2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Video Review | Apex predator

The first time I stepped behind the wheel of the 2018 Dodge Demon, I was pointed down a drag strip, Christmas tree just in view through my full-face helmet. My heart was racing with a mix of nervous anticipation and raw excitement. Since the teasers for this car started rolling out in January, I'd wanted to drive Dodge's monster. This 840-horsepower hunk of steel and plastic was a rolling middle finger to EVs, carbon emissions and global warming. Only in America. The sensation was wholly unique. More so than anything, I noticed the sheer force as I was pushed back into my seat. Watch the video. And here's another one. If it looks like I'm just hanging on, it's because I am. In retrospect, I should have been sitting more upright, but I was trying to watch the revs to get the perfect launch using the transbrake. Still, I managed to get a bit of air between the front tires and the drag strip, if only for a moment. Aside from the sheer force, the most memorable thing was the sound. The scream from the supercharger nearly drowns out everything else. Just beneath that you can hear the 6.2-liter Hemi V8 kicking and screaming a song that sounds like the Devil's own chorus. 2015 Dodge Challenger crash test results slip from last year's model

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released the results of its latest round of crash testing, announcing that the 2015 Dodge Challenger has netted a five-star overall crash rating. Of course, Chrysler won't want us to tell you this, but that NHTSA overall rating is not the whole story here. As The Car Connection so astutely points out, five-star rating aside, the refreshed 2015 Challenger actually performed worse than when it was tested back in 2013. The V6-powered SXT model tested by NHTSA in this latest round of testing was only able to record a four-star rating in its frontal crash test, while it nailed a five-star rating in the side-impact test. The 2013 Challenger managed a five-star rating in the frontal test. Of course, while this rating is a sign of overall good news for Challenger fans, the car, as TCC argues, has yet to be tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It'll be interesting to see if these NHTSA ratings translate to an IIHS Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus. Scroll down for the full press release from FCA. FCA recalls 15k Grand Cherokees, Durangos over brake issues

The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 14,768 examples of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, both from the 2015 and 2016 model years, and built between December 9, 2015, and January 14, 2016. The Problem: The left front brake caliper on some vehicles may have been made from the wrong type of iron, and could be prone to crack. A cracked brake caliper may not function properly. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The problem was discovered by the automaker during testing. The fix: Dealers will need to check the casting date of the component in question, and if necessary, replace the brake caliper. The schedule for carrying out the recall service has yet to be outlined. If you own one: Expect to hear from the manufacturer to arrange an appointment with your local dealer. CONSEQUENCE: A cracked brake caliper may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front left brake caliper and depending on its casting date, replace it, free of charge.
