1996 Dodge Ram 3500

These trucks are getting harder and harder to find, especially with all the options this one has to offer. You are looking at a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 with the legendary 12 valve 5.9L Cummins diesel motor. To back up the powerhouse, this truck has the highly sought after 5 speed manual transmission. It does not get any better than this. This truck is a long bed dually and it is a pulling machine. You will find these trucks everywhere that have been run the life out of, but not this one. This is basically a mechanically bone stock 12 valve. The only thing I have modified is the looks of the truck. I use the truck for hauling, and it does what I expect it to do and beyond. I wanted a great looking truck that I could get in and drive across country if needed, and this is the truck.

Below is a list of what makes this truck:

-         VIN: 1B7MC36C5TS586974

-         12 Valve 5.9L Cummins Diesel

-         New 5 speed manual transmission (less than 10,000 miles)

-         New Factory replacement clutch (less than 10,000 miles)

-         New brakes (rotors and pads)

-         New ball joints

-         New idler arm

-         New belt

-         New pitman arm

-         New steering stabilizer

-         New Valvoline synthetic fluids bumper to bumper

-         In-bed gooseneck ball hitch

-         Plastic bed liner

-         Cold AC

-         RECON LED Cab clearance lights

-         RECON LED Fender marker lights

-         RECON LED 3rd brake light

-         Black housing LED trail lights

-         Black housing head lights (with bright blue bulbs)

-         New Michelin tires (less than 1,000 miles)

-         New Rockstar dually wheels (less than 1,000 miles)

-         Lowered 2” in the front and 6” in the rear (all leafs are still present)

-         New white paint job (grille and bumper painted to match)

-         5% tint with 35% on windshield

-         Straight piped exhaust with 4” MBRP tip

-         New In-Dash 7” flip-up TV/DVD/MPS/Ipod/Sirus

-         CLEAN AND CLEAR TITLE IN HAND

-         CARFAX INCLUDED

The BAD:

-         245,XXX miles.

-         Leaks oil (if a 12 valve does not leak oil, then the motor is dry)

-         Driver’s side window switches short every now and then. Windows roll up and down just fine.

-         Paint is not a $10,000 paint job. However, it does look good.

-         Interior does not look as good as the exterior.

-         Heater core is by-passed (probably a bad heater core).

-         Parking brake does not work.

-         Trailer wiring is not in place.

-         Dash is cracked and drivers seat is torn.

I’m sure I am forgetting a few things. As you can tell, I have invested thousands into this truck in order to make it the perfect road hauling machine. It looks slick as could be driving down the road with or without a trailer, and that is exactly what I wanted. This truck does have 245,XXX miles and yes, it does leak oil; it is a 12 valve Cummins. It does not pour oil but it certainly marks its spot when you let it sit overnight. I would not be afraid to jump in this truck today and drive it across the country.

This is NOT a show truck. It is a truck that is made to work but still look good while doing so. This is my 5th Cummins, and every one I have owned has had over 300,000 miles. How long these motors last depends on how well they are maintained. This one will last 500,000 miles without a doubt.

Bob Bondurant driving school closes a month after entering Chapter 11

Tue, Nov 13 2018

On Oct. 2, the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In its filing, the 50-year-old racing school said it owed between 50 and 99 creditors an amount between $1 million and $10 million, and had $1 million to $10 million. The school released a statement at the time saying, "Our plan is to emerge from this process as a stronger company and continue to drive this company into the next 50 years." Instead, on Monday, Nov. 12, the Chandler, Arizona-based facility closed its doors with no official explanation. On top of its classes for aspiring racers, law enforcement authorities, and general population students, Bondurant has been the official driving school for Dodge SRT vehicles since 2015. Over the past two years, Dodge has included a one-day training course for any SRT buyers and lessees, redeemable within a year after finalizing the deal for the vehicle. To read the tale of one Hellcat owner at the Hellcat.org forum, even the school's instructors didn't see the closure coming. Forum member Av62nv arrived at Bondurant Monday to start his four-day experience. After a lengthy pause in the middle of the day, Av62nv wrote that the instructor walked in and told the class, "Sorry guys, don't know how to say this, but as some may know the school is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and it looks like 7 now. We are closed." Another poster in the forum, CubeMan, wrote that "Technicians and staff loaded their toolboxes, and paychecks have apparently bounced." Apparently family scion Jason Bondurant arrived and tried to explain; the short of it was that the good thing had come to an abrupt end, but there was "a chance it could come back." Other posters in the forum noted how they have reservations as far out as June 2019, or haven't been able to get to their classes yet because of delivery delays with their SRT cars, and have no idea what's happening. The website is still up, but a Bondurant spokesman confirmed the closure to Classic Cars, and a note on the school door reads, "School is closed. Direct all inquiries to Pat Bondurant." Pat is Bob Bondurant's wife, who married the former race driver in 2010 at the Monaco Grand Prix. A month ago, Bondurant's Chapter 11 bankruptcy statement said, "We will continue operating and serving our students and corporate groups as usual while we develop new business relationships to ensure the vitality of the company in the future." Obviously, that won't happen.

The Dodge Demon isn't the only way to a 10-second quarter mile

Tue, Jul 25 2017

The Demon's rear tires smoke, the front tires lift – and in under ten seconds (after having spent $85,000) you've covered a quarter mile. In short, we fully get the attention shown Dodge's SRT Demonstrator. With disruption the operative word of the times, it's good to see a representative of the movement coming from Detroit. The SRT Demon delivers disruption in spades. There is, however, a viable alternative – and it doesn't require getting on the list at your Dodge dealer. If you want to do 0-60 in under three seconds or the quarter mile in around 10, the folks at Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha – with any of their one-liter superbikes – have you covered. The gestation of what we now know as the superbike came roughly a decade after the debut of the muscle car. It was in the early '70s, as emission and safety regulations – along with rising insurance premiums – decimated the ranks of Detroit's fastest that motorcycle makers found their magical, almost mystical momentum. Honda's CB750 four was arguably the first, followed soon by Kawasaki's Mach III and Z-1. After that, it was Katie-bar-the-door, with more horsepower offered by Japanese OEMs until, invariably, insurance premiums went higher and, during the last recession, 20-somethings couldn't get affordable loans or insurance. Today, Japan's Big Four are once again engaged in a horsepower war, fueled by the rising interest in MotoGP, along with the rising profits available when selling a $20,000 motorcycle. And if that $20,000 - $10K per wheel – seems high, simple math tells you it's less than half of what you'll spend per corner if buying Dodge's Demon. The specs tell the tale. The Demon, fattened by both its flared fenders and a platform dating from the George Bush administration, supports its 4,200+ pounds on a wheelbase of 116 inches. That's in contrast to Suzuki's GSX-R1000 – redesigned for 2017 – which puts its 443 pounds atop a wheelbase of just 56 inches. To maximize its Hemi-supplied 800+ horsepower, Dodge diverts the air conditioning from the Demon's interior to the engine, which makes racing on a summer evening (you guessed it) devilishly hot. On Suzuki's GSX-R1000 – or similarly-equipped superbikes – almost all of the air at 100+ miles per hour is directed at you. To further underscore the differences, know that the GSX-R1000 and its like-minded competition can turn a quick corner, while the Demon is hard-pressed to execute a U-turn at the end of a quarter-mile straightaway.

FCA recalling 63k Jeeps, Vipers and Ram ProMaster City vans

Thu, Apr 23 2015

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced a pair of recalls cover nearly 63,000 vehicles. The bigger of the two actions covers manual-transmission-equipped vehicles from 2006, including the Jeep Liberty and Wrangler, as well as the Dodge Viper. FCA engineers uncovered that the clutch ignition interlock switches use a kind of wire that was part of a previous recall campaign. Because of this, the company said that affected vehicles may not start, although in rare cases, "if recommended starting procedures are not followed," the affected vehicles may lurch forward after turning the key. Those recommended starting procedures "include activating the parking brake, placing the shift lever in neutral and pressing the clutch pedal before turning the vehicle's ignition key." Recall number two affects the company's 2015 Ram ProMaster City cargo and passenger vans. Owners will need to report to dealers to have a piece of tape removed from the side-curtain airbags. The tape is added during assembly and in some cases, may not have been removed. That could prevent the airbags from deploying in the event of a crash. Just under 59,000 vehicles are included in the first recall, including 43,874 in the United States, 11,309 outside of North America, 2,944 in Canada and 706 in Mexico. The ProMaster City recall includes just over 3,900 vehicles. FCA claims it's unaware of any injuries, fatalities or accidents related to either recall and will perform repairs free of charge. Scroll down for the official press release on both campaigns. Related Video: Statement: Clutch Ignition Interlock Switch April 23, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is launching a voluntary recall of an estimated 43,874 older-model U.S.-market cars and SUVs equipped with manual transmissions. The Company will replace their clutch ignition interlock switches at no charge to customers. The action follows an investigation by FCA US engineers that discovered these vehicles are equipped with switches that contain a certain type of wire implicated in a previous campaign. The wire, which was temporarily substituted by a supplier for the specified material, may break. As a result, the vehicles may not start, and in rare cases – if recommended starting procedures are not followed – a vehicle may exhibit unintended movement when its ignition key is turned. FCA US is unaware of aware of any related injuries or accidents involving this population of vehicles.
