 FOR SALE
One of a Kind Custom
1948 Dodge Rat Rod

You are bidding on a custom built street/strip truck.  The 1948 Dodge Pickup truck body has been chopped and is sitting on a a custom built frame that was designed to also mount a 1932 Ford. The engine was built by a local engine builder who regularly builds strip/street and drag engines and races his own cars weekly.  It has less than 100 miles on it because I only drive it occasionally around town.  This unique truck has the following features:
  • Chevy Small Block Engine - bored .030" over making it 355 cubic inches
  • Chevy 350 Turbo Transmission
  • Camaro Front Snout with Disk Brakes
  • 9" Ford Rear End
  • Wired for AC
  • Coil over Shocks
  • Power Windows
  • Aluminum Fuel Cell with Electric Fuel Pump Switch

I have a lot more invested in this than the starting bid.  I have priced it to sell.  This truck runs great.  It turns heads as it is or you can restore it to its original colors.  Because of the high compression engine and cam, it runs on 110 octane fuel or premium gasoline with octane booster.  In addition to the slicks currently installed on the rear of the car, I am including another pair of rear tires that have the tread pattern pictured mounted on the pictured spare rims. Also included is another pair of front rims.  The oil pressure/temperature/voltage gauge set (with the blue scale and orange arrow) was installed to monitor the engine conditions.  No other gauges are connected.

If you like a classic looking truck, the last picture (the photo of the truck with the green cab and black bed) is a picture  of a restored Dodge.  Obviously, that is NOT what this truck looks like.  As it is now, it is a rat rod.  I have been told by some of my friends that it shouldn't be painted because the current trend and highest value is leaving it as is!

The truck is available to be viewed, inspected, and driven.  The truck is for sale locally.  Feel free to ask any questions.  I am not a mechanic or pro, but I will do my best.

This incredibly '90s Dodge Ram video shows roots of the luxury pickup truck

Sat, Oct 3 2020

To paraphrase the Talking Heads, you may find yourself behind the wheel of a Ram 1500 Limited with a 12-inch touchscreen and sumptuous leather, and you may ask yourself, "How did we get here?" Well, some of that credit goes to that loaded Ram's predecessor, the second-generation Dodge Ram. As you'll see in this fascinating promotional video for the truck uploaded by YouTube Channel TheClassicSports, it seems to highlight all the things that make up the modern pickup truck, albeit in a slightly more modest form. Right off the bat, the video starts talking about how the new Ram isn't your traditional pickup. It has features like anti-lock brakes, a spacious, comfortable cabin and standard driver-side airbag. Later, it notes the extensive sound insulation, as well as the cupholders and a giant center console to set up your mobile office, with space for a cell phone and laptop.  But it's not just a comfortable truck. It's a powerful, practical and intimidating one. This Ram is frequently credited as the truck that changed pickup design, moving from simple rectangular boxes to ones with style, particularly semi-truck style. In the video, the host notes that regardless of what people think, "They all call it 'big'." And of course, there's the all-important utility aspect. Highlights include various interior storage bins, slots in the bed to create divided sections, and the critical towing and payload capacities; best-in-class of course. Don't forget the wide array of engines, too, from the base V6 to the unique at the time gas V10 engine. This isn't to say that competitors from Chevy and Ford weren't changing to this more stylish, more well-appointed truck philosophy, either. The mid-'90s Silverado was quite modern, too, with its sleek, if still boxy shape. And the late-'90s F-150 ushered in a sleek, curvy design that has yet to return to the full-size market. But the second-generation Ram really encompasses everything about how the truck market was about to change for the next few decades. Related Video:

Will airbags sandbag the 2017 Dodge Viper?

Thu, Jan 14 2016

The Dodge Viper is speeding down the road to cancellation for the 2017 model year, and at least part of the reason for the V10 monster's death is a problem fitting it with federally mandated side curtain airbags. An anonymous source close to FCA US told Motor Trend the automaker can't install the parts because they would further limit the coupe's already tight headroom. The government believes the side curtain airbags can reduce occupant ejections during accidents, and all vehicles must have them for the 2017 model year. The Viper's slow sales also don't provide FCA US much motivation to work out a solution to this problem. The automaker moved just 676 of the handmade sports coupes in the US in 2015, which was down 11 percent from 760 deliveries in 2014. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne hinted at the Detroit Auto Show that the Viper could return eventually. He doesn't like that the current model has a dedicated platform but indicated a new one could share the underpinnings with another of the company's products. Marchionne's current business plan for FCA stresses building the automaker's value, so it might be a while before we see the sweater-clad CEO focusing on a niche vehicle like the Viper. 1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express in Generation Gap showdown with 1933 Ford Pickup

Fri, 18 Jul 2014

Auto enthusiasts love a good debate, whether it's Mustang versus Camaro or Ferrari against Lamborghini. But how about a battle between two very different vintages of classic pickup trucks? In this case, the fight is between a 1979 Dodge Li'l Red Express and a 1933 Ford Model 46 truck with a flathead V8.
The shootout comes courtesy of the internet series Generation Gap, and its concept is super-simple. One guy prefers classics, and the other likes newer rides. They choose a category, pick two vehicles and put them head to head. In this case, neither is exactly modern, though. The Ford is more than old enough to receive Social Security checks, and the Dodge is hardly a young whippersnapper.
Other than both being pickups, these two models were made to serve very different functions. The Li'l Red Express was basically the progenitor of today's muscle trucks, with a big V8 that made it one of the quickest new models in its day (admittedly, 1979 was a rough time for automotive performance). On the other hand, the '33 Ford was just meant to work, with little pretense for anything else. One of the hosts describes it as "the simplest, most difficult" vehicle he's driven because of the tricky double clutchwork necessary to shift gears. Scroll down to watch the video and try to decide which of these two American classics you would rather have in your garage.
