Free Delivery! Murdered Out Textured Paint, 3rd Seat, Rear A/c, Fully Serviced! on 2040-cars
Washington, District Of Columbia, United States
This auction is for a 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4X4 finished in a badass looking black textured “spray-on bedliner” paint job (details of which are mentioned later in the description) with the Beige premium cloth interior. It’s powered by a 235 horsepower and 295 lb. ft. of torque 4.7 liter Magnum V8 engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output and inherent smoothness. First introduced in 1999, it’s a completely new and totally modern engine design for Chrysler. It features a cast iron block for excellent durability, aluminum cylinder heads with magnesium valve covers for reduced weight and excellent heat dissipation, overhead cams with hydraulic valve lash adjusters and steel timing chains for reduced maintenance, multi-point fuel injection for maximum power output along with a composite intake manifold for light weight and a cooler intake charge, and coil-on-plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions.
This 4.7L engine is more than capable of performing any job you can give it, from carrying cargo with over a half ton of payload capacity to towing a heavy trailer weighing over two tons. It’s not as powerful as the optional 5.9L engine, (although it only gives up 10 horsepower), but because it’s got all the latest engine design technology you can get much better fuel economy with over 20 mpg highway driving when driven moderately, compared to the 5.9L which will barely reach 15 mpg. And it runs great on regular grade gas. The engine is mated to Chrysler’s 45RFE automatic transmission with overdrive. Also introduced as a new design in 1999, this transmission has three planetary gearsets rather than the two normally used in a 4-speed automatic and has a dual internal filter system all making for a heavy duty and reliable unit. It has a low first gear that provides brisk acceleration when starting off, while the high overdrive top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and good fuel economy. In fact, at 60 mph the engine is only turning at 1,700 rpm. Finishing off the Durango’s powertrain is a part time four wheel drive system with a New Venture NV 233 electric shift two-speed transfer case. This 4X4 system has four driving modes. 2WD is designed for all normal driving conditions where low traction isn’t an issue. 4 High is for driving in snow, mud, sand or off paved roads and can be engaged on the fly at any legal speeds. 4 Low is for situations that require extra pulling power at low speeds such as when crawling over rocks or pulling a boat up a steep boat ramp. Neutral is for disconnecting the axles from the powertrain and is used most often when the vehicle is towed behind an RV with all four wheels on the ground. Shifting between modes is with a dash-mounted switch instead of a balky lever as found in some other trucks, and there are no hubs you have to lock or unlock. This Durango SLT is fully equipped with all the desirable safety, comfort and convenience features and equipment including:

The interior is in fair to good condition. The front seats, carpet and dash are nice except for a dime size nick in the right side of the dash and the cloth on the drivers door has some smokers singe marks. The truck does not have any smoker’s smell that I can notice and I’m not a smoker. The previous owner must have had young kids as there is some residue from spilled soft drinks and juice cups in the rear carpet and a few spots on the seats. A weekend of intense cleaning should get it looking great. The engine compartment has been fully detailed and is very clean. Mechanically it runs and drives great. The engine and transmission pulls strong and yet feels smooth while idling, accelerating and throughout the cruising range. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The four wheel drive works great and went through 14 inches of snow this past winter like it was nothing. The A/C blows ice cold front and rear. It has a pair of Dunlop tires on the front with very good tread and a pair of Firestones on the rear. One is fair to good and the other will need to be replaced soon. The only issues to note are a timing chain slap for 3 or 4 seconds after a cold start which is common on the 4.7 engine and which most owners just live with, and the rear brakes squeal sometimes as you are coming to a gentle stop. They have new brake shoes and probably need to wear in a thousand miles. The truck has been fully checked out and serviced with over $1,800 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original Mopar or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. Some of the items checked or serviced include:
Photos of some of the parts replaced and service done:

In addition to the above service, all the accessories and electrical systems have been checked. All the power windows go up and down properly from the drivers master switch and all the individual switches. All the power door locks including the rear hatch lock and unlock properly from all the switches and the remote. The stereo works. The cruise control works. The power mirrors work. The headlights work on high and low beam. The fog lights and all the other exterior lights work. All the interior dome and courtesy lights work except the vanity mirror light. The speedometer and all the gauges work If you are serious about buying a nice first generation Durango 4X4 in general, and a well equipped SLT model with third row seating and dual A/C, this is about as low as they go in this nice condition. Sure, there are plenty of these Durango’s out there for $1,500 or $2,000, but if you have to spend another $3,000 soon after getting it home, it’s no bargain. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices to the other Durango’s listed, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on soon after getting it home. With this truck you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend $250 on a tune-up and filters service, you won’t have to spend $250 on a coolant service and hoses, you wont have to spend $120 on a battery. With many of the other listings on Ebay, you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery. The cost new of this well equipped Durango SLT was over $33,000 back in 2001 so with tax, title and tags the original owner wrote a check for well over $35,000. CLICK HERE to see the price new. The Kelley Blue Book value for the truck is from $3,500 to $4,100 with an average of $3,800. CLICK HERE to see the Blue Book. I have the Buy It Now Price at over $500 below that. This is a two owner truck from southern Virginia since 2006 which is probably why the body is so clean and rust-free. CLICK HERE to see the title. The truck also has a clean Carfax. CLICK HERE to see the Carfax report. It comes with all the books:
Two factory Ram head keys, an emergency wallet key and two factory remotes:
Make sure the other Durango’s you may be looking at also have both remotes, as it will cost around $150 for a new one from the dealer with programming. And a front license plate bracket if you need it:
While most dealers just buy a vehicle to flip in a week or two, I bought this Durango at a dealer auction nearly two years ago after the end of 4X4 season because of the badass paint job. I put it in storage as I had no use for it then, but put it back on the road this January to use as one of my personal drivers during the numerous snowfalls of the winter, which is why I serviced it top to bottom. And I’m also passing on the savings in this Ebay auction. If instead of selling it back at a dealer auction I can sell it here on Ebay for a similar price and avoid dealer auction fees and transportation expenses, and the new owner gets the car at a true wholesale price, then both buyer and seller make out ahead. If you are looking for a Dodge Durango in good condition at a good price, then this truck is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at $100 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk losing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money, you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him. Especially those auctions that are private listings where it says “User ID kept private.” Also, because my reserve is close to the Buy It Now price, don’t think that you will get a much better deal if you just keep bidding it up instead of using B.I.N., especially if you need it delivered. TERMS OF THE AUCTION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Since this truck may be advertised locally, auction can be canceled at any time (unless auction ended early with BUY IT NOW) due to prior sale without liability to any bidder. A down payment of $500 (plus any additional delivery charge) is required within 3 days of the close of the auction, balance due in cash on delivery or certified funds on delivery if I deliver it or you pick it up, or before it’s dropped off at the transporter if a shipping company is transporting it, but no later than 7 days after the close of the auction without prior agreement. I accept bank or certified checks, money orders, credit cards through PayPal (accepted for down payment only). If paying balance with funds other than cash, buyer to fax copy of monetary instrument no less than 24 hours before picking up vehicle. The truck is sold as is. Buyer is welcome to inspect truck BEFORE the end of the auction or to have someone check it out on your behalf provided you authorize whoever is checking the truck to provide me with a copy of the results. I have tried to accurately describe this truck, both mechanically and cosmetically but you can expect a certain amount of minor flaws on ANY used truck including squeaks, rattles, drips, nicks, chips, scratches, blemishes and any other marks that are consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. There is no possible way to include all minute details and imperfections, however, I believe my listing accurately depicts this vehicle and if there are any issues they are noted in the description. Also remember that a vehicle is made up of thousands of mechanical parts and components and in an older or higher mileage used vehicle a part that is working fine now may go bad the next day, in a week, or a month from now. It’s nearly impossible to tell when a particular part or component will fail as most don’t exhibit prior symptoms, however, proper preventative maintenance as this truck has received, can prevent most problems or breakdowns from happening. In fairness to all bidders the reserve price will not be disclosed so please don’t even ask. Buyer responsible for transportation and truck must be paid for in full before it can be released. May deliver. Email or call for delivery quote or for any other questions. atikovi@email.com Maryland and District of Columbia dealer. Phone 202-246-5201. Please do not bid if you don’t intend to buy. FREE DELIVERY TERMS: Free delivery within 500 miles of the Washington DC area if bidder purchases vehicle with Buy It Now. (35 cents per mile for additional miles as shown in MapQuest.com from zip code 20001 to your address.) That is still the same rate as when I started on Ebay 14 years ago even with more than double the gas prices. Remember, the Buy It Now option disappears once the reserve price is met. The Buy It Now price is $3,295. AUCTION ENDS: 10:00pm sharp, EASTERN TIME Thursday April 17th unless Buy It Now is used. |

Junkyard Gem: 1977 Dodge Colt Mileage Maker Coupe
Sat, Dec 11 2021While Ford and GM each had the resources to develop their own Michigan-designed subcompacts for the dawn of the 1970s— the Pinto and Vega, respectively— Chrysler couldn't afford the huge price tag for such a project. Instead, Chrysler's European operations were tapped for a couple of models that sold well enough on the other side of the Atlantic, giving us the Plymouth Cricket (known as the Hillman Avenger in the UK) and the Simca 1204 (aka the Simca 1100 in France). American car shoppers gave those two models the cold shoulder, but then Chrysler found genuine sales success by making a deal with Mitsubishi to sell the Colt Galant with left-hand drive. This became the Dodge Colt, with sales beginning in the 1971 model year. Though the 1971-1978 rear-wheel-drive Colts were once as commonplace as Corollas or B210s on American roads, they have all but disappeared today. That makes today's Junkyard Find, discovered in a Denver-area yard last week, particularly interesting. This car shows signs of having been in the hands of a speed-crazed enthusiast owner, including an aftermarket steering wheel and one-piece racing seats with slots for five-point harnesses. The primer-gray paint is another clue. The rear-wheel-drive Colts were reasonably quick for their time, and they could be made genuinely quick with basic engine upgrades. This Mitsubishi Saturn four-banger has a tube header, hot-rod ignition system, and a two-barrel (Mikuni-made) Solex carburetor. We can assume there's probably some kind of cam upgrade under the valve cover, too. The shifter is gone, but the original transmission in this car was either the base four-speed or optional five-speed manual. A three-speed automatic was available for $270 (about $1,275 today). Later on, front-wheel-drive Colts (and Mitsubishi Mirages) could be bought with the Twin-Stick overdrive rig, which gave drivers eight forward speeds and the opportunity to make Twin-Stick beer taps. The 1977-1978 Dodge Colt two- and four-door sedans were based on the Mitsubishi Lancer and were a bit smaller than the 1971-1977 cars, while the wagon version moved to the Galant Sigma platform. The build tag shows that this car started life as the cheapest 1977 Colt model, the "Mileage Maker" two-door sedan (Dodge dealers called it a coupe, so that's what I'm calling it in the title).
2020 Dodge Journey loses trims and colors, adds equipment
Sun, Sep 8 2019Update: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that all-wheel-drive was available on the Journey. It has been discontinued for the 2020 model year. The text has been changed to reflect this. The 2020 Dodge Journey sticks with the formula that's served it for its entire 11-year lifespan so far, which is to say nothing more than incremental changes will usher in the new year. The lineup shrinks by half, the SE and GT trims going away, leaving the SE Value and Crossroad trims. The end of the Journey GT means the end of the 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 for the Journey, the two remaining models powered by the 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 172 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque shifting through a four-speed automatic. The SE Value sits on 17-inch steelies with wheel covers, the Crossroad rides on 19-inchers, and both models turn the front wheels only; the option of all-wheel drive has left the building. Both trims add new standard equipment, Rear Park Assist included on both, the Crossroad acquiring a sunroof. The color wheel for exterior hues loses two options, Destroyer Grey and Verde Oliva, leaving seven choices. The SE Value interior retains its choice of black or tan cloth, the Crossroads sticks with black only. SE Value and Crossroad will offer an option called the Popular Entertainment Group that installs different equipment depending on trim. For the SE Value, that will add a power driver seat, premium cloth seating, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, tri-zone temperature control, Uconnect Voice Command with Bluetooth, a 12-month subscription to SiriusXM Radio, interior observation mirror, and security alarm. On the Crossroad, the same package means navigation, heated front seats and steering wheel, six premium speakers and subwoofer, remote start, a universal garage door opener. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but with the 11-year-old Journey selling itself as a value proposition — it's right there in the name — we don't expect much change from the $24,740 price of the 2019 SE Value.
