1978 Dodge D150 Club Cab

Note: This truck is equipped with a 408 Stroker  Engine – Not a 440

This Dodge started out life as a Washington State Parks and Recreation truck.  A few years later, with a blown 318 engine, it went on the auction block.  It was purchased by my Dad and brought back into driving condition with a rebuilt 318 engine and 727 Torqueflite trans.  It was the typical Gray, no AC, bare essentials truck.  He drove it for several  years, changing out the ‘hood ponds’ for an 80 hood.  Then noticing the roof rusting, we sanded it down and repainted it with Black rust proof paint.  Then, in 1996, he and I swapped some vehicles…I needed a truck and he needed a Sedan.  I took the Gray/Black truck with a Brown hood and started to do some changes.

By 2003 I had done the following:

Front floor pans welded in

Radiator Support replaced

Grille reworked/polished

Dakota Digital Dash installed

Automatic antenna installed

Pioneer Stereo installed  w/XM unit

Garmin GPS installed in dash

Custom built Center Console with shifter/storage/cup holders/CD pocket/Center Vents

Saab bucket seats/Recline and are equipped with heaters though they are not connected

‘Vintage Air’ AC and heating system with rotating vents as installed on GT40

Gear Vendors Over/Under 6 speed O/D with Manual foot switch or Auto Mode

17 Inch KMC Tank chrome wheels

Goodyear Wrangler 255/75R17 tires with little to no wear

Bed liner

New chrome front and rear bumpers

Headers with custom crossover pipe and custom exhaust tips

360 Engine stroked to 408CI with forged pistons/moly rings/256H Comp Cam/forged H Beam rods/forged Eagle stroker crankshaft/340 J Heads/Dual Plane intake w/Holley 4bbl

Dual 14 inch Thermostatically controlled electric radiator fans

Painted White with a below belt line Patriot Blue – then covered with Blue Frost Pearl clear coat

Cat III hitch with wiring and under dash Brake Controller

There are two spots of rust that will need repair: the driver door and some small bubbling over RR wheel well

I have approximately 25K miles on the drive train since 2003 and have loved driving every inch of the way.  I also would have no issue with driving this truck from here in Charlotte to Los Angeles to Seattle and back to Charlotte.  The truck does need some TLC and an owner that can give it the attention it deserves.  I don’t drive it enough!!  If the photos do not answer all questions, please see, and hear, videos at:

The best cars we drove this year

Tue, Dec 30 2014

Six hundred and fifty. That's roughly how many cars pass through the hands of Autoblog editors every year, from the vehicles we test here at home, to the cars we drive on new product launches, testing roundups, long-term cars, and so on. Of course, our individual numbers vary due to several reasons, but at the end of the day, our team's repertoire of automotive experience is indeed vast. But let's be honest, some cars certainly stand out more than others. So as the year's about to turn, and as we're readying brand-new daily cat calendars for our cubicles, our editors are all taking time to reflect on the machinery that made this year so special, with one simple, open-ended question as the guide – a question that we're asked quite frequently, from friends, family, colleagues, and more. "What's the best car you drove this year?" Lamborghini Huracan When I review the list of everything I drove in 2014, picking an absolute favorite becomes almost impossible. I mean, how does one delineate between the joy offered by cars as different as the Alfa Romeo 4C, Volkswagen Golf R, Mercedes-AMG GT S and even the humble-yet-wonderful Chevy Colorado? Okay fine, I'll just pick the Lamborghini. I drove the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 on a racetrack, in the mountains, and along southern coast of Spain. It felt like the king of the car jungle in all of those places, sucking the eyeballs of observers nearly out of their heads as it drove by, and almost melting my brain with its cocktail of speed and grip and intense communication. It feels a little easy to say that the one new supercar I drove this year was also my favorite, but the fact is that the Huracan is one of the finest cars I've driven during my career, let alone 2014. Judge me if you must. – Seyth Miersma Senior Editor Rolls-Royce Wraith There are a couple of ways to look at the question, "What's the best car you drove this year?" In terms of what was so good I'd go out and buy one tomorrow, that'd be my all-time sweetheart, the Volkswagen GTI. Or if I'm just talking about sheer cool-factor, maybe something like the Galpin GTR1, BMW i8, or Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. But instead, I'm going to write about the sheer opulence of being the best of the best. The hand-crafted, holier-than-thou, shut-your-mouth-when-I'm-talking-to-you supremacy. I'm picking the Rolls-Royce Wraith. I drove the Wraith for a week in April, and was really, really impressed. This car does everything, perfectly.

Hellcat no help to Fiat-Chrysler's bottom-of-the-pile mpg average

Wed, Oct 15 2014

What, you expected the "fastest muscle car ever" to help fleetwide fuel economy? Nope, don't think that's going to happen. That means Fiat Chrysler will likely to continue to languish at the bottom of the heap when it comes to fleetwide fuel economy among the largest automakers serving the US, especially as the automaker starts to sell its Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. A few hundred Fiat 500E electric vehicles aren't going to turn the trend around. See, Chrysler has once again finished at the bottom of the list when it came to fleetwide fuel economy among automakers for 2014 model-year vehicles, according to a preliminary study by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Chrysler and Fiat had an average of 21.1 miles per gallon. That substantially lagged the overall 24.2 mpg average, but it was an increase from the company's 20.9 mpg average last year and the 20.1 mpg average two years prior. For 2014, General Motors had the second-worst fleetwide fuel economy at an even 22 mpg. Fiat Chrysler does say it's working on improving its fuel economy, according to Automotive News. The company plans on making its inline-four-cylinder and V6 engines smaller, and will sell more vehicles with eight- and nine-speed transmissions. Heck, there's even a plug-in hybrid version of the Chrysler Town & Country minivan in the works for late 2015, and the company can tout fuel-efficiency gains with the Chrysler 200 and Jeep Cherokee. We would be remiss if we didn't note that, compared to its muscle-car forefathers, the Hellcat actually performs pretty well at the pump. Last month, word got out that the 2015 Challenger Hellcat, equipped either with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, got a combined fuel economy of 16 mpg. Heck, the automatic-tranny version got 22 mpg on the highway. And that's for a car with 707 horsepower and a 10-second quarter-mile time. Still, with the pedal floored, the car can burn a gallon and a half of fuel per minute. Ouch.

MotorWeek revisits the awesome, original Dodge Viper

Sat, Jun 6 2015

MotorWeek is bringing the automotive world a wonderful blast from the past with its latest Retro Review. Not only does the video feature the now-famous, original Dodge Viper, but this is also a chance to watch one lapping Pocono International Raceway in a test of track prowess. This segment was MotorWeek's first chance to unleash the Viper around a racecourse, and the show took advantage of the opportunity. In addition to the usual 0-60 mph and quarter-mile tests, the 400-horsepower V10 is let loose to do lap after lap. The clip offers a great dose of nostalgia and is worth a watch to remember the intense enthusiasm surrounding the Viper at the time.
