Nice 1973 Dodge Power Wagon D100 Adventurer Sport 4x4.  This truck has a very strong 360 with upgraded RV Cam and Port Fuel Injection, 727 Automatic Transmission.  Transfer Case is a NP 205 with Warn Lockouts, Dana 44  (part-time 4wd), 8 3/4 Sure-Grip Rear End.  Very solid old truck lifelong Colorado truck and everything works as it should.  Truck originally had A/C but was removed to add the Port Fuel Injection which performs flawlessly.  This truck spent most of it's time owned by a local small town school district, then it was donated to that school's automotive shop class where they updated some items on the truck, the port fuel injection being one of them.  Truck sounds great, no noises, smoke or issues.  Transmission shifts great and the 4wd works like it should.  Very solid truck, has older paint, looks good from 20 feet away, but has some scratches, chips and small dings. Some parts of the truck appear to have been painted although some time ago.  The truck still gets compliments wherever I take it.  New wheels with good LT265/75R16 tires, Brand New Windshield and oil change this week, truck is ready to go.  It has the 8 foot bed with an ARE Fiberglass locking bed cover and a convenient slide out bed.  All lights, factory gauges, aftermarket gauges, aftermarket tach, horn, radio, wipers, dome light, turn signals, brake lights, dash lights, heater work perfectly.  All the glass is in very nice condition.  Has a white headliner and sunvisors that are also in excellent condition the original seat does have a couple of separations where the driver would sit.  The door panels are in excellent condition as is the dash, no cracks.  All trim is in very nice condition, tailgate trim, side moldings, nice grill, straight shiny front bumper (the first D and the E in the D O D G E script on the hood fell off, I have the E, but can't find the D should be easy to find one).  Very little rust on the truck, just a couple of small spots at each corner of the bed floor by the tail gate.  Hood, tail gate, doors open and close nicely.  This awesome looking truck starts, stops, runs and drives very well, no issues even at 75 mph on the Interstate.  Great truck to restore or leave as is and use for an awesome workhorse.  I have a clean and clear title as well as the Owner's Manual and recent receipts.  These older Power Wagons are getting hard to find in this original unmolested condition.  Please give me a call if you have any questions (719)289-8648 or you can email me.  Also, I would end the auction early for a fair offer and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time as I am going to list the truck here locally.   This is a NO RESERVE Auction!  Thanks for looking and good luck!

Question of the Day: Most heinous act of badge engineering?

Wed, Dec 30 2015

Badge engineering, in which one company slaps its emblems on another company's product and sells it, has a long history in the automotive industry. When Sears wanted to sell cars, a deal was made with Kaiser-Frazer and the Sears Allstate was born. Iranians wanted new cars in the 1960s, and the Rootes Group was happy to offer Hillman Hunters for sale as Iran Khodro Paykans. Sometimes, though, certain badge-engineered vehicles made sense only in the 26th hour of negotiations between companies. The Suzuki Equator, say, which was a puzzling rebadge job of the Nissan Frontier. How did that happen? My personal favorite what-the-heck-were-they-thinking example of badge engineering is the 1971-1973 Plymouth Cricket. Chrysler Europe, through its ownership of the Rootes Group, was able to ship over Hillman Avanger subcompacts for sale in the US market. This would have made sense... if Chrysler hadn't already been selling rebadged Mitsubishi Colt Galants (as Dodge Colts) and Simca 1100s as (Simca 1204s) in its American showrooms. Few bought the Cricket, despite its cheery ad campaign. So, what's the badge-engineered car you find most confounding? How fracking is causing Chrysler minivans to sit on Detroit's riverfront

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.

2.1 million vehicles recalled again over faulty airbags

Sat, Jan 31 2015

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Honda and Toyota will recall 2.1 million vehicles to fix faulty airbag modules "after the manufacturers' original attempts to fix the defects proved ineffective in some vehicles." These vehicles had all previously been recalled, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that the airbags could still potentially malfunction. This recall will cover Acura MDX, Dodge Viper, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Honda Odyssey, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix and Toyota Avalon models made in the early 2000s. NHTSA has reportedly received about 40 reports of airbag deployment in such vehicles, even though the vehicle had not been involved in a crash. Roughly one million of these same vehicles, all from Honda and Toyota, are also subject to recalls due to faulty Takata airbag modules, though this particular recall is for "an electronic component manufactured by TRW" that is separate from the actual airbags from Takata. According to NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind: "This is unfortunately a complicated issue for consumers, who may have to return to their dealer more than once. But this is an urgent safety issue, and all consumers with vehicles covered by the previous recalls should have that remedy installed. Even though it's a temporary solution until the new remedy is available, they and their families will be safer if they take the time to learn if their vehicle is covered and follow their manufacturers' instructions. A hassle is much better than a family tragedy." If you're the owner of an affected car, expect to hear more from the official automaker and government channels in short order. In the meantime, we'd suggest getting your car checked and fixed at your local dealer. The official statement and recall information can be found below. Previously Recalled Vehicle Remedies Not Working as Designed; NHTSA Announces Follow up Recall of 2.12 Million Cars and SUVs Saturday, January 31, 2015 Contact: Gordon Trowbridge, 202-366-9550, Public.Affairs@dot.gov WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced today the recall of more than 2.12 million Acura, Dodge, Jeep, Honda, Pontiac, and Toyota vehicles for a defect that may cause airbags to deploy inadvertently. The recalls will provide vehicle owners with a new remedy after the manufacturers' original attempts to fix the defects proved ineffective in some vehicles.
