1981 DODGE CUMMINS CREW CAB

Body This body was stripped of all paint, epoxy primed, and meticulously straightened. Every panel was painted inside and outside off the vehicle in prowler orange pearl (no tape edges).  Water sanded and buffed to mirror finish.  All the panels were 100% rust free and extremely nice.  There are many new OEM parts - wheel flairs, grill, grill inserts, tailgate, window felts, door gaskets, battery tray, rear door glasses, vent glasses, felt runs, and rear bumper.  A Buckstop Winch Bumper with KC lights, tow hooks, and receiver was added to complete the front end.  This vehicle has been driven 4,000 miles since completion of frame up rebuild.

Mechanical:  The engine has 88,000 miles.  It has been completely regasketed, repainted, all belts, hoses, and accessories we replaced - water pump, fuel pump, alternator, A/C compressor/condenser, starter, radiator, master cylinder and brake booster, and wiper motor.  The battery cables (neg. and pos.) A/C lines, cruise control module, throttle and cruise cables, down pipe have all been replaced with brand new OEM replacements.  The injection pump and injectors were freshly rebuild upon installation.  The motor is stock with the exception of fuel pin and throttle spring.  Runs EXCELLENT and pulls strong.  Very impressive!  The transmission, drive shafts, rears, brakes, brake lines, fuel lines, fuel sending unit were all rebuilt or replaced.  This truck is equipped with 4.10 gears, warn premium hubs, aluminum dif covers, and limited slip rear.  All new bearings, seals, and races in everything. A 3 in Gibson exhaust system with a very tasteful stainless steel tip was installed along with brand new MOPAR exhaust hangers.

Interior:  The interior has been completely redone. New carpet, headliners, built in DVD player, CD player, seat belts, sill plates, weather guard floor mats, brand new MOPAR steering wheel, turn signal stick, heater control valve.

This truck was meticulously rebuilt from the frame up with no bolt being unturned.  It was always meant to be a keeper.  It will be offered this ONE TIME ONLY for sale.  For any further details or questions call Tom 804-837-4527.

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Dodge Shadow America

Tue, Aug 2 2016

A quarter-century ago, most Americans looking for a cheap transportation appliance went for cars like the miserably-stripped-down-but-bulletproof Toyota Tercel or the feature-laden-but-reliability-challenged Hyundai Excel. Chrysler, having just discontinued the elderly "Omnirizon" platform, took the Dodge Shadow and its Plymouth sibling, the Sundance and offered a car that was bigger, more powerful, and better-equipped than just about anything else for the price: the America! These cars depreciated hard and nearly all were crushed a decade ago, so sightings are extremely rare today. Here's one that I found in a Northern California self-service yard. This one still had windshield paperwork indicating that it was an insurance-company auction car (probably totaled in a fender-bender that caused $200 worth of damage) and that it was a runner at the time it got junked. Such is the fate of 24-year-old economy cars in rough shape. The Shadow was a member of the many-branched K-Car family tree, and the Shadow America came with the same 2.2-liter straight-4 engine that powered millions of Caravans, Daytonas, New Yorkers, and Lasers. You got more torque than the competition, plus a driver's-side airbag instead of the maddening automatic seat belts found in other low-priced cars of 1992. Of course, the paint tended to peel off within a few years and the build quality of the Shadow was hit-or-miss, but these cars were way nicer to drive than, say, a Tercel EZ or Subaru Justy. Dodge performance could be electrified, new hybrid transmissions coming

Mon, Jul 8 2019

Dodge is arguably the last company around specializing in old-school muscle cars. Outside of a few models like the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and the new e-Torque offerings in the Ram 1500 and Jeep Wrangler, FCA as a whole seems behind the ball when it comes to green or electrified powertrains. That might change over the next few years, as Tim Kuniskis, head of passenger cars at FCA, told Automotive News that he sees the future of performance to be electrified.  At the reveal of the Dodge Charger Hellcat Widebody a few weeks back, Kuniskis said "the absolute future is electrification of these cars." What form this takes or how soon this all might happen is unclear, but changes are likely coming. Kuniskis said the electrified models could be anything from pure battery-electric vehicles to plug-in hybrids to e-axles. FCA’s e-torque system already works with the companyÂ’s Hemi V8 in the Ram 1500, so, if thereÂ’s room in the engine bay, we imagine it would be pretty easy to adapt the mild-hybrid system for other V8-powered vehicles.  One thing to note is that FCA just inked a new deal with ZF. The latter will supply a new 8-speed automatic transmission for longitudinal front-engine cars that will work with both rear and all-wheel drive vehicles. FCA already uses a version of the ZF 8HP automatic, but the big thing to note is that the new transmission has a small electric drive unit built in. If this new transmission is as ubiquitous as the current one, you might find electrified versions of Alfa Romeo and Maserati products as well as those from Dodge, Jeep and Ram. This seems in line with what was announced in last yearÂ’s five-year plan.

Cruise Woodward Avenue with Autoblog's Dodge Challenger Hellcat

Thu, Aug 20 2015

While Autoblog was consumed by coverage of the increasingly important Monterey Car Week last weekend, there was another big even going on. The Woodward Dream Cruise is significantly lighter in terms of news, but there's no denying that it's a far bigger, and far more egalitarian than what the wine-and-cheese crowd experience on the links at Pebble Beach. The Dream Cruise crams tens of thousands of cars and over a million spectators along a four-lane ribbon of asphalt between Ferndale and Pontiac, MI. What's remarkable aren't these numbers, though, so much as the distances they travel. Owners and admirers come from far and wide, across the United States and in some cases across the globe, to take in the spectacle. This year, local radio and television coverage featured fans that traveled from Japan, Australia, and Europe, just to take in the cruise. Of course, we realize that not everyone can make the pilgrimage to Woodward Avenue. With that fact in mind, we decided to bring a bit of the Dream Cruise to Autoblog with a time-lapse video of the cruise route. You can experience the good (a Lamborghini Gallardo, Chevrolet Chevelle, and Oldsmobile Cutlass 442), the bad (the traffic jams), and the ugly (no, your 2003 Ford Focus does not qualify as a classic, get the hell out of the cruiser lanes). So join us, as we turn off 8 Mile Road behind the wheel of our 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and run north, through Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak, Huntington Woods, Berkley, Bloomfield Township, and Bloomfield Hills, before ending up on Wide Track Drive in Pontiac.
