glowplug problem, and continued to run up my bill to cover their losses
Anyway apparently he dis-assembled number two injector to remove it, lost some of the super small parts, put it back together, reseated. started the engine and
didn't run right, then took apart number one injector to figure out what he had missed and lost those parts. now it wont start at all, CODE P0087  basically the injectors are dumping fuel.

Now it needs two injectors but,,, you also need a DRBIII with a Sprinter card to program the new injectors to the computer which nobody around here has.
And those injectors only had 50,000 miles on them. So I'm stuck with a non-runner and no time to mess with it.

Up until now it has been the best van I had ever owned, just a shame they dont build this type anymore.
It was to be on IL, AZ, VA, trip this week.

Currently at my house about 45 min. SW of Peoria, towed in on a U-haul dolly and a half ton, its just over 5000lbs empty,(yes, insanity can be pretty insane sometimes) needs to be towed out.
Two owner, Always owner driven, never a fleet truck. Clean, Clear title in my name.

Top torque-to-weight ratios under $100k, $50k and $25k

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force represents the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff.
It follows then, that as with the horsepower-to-weight list that we assembled for you a few months ago, a list of cars that offer the most pound-feet with the fewest pounds to carry, is an interesting one to break down. Sure, there's a big difference in how the torque is applied from a turbocharged six-cylinder in a Swedish luxury sedan and a massive heavy-duty truck's turbo-diesel. But being the car/stat geeks that we are, we think it's kinda neat that those two vehicles rank near each other where torque and weight intersect.
As with the horsepower list, we've given you figures as pounds per every one pound-foot. Again broken down into broad price categories, we've got a mixed bag of 2014 and 2015 models here, too. Every effort has been made to select the most up-to-date prices and specs, and we've also to omitted some '14 cars that won't be re-upped after the ongoing yearly changeover.

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.

Dodge Viper recall requires small-handed mechanics

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

It has been over a year since Chrysler first announced its recall of 3,660 2003-2004 Dodge Vipers because the airbag could suddenly deploy. The repairs are finally beginning, and it appears to be a nightmare for mechanics.
According to the automaker's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the airbag control module can fail, which causes the bag or the seatbelt pre-tensioner to deploy without warning. It took over a year to design the new parts, according to The New York Times. However, Chrysler finally has a new "jumper harness with an in-line diode filter circuit" ready to fix the problem.
The dilemma now moves to the mechanics who have to actually install the part. A 47-step guide from Chrysler explains that the procedure should take about two hours. It's not an easy job, though. Most of the dashboard has to be taken apart, and the instructions include this helpful bit of advice: "Installing the jumper harness and filter box into position is not an easy task. Patience, perseverance, and small hands are required." We wish the best of luck to them. The fix comes just in time for the Vipers to enjoy the summer sun.
